WIW: Nostalgic Tee Formula

When Angie wrote about the nostalgic tee & pencil skirt formula in her blog, I could hardly wait to try it out. I promptly went thrifting on the weekend to find my nostalgic tee. I found this sweet Minnie Mouse tee at my local thrift shop and it was perfect.

I've paired the tee (which has a hi-lo hemline) with my new black pencil skirt (one size down may I point out!), nude hose and my Doc Marcie boots. On top, I've added my black tux blazer with leather collar and pocket trim. I originally had on my black leather blazer but found that made the look a little too "tough" for work. As it is, the tee is pushing the boundaries of work wear, although my office is not super corporate style. I think this blazer dresses it up a bit.

For my handbag, I've added my citron clutch and of course, there's a swipe of red lipstick.

I love this outfit - it will be interesting to see the reactions at work. What do you think? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Blazer: Nygard (thrifted)
Tee: thrifted
Skirt: Cleo
Hose: Hue
Boots: Doc Martens
Clutch: Gap

Very cute! I would be interested in hearing the reactions from work.

Oh, Minnie is so cute, and so are you! I think this really works very well. My only concern is the hem of the t-shirt. I like it a lot without the jacket, but maybe I would have tried to tuck it more in when the jacket is on? I don't know, just a thought. The booties and bag are super fab with this.

You are having a stellar week so far!  Luv the olive and black on Monday.  Tuesday's sunny yellow and white was delish.  Today's Minnie-goes-to-work look is sassy chic.

I LOVE this, the details are so good. I particularly love how the grey of the tee shirt further tones down the nostalgic print by creating a column of colour and yet the clutch enlivens and picks out the colours in the print

Also a huge congratulations on the weight loss!

You are a thrifting goddess! Just walked in and found a perfect tee :-).

I love this - nostalgic tee outfits have a high happiness factor for me!

    *clapping hands*

So glad you like this - I must say that my happiness factor is sky high in this outfit. I did have one brief moment when I wondered if this was age appropriate (goodness, I hate that expression) but decided it was - everything  is covered, I'm not exposing too much skin and I grew up with Minnie (who is quite the fashionista IMO). Age appropriate but sassy I say!

Ingunn - I had the same concern about the back hem of the tee and did try tucking it but it just made the back of the skirt way too bulky. No need to add lumps to my backside - lol!

I can't remember when I've had so much fun with my style and trying new trends and looks - thank you Angie for keeping us on our toes :)

I love the graphic tee and blazer look and this is a great interpretation.  I love your Minnie Mouse tee!  I always think I should look for tees at the thrift store but the t-shirt racks make me feel overwhelmed - so many worn out and shapeless knits.

Shannon this outfit is too much fun:). It's a touch quirky with the tee and I like it. The contrast between what looks like a suit, the tee and the boots is brilliant. No wonder you felt great. And I like the idea of the lower back hem peeking out below the jacket.

Happy hunting Zap! I think I squealed when I saw this tee. I also bought a fabulous faded red/almost pinkish Boba Fett tee...HUGE Star Wars fan!
  • Angie replied 11 years ago
    KILLER!!

And with flying colours :). Your Minnie grew up splendidly in this ensemble. Well done!
  • rae replied 11 years ago
Too perfect - Minnie kind of dresses in your style on that tee, don't you think? Dotty print, vintage influences, kitten heels... :D
  • rae replied 11 years ago
Wait, I just saw about the Fett tee! High five!
  • ElleH replied 11 years ago

Wow!  Once more you show us how it's done, Shannon!  YLF!
  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago
Rae - lol! Yes, I do kind of have similar style taste to Minnie, don't I? And high five back at ya for the Boba Fett tee (you too Ceit).

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments.

And the reaction at work??? Strangely quiet. Not a single word was said either in favour of or against my outfit. I'm guessing that means my co-workers didn't know what to make of it :)

This is so cute and SO Shannon.  I love this fun look on you!

Love the way Minnie peeks out of the swanky jacket lapels!

So much "having fun with fashion" here!  The pop of yellow is a modern, sophisticated touch.  And the skirt --- a great feeling, isn't it?
