WIW: Editors, new tank & leather

Good morning everyone!

Today is the debut of two new items - the Express Editor trousers (back from hemming) I bought off of eBay and a jersey abstract print tank.

I can see why so many of Angie's clients love these Editor trousers - the fabric is substantial, the fit and rise perfect and the drape lovely. Many shorter women would probably find the legs too wide but I don't mind that at all. I like the way they move when I move and I find a wider leg trouser can help to balance out my wider hips.

I added an abstract print drapey tank that I found on the weekend at Laura Petites that has black, cream, yellow, and taupe in it. Love the colours and it will work with many of my bottoms. It also has substantially wide shoulder straps so won't have any issues wearing it without a topper when the summer heat arrives.

On top of that I added my light cream (not quite white) leather jacket and for footwear, my three-tone patent leather oxfords which have the same colours in them as in the tank. For my handbag, I'm using my yellow leather clutch.

I feel classic and modern in this outfit and am pleased with how it all works together.  I can tell all three of these pieces will be workhorses for me. What do you think of this outfit and its components? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: New Striped Dress

I bought this dress a few weeks ago at Cleo Petite and have been waiting for real spring to arrive in order to wear it. All the snow has finally melted from my yard and we hit +15 Celcius yesterday, so I guess it's time to wear it!

This dress is a jersey knit black, cobalt and white stripe dress with an elastic waist, giving the dress a blouson effect. It is sleeveless but has wide enough shoulder straps to wear on its own comfortably. It has pleats at the rounded neckline and I really like the midi length. I've paired it with a knit black blazer with 3/4 length sleeves, also picked up at Cleo Petite a few weeks ago. I like to have a black blazer in my wardrobe at all times but needed a light weight knit for the warmer months.

I removed the stretchy belt that came with the dress and have instead popped on my black leather belt with silver buckle. Nude hose and my black pointy toe kitten heel pumps round out the outfit. I've added pops of white with my watch and handbag.

What do you think? Were the dress and jacket good spring/summer picks? I can see this dress also working with my white leather jacket, white denim jacket, blue denim jacket and various belts and shoes/sandals. As always, all comment/suggestions welcome.

Column of Grey & Pops of White

I have fallen completely in love with white - as tops, bottoms and accessories. Angie is (of course) completely right in how it can lighten up an outfit.

I've used white accessories today to lighten up an all grey outfit, another colour I love. I've taken my grey sized up skinnies and paired them with my grey Gap mesh sleeve sweater. Then I added my grey (with lime green soles) leather oxfords. Now for the pops of white - a wide leather belt, white watch and my light cream handbag.

I originally had on my python booties but I've been waiting for it to be dry enough to break out these pretty little oxfords and today was the day.

What do you think? does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: Navy, green & white leather

I got my Danier Leather white jacket back from alterations yesterday and couldn't wait to wear it. Now I will confess that when I tried it on in the store, I felt the sleeves were still too long and said so to the SA. She explained to me, however, that they always hem the sleeves a tiny bit on the long side because as the jacket breaks in and you get creases in the leather on the bend of your arm (inside of the elbow), these creases pull the sleeve up. If they shortened them to the exact length, you would end up with sleeves a good 1/2 - 1 inch too short. I'm trusting they know what they're talking about.

Anyway, I still absolutely love the jacket and wanted to pair it with something that would really make it pop. Plus it's chilly this morning so no dress or skirt today. I'm wearing my simple navy work trousers and added my green voluminous tee with the tucking detail at the neckline. Over that is the white leather jacket and on my feet, the python booties to bring a bit more white to the outfit. My handbag is my Kelly green one which although doesn't photograph that way, is the exact same colour as my top.

And when I head out the door, on top of everything will be my navy trench and navy/white polka dot scarf.

What do you think? does it work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: Nostalgic Tee Formula

When Angie wrote about the nostalgic tee & pencil skirt formula in her blog, I could hardly wait to try it out. I promptly went thrifting on the weekend to find my nostalgic tee. I found this sweet Minnie Mouse tee at my local thrift shop and it was perfect.

