WIW: Tube & Bomber

I decided that even though it is Denim Day at work, it is just too darned hot to wear jeans of any sort.

So today's outfit started with my striped version of the VC tube skirt. I do prefer the wider black/white stripe version seen on YLF but this is what was available to me here so I'm making lemonade...

I've paired the tube skirt with a bright Kelly green flowy tee and my cream/black quilted flats. I've popped my white and black bomber over top for the Arctic A/C in my office but will take the jacket off when I step outside into the heat and humidity. I chose my Kelly green handbag and a simple black/white watch for accessories. It always amazes me how this tee and handbag photograph a different colour of green and yet IRL they are EXACTLY the same.

So what do you think? does the tube skirt and bomber work together? How do you like the green with it? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Pulling up the rear on the Spiegel lemming trail

Sweet Amy (Amiable) snagged a Spiegel jacket for me and sent it my way and here it is, along with the new INC Bailey 44-esque dress I got today at The Bay.

LOVE the dress - my favourite colour combo right now with blue, white and cobalt. it is a petite and a bit shorter than I might normally wear but actually, I'm liking the variety it provides compared with the VC tube skirts and some of my midi length dresses. In reviewing my closet, I have a very definite colour palette going for fall and winter in blues, black, white and grey.

And here is the now YLF famed Spiegel drapey leather jacket.  The shoulder fit is positively perfect. I do need to shorten the sleeves (they are turned in here about 2.5 inches). It is pulling a bit when done up but not a deal breaker for me. I would be primarily wearing it open anyway and I know a size up would be too big in the shoulders. Besides I figure another 5 pounds and an inch or two on the midsection and it should be fine. I've over exposed the leather jacket pics so you can see the details a bit better.

So unless you see something glaringly hideous about either of these, I'm keeping both. Would you agree?

BTW I can see the dress with my white blazer, white leather jacket, black leather blazer, denim jacket, fur vest, black vest...

WIW: Floral with white

I bought this floral tee at the beginning of the summer and although I've only worn it once or twice to work, it has been a weekend workhorse as I love to pair it with my white, red or denim Bermuda shorts.

Today I've paired the tee with my slimmer fitting white jeans (rolled) and my bone/silver sandals. I'm using my cobalt/cream quilted handbag again (love this bag!) and jewelry is my white watch and silver wedding band.

It's a simple outfit but I feel good in it. What do you think? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Notice that Dusty Bottom snuck into the last pic - he goes so well with today's colour scheme, don't you think?

K/R A tale of three blouses (pic heavy)

I have three blouses up for review for keep or return. I have styled all three with the same bottoms - my new VC floral tube skirt, my new NYDJ Megan black jeggings with leather trim and my TR Cameron BF's. I figure this represents the shape and color of bottoms that I own.

Pics #1 - 7: Jeanne Beker cobalt blouse with black trim and hi-low trim
Pics #8 - 14: Zara light cream silk blouse
Pics #15 - 21: Zara navy/white tux style silk blouse

I have my own feelings about the blouses but will keep them to myself for a bit so as not to sway opinions. I have the budget to keep all three if that is the consensus.

Gotta get off the computer now - hubby needs. Will be popping in on the iPhone.

So...whatcha think?

WIW: Denim, animal & rose

My office allows denim pencil skirts as long as they are a darker wash and of a dressier nature, unlike jeans which are only allowed on Fridays.

So today's outfit started with my dark denim pencil skirt, to which I added a simple black tank topped with an animal print short sleeved light weight cardigan. For footwear I chose my nude peep toe laceless oxfords and then decided to go a little out of the box and use my cobalt/cream quilted handbag for a pop of an unexpected colour. And for jewelry, I'm debuting my new black/rose gold oversized Fossil watch. A swipe of red lipstick (a wee bit darker shade than my usual red) and off we go.

What do you think? Does this combination work? Was the cobalt bag the right choice or should I have gone with something more neutral? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: Silky Cobalt

Another scorching hot day today - in fact this entire week is over +30 Celcius with high humidity so that the temperature feels anywhere between +38 - +41 Celcius. Uggggghhh...

So what does a gal wear to work when it's that hot - silky shorts! Today I paired my thrifted black silky shorts with my black and cobalt silky tee. I added a black leather belt and a semi tuck. For shoes I chose my trusty black sandals and picked my cobalt/yellow clutch for my handbag. A gold watch and wedding band round out the outfit.

