Olive & Black for Suz & Anna

This outfit is a true YLF outfit - Anna found me this perfect black sheath dress and Suz sent me the perfect olive shoes.

This outfit started with the sheath dress, one of my best purchases of 2012. Its versatility is amazing. Then I decided to pair it with these incredible two-tone criss-cross strap Fluevog pumps that Suz sent me. Love the colour, style and comfort. As a topper, I've added this newly thrifted military inspired peplum style cotton jacket. I picked this up yesterday and thought it would be perfect for spring/summer due to its light weight and the colour will go with so many things. I like the detailing and style of it as well. I'm almost embarrassed to tell you that the brand is Miley Cyrus. Yep - you just never know, do you?

My handbag is the Elliott Lucca snakeskin satchel which has olive tones in it that go beautifully with the jacket and shoes. Jewelry is a white and green cuff made by a local artisan. And of course, I've added a swipe of red lipstick.

I feel fabulous in this outfit - not just because I think it's stylish and flattering. But because it illustrates the good will of YLF.

What do you think? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: Miley Cyrus (thrifted)
Dress: Banana Republic
Nude hose: Hue

You look positively splendid and this is a fantastic example of nude hose adding to a look. Amazing thrift find and even more amazing little help from your friends with this outfit!

Miley never looked this good! Shannon, I love your subtle touches...the double breasted topper worn open and asymmetrical, the green tones in your bag, artistic cuff.

Good morning. You said you feel fabulous, well you look fabulous. I've been looking for a military inspired jacket and have yet to find one that I like. One never knows when that perfect item will show up :) Good for you.

You look terrific!  I love the fun shoes with the military inspired topper. YLF!!
  • Suz replied 11 years ago
I knew those shoes would be happier at your place!! Just look at that. Love them with this jacket. And the black and military tones down any hint of sweetness. You know exactly how to wear them best.

I am taking lessons here, because you know how to put outfits together like nobody's business. Love your new, fun, topper. This is what thrifting is for...those little items that you may only wear for a season but which give such pleasure and help to make an outfit!

Love the way your bag works with the shoes, too.

Great outfit, Shannon! I love the black and olive together, and the bag and shoes are perfect accents. How wonderful of Suz to send those fabulous shoes your way!

The new military jacket is amazing on you, Shannon. I love how it adds a trendy element to the classic dress. Gorgeous! Shoes are perfection too :)

YLF sisterhood is the best, it makes any outfit extra special.
I like the Miley jacket on you because you made it so grown up. And I love the black and olive combo on you.
I would have so much fun working on the same office with you, I would always be looking forward too your outfits. Mondays would have a new appeal :)

    KILLER

A pretty and modern Sergeant Pepper :)

Shevia - I'm so glad that nude hose are considered fashionable. It is still much too cold to go bare legged here but tights are just too heavy for spring.

Suz - I fall more and more in love with these shoes with each step I take :) And yes, I think this jacket is exactly what thrifting is about. I have certainly cut way back on my thrifting and am much more discriminating about what I purchase, but it will truly never leave me as a means to trying out a trend.

Joy & Celia - I will admit I had concerns that the Miley jacket would come across as much too young for me. But DS assured me it was ok and then he said "well it's not like you're wearing it with a cropped tee shirt and low rise jeans Mom" - lol!

    Angie -  :)

Thanks Ceit, Ruthe, Thistle, Parsley, Sara, Kelly, and Sarah!

I especially love those shoes on you, because the straps are more or less nude.  Gives you a long leg line.

What a great combination! I love the way it all came together. :-)

Love the military styling paired with the snakeskin bag. LOVELY!  The bag lightens up the olive and black which can get a little heavy for spring. I adore the shoes the gray and olive is such a nice pairing!

I would copy this whole look in a heartbeat - fantastic, Shannon!  I want a military jacket cut like that... hard to find. :)

Such acts of kindness warm my heart! You look extra fab Shannon!

Una - I had kind of been looking for either a military inspired jacket or a camo jacket but everything I tried on was just too boxy and shapeless for me. When I saw this one I said to myself "you can't try this on. It's Miley Cyrus for goodness sake" but I tried it anyway and loved the shape. Plus it's got this tiered peplum at the back that is quite figure flattering. Just pure luck finding it.

Thanks everyone for your lovely words :)

    Looks great!

I love it! I think it's great how it all came together. I really like the combination of the retro pumps with the military jacket, with that fabulous LBD as a basis.
  • Ornella replied 11 years ago
Well, as much as I love booties on you, I adore seeing your legs - these shoes are making them look extra beautiful.

The whole outfit is drop dead gorgeous.

I love it Shannon! I can't wear olive near my face, but love it on people who can. It is such a great neutral. The way you've lots of neutrals with a huge amount of texture and pattern to make this super interesting is fabulous. And of course the pop of color with the red lipstick. *swoon*  You look gorgeous!
  • unfrumped replied 11 years ago
Love this look and am taking notes! I am always looking for ways to pair black with olive that look intentional. Olive is better near my face, but black is still a big go-to for basic pants and such. Great outfit.

You look adorable and so chic today, Shannon. I love the shoes and bag - as always, it seems!

So great and even more fantastic that your YLF sisters helped bring it about. Love your hair!

Just getting time for forum business!

The whole outfit is a real winner, but I adore the shoes and bag together.  So rich and detailed without being TMGO.

    Were the shoes comfy?
  • Ariadne replied 11 years ago
I think this is my personal Shannon favourite!  Love the jacket - what an amazing find.

Wow--you look truly fab! Love the olive and black on you. Coincidentally, I just wore olive and black last Friday, and wish I had taken a photo. I am surprised at how much I love this color combo. Maybe my coloring is similar to yours. . . I should take more notes on the colors you use in your beautiful outfits!