I've paired the tee (which has a hi-lo hemline) with my new black pencil skirt (one size down may I point out!), nude hose and my Doc Marcie boots. On top, I've added my black tux blazer with leather collar and pocket trim. I originally had on my black leather blazer but found that made the look a little too "tough" for work. As it is, the tee is pushing the boundaries of work wear, although my office is not super corporate style. I think this blazer dresses it up a bit.

For my handbag, I've added my citron clutch and of course, there's a swipe of red lipstick.

I love this outfit - it will be interesting to see the reactions at work. What do you think? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: Optic White & Lemon Yellow

Today's outfit is inspired by Angie and Sveta - Sveta wore this yellow blazer with white last week and it looked so fresh and cheery; Angie wears white jeans year round and has convinced me that they are a wardrobe staple.

I've popped on my Gap yellow academy blazer over top of a simple white tee, semi tucked into my sized up white skinny jeans. I'm wearing my python booties for footwear and carrying my white leather clutch. I have yet another pop of white with my white watch.

What do you think? This is very much out of my comfort zone. As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Olive & Black for Suz & Anna

This outfit is a true YLF outfit - Anna found me this perfect black sheath dress and Suz sent me the perfect olive shoes.

This outfit started with the sheath dress, one of my best purchases of 2012. Its versatility is amazing. Then I decided to pair it with these incredible two-tone criss-cross strap Fluevog pumps that Suz sent me. Love the colour, style and comfort. As a topper, I've added this newly thrifted military inspired peplum style cotton jacket. I picked this up yesterday and thought it would be perfect for spring/summer due to its light weight and the colour will go with so many things. I like the detailing and style of it as well. I'm almost embarrassed to tell you that the brand is Miley Cyrus. Yep - you just never know, do you?

My handbag is the Elliott Lucca snakeskin satchel which has olive tones in it that go beautifully with the jacket and shoes. Jewelry is a white and green cuff made by a local artisan. And of course, I've added a swipe of red lipstick.

I feel fabulous in this outfit - not just because I think it's stylish and flattering. But because it illustrates the good will of YLF.

What do you think? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: Vintage & Denim

It's Denim Day at work today (a.k.a. casual Friday) so out came my Kut from the Kloth bootcut jeans. I like the medium wash of these jeans - kind of gives them an old feel. I decided to pair them with my favourite vintage item - this red and white polka dot silk peplum style jacket from the mid 60's. I love how I feel girly in this jacket no matter what I pair it with. Today I'm wearing it closed like a blouse but I also like it open over a white tee or black sheath dress.  Hmmm.....that reminds me.....need to go back to that vintage shop...

I've added my red booties for footwear and some bookending and my white handbag.

What do you think? does it work? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: Grey, white & a pop of citron

I love seeing the WIW posts with the pops of white lately so today I wanted to copy that idea. I started my outfit with my slouchy black and tweed trousers. I added my white leather belt for my first bit of white. Then I added my grey mesh sleeve sweater with a semi tuck to show the belt. For footwear, I'm wearing my python booties which have bits of white in them. I then added my white watch for another bit of white. And finally, my purse today consists of a pretty little citron leather clutch from Gap. Such a cheery colour to add!

What do you think? Does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Black & Blue with kitten heels

I'm not crazy with how this photographed but I like how it looks in the mirror, so that's what I'm going with!

I started today's outfit with my cobalt blue slim leg jeans. I like a less body con top with slim jeans so added my drapey, asymmetrical tie black top. I love the way this top feels on - so soft and light. I'm also really liking the look these days of dainty pointy-toe kitten heel pumps with jeans so popped on my black pumps. For my handbag I've chosen my yellow & cobalt clutch and jewelry is a silver ring and gunmetal cuff.

What do you think? Does this work together? How are the proportions? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.
