WIW: Thrift Week Day 4

Again, apologies for the poor photo quality. My camera appears to be dying a slow death and so used my phone today and the photos are too dark. Will make adjustments tomorrow but no more time this morning.

My outfit started with this thrifted H&M bubble hem wrap dress in shades of brown, charcoal and cream. It's sleeveless and fully lined with nice wide straps for fabulous bra coverage. It borders on a little short for my comfort zone in the front but because it's not body con in any way and the back hem is lower, I think it's fine. I can see this dressed up for date night or with casual sandals and denim vest for an afternoon of shopping.

I've topped the dress today with my white denim jacket which adds structure and then chose my nude peep toe sandal booties for footwear. I grabbed my citron bag for a pop of colour and then finished off the outfit with my red specs, red lip, ebony and stainless steel watch and silver ring.

Thoughts on this outfit all appreciated :)

WIW: Thrift Week Day 3

Grrrr….I hope I get this camera thing figured out…all my settings are correct but suddenly I'm getting in too much light and it's all grainy. Sorry 'bout that.

Today's thrift offering is this cobalt/black/white scarf. I've not been a big scarf wearer in the past but I find myself drawn to them these days and have picked up a couple. I'm working on figuring out different and interesting ways to tie them - I hope this style looks ok.

I've chosen to wear the scarf with my blue EF linen hi-lo short sleeve top (with black tank underneath for modesty) and my EF ankle length black pants. I'm working at our staff picnic today so need to be comfortable, cool but not exposed to sunburn, and wear washable items.

Speaking of comfort, I've chosen my black Naot cross strap shoes for my feet. I've got custom orthotics being made as my PF has become unbearable and apparently I've got tiny tears in the fascia in my left foot so proper alignment is a must. I can hardly wait until they arrive although I suspect it will mean some shoes will no longer work for me and I can see some shoe shopping on the horizon.

I finished off the outfit with my cobalt/cream/black handbag (to echo the colours in the scarf), red specs, red lip and chrome watch/silver wedding band.

Thoughts on this outfit? Does the scarf look "natural" on me or do I look like I'm trying too hard? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

The Pixie Reveal

Just got back from my hairstylist and wanted to show you the new "do". It's short, sleek and exactly what I was hoping for. Apologies for the lack of makeup and strange facial expressions :) . You can see I kept my cranberry piece in.

Just think how much I'll save in shampoo - lol!

WIW: Thrift Week Day 2

Hmmm….don't know what's with the exposure in these pics…waaaaaay too much light…

Anyway, today's outfit started with this thrifted 100% cotton blouse. I love the gold graphic pattern in crisp white, black and cobalt blue. The wide neckline has a black band anchoring it and the sleeves are semi-puffed. The length of the blouse is perfect for pairing with both pants and skirts and I can see a lot of wearings in its future. I like how the blouse is somewhat peasant in style and speaks to a bit of boho.

I've paired the blouse with my white rolled slim BF jeans and then added another thrifted element with these Hush Puppy white sandals with cord baby-wedge heels. Oh so comfy….and in pristine condition.

I've finished off the outfit with my cobalt/cream/black quilted handbag to play off the cobalt in the blouse, white watch, silver wedding band and black/white specs.

Thoughts on this outfit - good, bad and otherwise? As always, all comment/suggestions welcome.

WIW: Thrift Week Day 1

I decided that this week, I will wear a thrifted item every day. I suspect this will not be difficult as probably 50% of my wardrobe is thrifted with another 30% from eBay. But for this purpose, I will make sure an item from a local thrift store will be worn each day.

Today's offering is the waxed denim jacket I picked up at Value Village on Thursday evening. It's a brand called Chagall (never heard of it). It's a gunmetal grey colour with brush strokes of black, giving it a slightly distressed and beat up look. The fit is just spot on and the weight will be good across all seasons.

I paired the jacket with my black EF drape front dress and Doc Martens boots. Accessories include my black leather handbag, a gunmetal wrap cuff, silver wedding band and black/white specs.

The overall outfit is a little tough/grunge and a little moody - perfect for this cooler, dreary looking morning.

Thoughts on this outfit? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Dress: Eileen Fisher (eBay)
Boots: Doc Martens (eBay)
Cuff: thrifted

P.S. Haircut is scheduled for tomorrow evening and I can hardly wait. My hair drove me nuts all weekend!