This outfit is very comfortable, nothing too restrictive and still appropriate for my business casual office. What do you think? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Bonus pics of the Fossil rose gold and black watch that came in the mail yesterday. I've posted a couple of times in the past 6 months about looking for a rose gold watch but I wanted something different. While hubby was searching on eBay for these particular photography umbrellas he is after, he spotted this one - it was brand new with the tags and at half the price of full retail. He said to buy and I did! I need to have a link removed so am not wearing it today but wanted to show it to you. I think it's ironic that this watch has a black face which Angie just posted about yesterday in her second blog post with 6 fab finds.

WIW: Black & Olive

Even though it was very hot yesterday, the air had the slight scent of autumn and there are a few leaves falling off the trees already. So my outfit today is a wee nod to late summer in terms of the colour palette.

I started my outfit today with my trusty black sheath dress (I can't imagine EVER having a wardrobe without one) to which I added my military-inspired olive green cotton jacket. I love the asymmetrical style and brass details of this jacket. For footwear, I chose the two-tone olive Fluevog pumps so kindly gifted to me from Suz. They are a fabulous combination of adding colour through footwear while still working as a neutral. And for my handbag, I went with my snakeskin cream/olive/taupe satchel (from last year's NAS) and I'm wearing my gold mesh bangle and gold wedding band for jewelry.

I'm happy with how this all looks together - what do you think? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: Denim & Heels

Yay for Friday!!!

Today's outfit started with a pair of old jeans I found in my downstairs storage closet last night, tried on and found they fit again, and promptly hacked off and rolled for a slim fit BF/denim clam look. I added my navy and cream polka dot blouson top, which I semi tucked into my taupe studded belt to change up the look of the top a bit. Popped on my girly taupe pointy toe kitten heel pumps and added my white clutch. Jewelry is my gold wedding band and gold watch.  Happiness factor = extremely high.

What do you think? Does it work together? Does the blouse look ok semi tucked? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

K/R Zara silk blouse (and some other stuff)

A couple of days ago I posted about the need for a white or light cream drapey blouse (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....-requested). I am not a crisp button down kind of gal but instead am on the hunt for a drapey, soft, slightly voluminous blouse that I can wear over top of pencil skirts for debomshelling and also with work trousers and jeans untucked or semi tucked.

Inge had linked in that post to a beautiful 100% silk blouse from Zara and I ordered and received the blouse today. First the good things: the silk is DIVINE and beautiful against the skin, the blouse is exactly the type of style I'm looking for - very simple, elegant and soft. The sleeves are too long but that's not a big deal - Wonder Woman can shorten them. The negatives are the blouse is a little more sheer than I was wanting as I don't particularly like the extra layer of a camisole but for the right blouse, I may be willing to overlook that. And I'm wondering about the fit on the shoulders. I'm a petite with narrow shoulders and this blouse only comes in regular sizing. The shoulder seams are past my physical shoulders. What are your thoughts on fit and style? These are pitiful stylings but hopefully you can get the idea.

Hubs and I went for an early dinner right after work today and decided to treat ourselves to a few new goodies for our anniversary. Hubs (a.k.a. Mr. Casual) got a pair of fantastic pants and a few tees from Lululemon and I chose the ink blue blouse and ponte knit-leather tuxedo stripe pants from Jeanne Beker's petite line. I have lost a few more inches and didn't realize just how large the shirt was on me until I saw these pictures. I assume it's too big? should I size down or is the shirt just a no go for me anyway? The ponte knit pants (which do not photograph well unfortunately and are bunching a bit on the ankle due to the need for shortening) are a full size down for me - whoo hoo! The last two pics are the ponte pants, which if keeping will be part of the great Pants Hunt of 2013, paired with Dex multi-media sweater I purchased. It has a great hi-low hemline and is a camo type of silky fabric in the front with a knit sweater sleeves and back. I just love it.

Anyway...over to you for your thoughts and wisdom :) What stays and what goes?

WIW: White Makes Right

Angie suggested I pair my taupe pencil skirt, which had fallen out of favour, with white as that seems to be my favourite summer colour these days. Boy was she right!!!

Today's outfit started with my taupe pencil skirt and my taupe/white/pink silky tee. Gotta give myself a pat on the back because I couldn't fit this tee three months ago.

I added my bone/silver sandals and a pink vintage Bakelite bangle to pick up the bits of pink in the tee. Then I popped on my white blazer, scrunched the sleeves and BAM...loved the outfit AND the skirt. Thanks Angie :)  I'm using my large cream handbag and wearing a swipe of bright pink lipstick to round out the outfit.

I also have to give special thanks to Parsley who convinced me a white blazer could and would be a workhorse for me and to MaryK, who constantly inspires me with her white blazer outfits.

What do you think? Has this skirt been saved? How do the proportions of the longer blazer with the shorter skirt look to your eye? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.
