WIW: Vintage & Denim

It's Denim Day at work today (a.k.a. casual Friday) so out came my Kut from the Kloth bootcut jeans. I like the medium wash of these jeans - kind of gives them an old feel. I decided to pair them with my favourite vintage item - this red and white polka dot silk peplum style jacket from the mid 60's. I love how I feel girly in this jacket no matter what I pair it with. Today I'm wearing it closed like a blouse but I also like it open over a white tee or black sheath dress.  Hmmm.....that reminds me.....need to go back to that vintage shop...

I've added my red booties for footwear and some bookending and my white handbag.

What do you think? does it work? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: vintage
Jeans: Kut from the Kloth (thrifted)
Boots: Sam Edelman
Handbag: Danier Leather

Yep, another cas Friday winner. Great colour on you and it looks like you've matched your lipstick perfectly.
I cant remember peplum tops being "in" in the 60s. The 80s, yes but what the heck, it looks great whatever its vintage

I think the juxtaposition of the dressier blazer with the casualness of the jeans is great! Love the red booties too.

    One word: Fab!

I love the dressy top with the more casual jeans and the red of the boots with the (different) red of the jacket. The white bag ties it all together.

Lantana - I don't know if this jacket is actually called a peplum style - I just call it that because of the bit of flounce it has.

Laura - when our office adopted Denim Day about two years ago, I actually found it really hard at the beginning because I was not used to wearing jeans to work. It's becoming more comfortable now though.

Thank you Ceit, Ramya, Diane and Shevia!

Shannon you look so fantastic and flirty in this, I really love it. The color, those jeans!  And your smile. :-)  The jacket looks like it fits you like a glove and I can certainly see why it makes you feel girly.

You have been hitting home runs every day, Shannon. I'm so inspired by your style. The fit, color, pattern and accessorizing is all so perfect--all the time. You have your style down, lady! LOVE this.

Gorgeous top/jacket! The colors are so cheery and flattering. The jeans look like they fit perfectly and I love the wash on these too.

Shannon, I am excited to see this jacket again.  It's one of my favourites.  Looks amazing over the jeans.

You look so bright an fresh. It may not be spring outside, but you certainly make me feel like it is.  Fun and fab outfit!

Still lovin' that blazer for you! I bet it would be adorable with Suz's Vogs, too. Killer with the cream bag.
  • Suz replied 11 years ago
That red is such a happy colour for you. And so fresh and springlike. Yay!

Funny you mention the Vogs Rae - originally I had the polka dot blazer on with my largest size of my Gap Sexy BF's rolled up and the Fluevog shoes. LOVED the look but for some reason, chickened out and went with something a bit more conventional. What a coward, eh?

Glad y'all still like this jacket 'cause it isn't going anywhere :)

The red and white top, the red shoes, the white bag - so pretty! I would love to see the version you chickened out on, too :)

    Looks good.

Jacket is so gorgeous on you, perfect fit, and the bright color is one of your best.  The red shoes and white bag perfect the look.  This is a great example of how to dress up faded or distressed denim.

love the fit and whiskering detail on the jeans. do you have a link to them? did you size down?
  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago
Sona - I actually thrifted these jeans from Value Village so no link unfortunately. I don't even know if they are a current Kut from the Kloth jean or not. I like the whiskering too - I normally don't but I found this version to be more flattering. They are my usual size if that helps.

Karie - maybe I'll try the "braver" version another time :)

Denise - I can see swapping out the larger white handbag for my white leather clutch, adding a chunky ring and heading out on a casual date night.

    Thanks ladies.

Glorious mix of retro and casual!  I think the sheen is particularly fun.  So glad you're finding little bits of Spring in your closet!