WIW: Chambray HEWI

I've been on the lookout for the past two summers for a light weight chambray shirt dress to no avail. I've tried on dozens but there were always issues with fit or style. So imagine my surprise and delight when my perfect chambray shirt dress was spotted at the thrift store last night!

Today's outfit is all about chambray simplicity and started with the dress. I love the weight of the fabric - nice and light but not sheer in any way. I adore the tone of blue - a nice denim shade. I like the roll tab sleeves since the sleeves full length are ridiculously long on me and this allows me to wear the dress without alterations. Plus I like how the slightly bulky roll gives the dress weight - to ensure it doesn't look too "floaty" if that makes sense. The length is perfect - most I tried on were either way too long or way too short. I literally brought it home, washed it, tossed it in the dryer and voila!

I chose my nude peep toe sandal booties for a clean and long leg line and then echoed those nude/neutral tones in the my snakeskin handbag. Jewelry is a silver ring and a fiberglass cuff made by a local artisan. Red specs and red lip finish off the outfit.

So what do you think? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: Bright Yellow

You might have to put on your sunglasses before you look at these pics - lol!

I ordered this bright yellow EF linen mesh pullover from my eBay seller about a month ago and it arrived a couple of weeks ago on a bit of a dark day. Well when I opened the package and saw this pretty yellow fabric staring at me, I couldn't help but smile. I don't think you can be sad when wearing a cheery colour, do you?

Today's outfit started with my bright yellow pullover layered over top a white tank. I combined the top with a pair of white ankle pants which I recently thrifted and am thrilled with. I like my white slim leg jeans which I cuff but sometimes on a hot and humid day, the fabric is just a touch too heavy. These are a nice light weight cotton blend and will be more tolerable in the heat.

For footwear I went with my bone/silver sandal shoes and for a handbag, I chose my lemon yellow clutch because the colour is exactly the same as the pullover - a little matchy-matchy once in a while is fun :)

So what do you think? Quite a different colour for me, isn't it? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: Bold black & white

The heat and humidity has arrived in Winnipeg so it's time to break out the sleeveless tops and lighter layers. Of course, then you have to contend with the A/C when you go indoors….ahhh…the joys of summer dressing :)

Today's outfit started with my VC black/white stripe tube skirt. Love these skirts so much (I have 3) - they are the perfect summer weight without being flimsy. I paired the skirt with my asymmetrical EF sleeveless tunic - again, the perfect summer weight and non-cling factor. Plus I absolutely love the wide shoulder straps for bra strap coverage and the underarm fit is fantastic - no side bra issues at all.

My PF is flaring up so comfy footwear was an absolute must - today's choice are my Naot black cross-strap shoes.

I went with my Kelly green handbag which I haven't used in ages as a nice pop of colour against the black and white. Because of the office A/C I always need to have that topper/completer piece with me just in case. I chose my white denim jacket but I'm not sure the length works with the long asymmetrical tunic. White watch, red specs and red lip finish off the outfit.

Thoughts on this outfit in general? Specifically, does the white denim jacket work or should I go with something longer? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: Morocco Boho

Today's outfit started with this newly thrifted Nicole Miller blouse. I love the soft shape and diagonal sleeves. But most of all, I love the pattern. It's got a bit of a Morocco vibe with the pattern and colours and then the drapey shape and style hints at boho.

Because I want the blouse to be the star, I've paired it with a simple black pencil skirt (the bands on the sleeves, neckline and bottom of the blouse are black) and my nude peep toe high-vamp sandals.

Black patent clutch, gold watch and wedding band, long gold necklace and black/white specs finish off the outfit.

What do you think? As always, all comment/suggestions welcome.

WIW: Pink Lips

Happy Friday :) It has been an extremely busy week for me and yet somehow, getting back into posting and chatting on the forum has made me feel more grounded - who knew!

Today's outfit started with my new peasant-boho style blouse in dark navy with a bright pink lipstick print. I love the shape of this blouse and the whimsical print and think it pairs perfectly with dark denim - hence my choice of of my dark wash slim fit jeans for pairing. I've rolled the jeans twice to show some ankle and popped on my nude peep toe sandals - love these things!

Accessories include my bright pink vintage Bakelite bangle, vintage navy Coach handbag and my purple/clear specs. Oh yeah…and a swipe of bright pink lipstick of my own :)

What do you think? Does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.
