WIW: There's a new BF in town

There was a fair bit of controversy about the fit of these oversized jeans when I posted them last week as potential BF jeans. I had ordered them to be regular fitting slim leg jeans but alas, they were too big. Based on the lack of refund due to shipping & duty charges, I decided to make lemonade out of lemons and hacked them up for BF jeans.

Based on the feedback I received, last night I cut another inch off the length and brought them out to play today. Angie mentioned that I wasn't wearing shoes in my previous thread and she is so right that it makes all the difference. These are now my favourite BF style jean in my wardrobe. The denim is super soft and I love the wash. Plus they are just crazy comfortable. I think I have FINALLY figured out my BF baggy threshold.

I've paired the jeans with my yellow/oatmeal striped sweater. It is cold and rainy here today so a little more warmth was definitely required. I've semi tucked the sweater and added my animal print belt for some pattern mixing and visual interest. I wanted to wear my Blondo sandals but again because of the weather, more foot coverage was needed so I've popped on my neutral pointy toe pumps. Handbag is my cream leather satchel and jewelry is my silver wedding band and white watch. Happiness factor? Pretty darned good :)

What do you think? Are these working as BF jeans to your eye? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: Silky shorts go to work

I confirmed yesterday with my boss that my silky shorts would meet the dress code for work and after given the thumbs up, popped them on this morning.
I love the feel of these silk/polyester blend shorts. The looseness of the fit is incredibly comfortable and IMO, they hit a home run with the slouchy trend.

I've paired them with a cobalt/black wide striped silky tee that has gold panels on each side which work wonders for slimming my mid section. I've semi tucked to rein in some of that volume and to expose my black belt with gunmetal buckle.

Shoes are the debut of my Enzo Angiolini black patent leather pumps with cut outs. I had to wait for warmer weather to wear these babies. I think they're so pretty and the comfort level is a 10.

Handbag is my mustard/cobalt snakeskin clutch and jewelry is my gold wedding ring and gold menswear watch.

What do you think? How are the proportions? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: Blue Stripes

I love this dress that I found at Cleo Petite several weeks back. I'm not normally a huge fan of the elasticized waist on short, high-waisted me but I think the overall slim fit of the dress balances that out and it works on this one. I did swap out the skinny black belt that came with the dress and am wearing my thicker black leather belt with gunmetal buckle. I also like the longer length of this dress and the wide shoulders - no fear of bra strap showing.

I've topped the dress with my white denim jacket and added my light cream satchel for my pops of white that I am craving these days. Footwear are my trusty old Clarks sandals.

I originally had on my white leather belt with the dress which I really liked but then the dark sandals looked out of place. I then tried my new Blondo sandals but the brown was just wrong with these colours. This has me wondering if I need white sandals? Jewelry is my chrome/white bangle watch.

So what do you think of this outfit? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: White & Yellow (and question about length)

Good morning YLFers!

Today's outfit started with these new white jeans. I have my slouchy white BF jeans but was in the market for a more fitted pair. I found these and really liked the fit of them - great in the waist and tush, nice fit in the legs. However they are a cropped jean which on my short legs, isn't quite cropped. I'm wondering if I keep the footwear low contrast, is the length ok? Or am I better to have them shortened to mid calf or roll them? I don't mind the length but I'm not sure if it looks ok to others.

I've paired the jeans with my white/yellow/taupe/black abstract tank and topped it with my bright yellow Academy blazer. Handbag is my large light cream satchel and footwear are my metallic gold flats.

What do you think? does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: Floral Moto with cobalt

When I got the Club Monaco floral moto, I knew I wanted to try pairing it with cobalt. Then the same week I found this fabulous knit cobalt pencil skirt at Cleo Petite. I already had the cobalt sleeveless knit - I couldn't believe how perfectly it went with the skirt. Like a summer knit suit almost.

So today's outfit started with the cobalt pencil skirt and sleeveless top. On top of that, I added the floral moto and scrunched the sleeves. For footwear, I went neutral with my peep toe laceless oxfords. And my handbag is my white clutch. Jewelry is simple with my silver wedding band and a silver ring on the other hand.

I can't even begin to tell you how much I love this outfit - happiness scale is waaaaaaaaaaay up there!

What do you think? Does it work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

P.S. The last shot is to show you two things - 1) how perfectly the top and skirt work together and 2) I think I found my waist again!

WIW: Mother's Day Blouse & Denim (ETA outfit tweak)

My son bought me this blouse last year for Mother's Day and I love it just as much now as I did then. It's got huge dolman/batwing sleeves, banded waist with a small flounce and is navy with large cream polka dots. It also has a built in under-tee which eliminates having to wear a camp. Fab.

I've paired it with my Canyon River Blues jeans (now my fave pair of jeans) and my taupe peep toe laceless oxfords. Handbag is my light cream satchel and I'm wearing my chrome/white watch and silver wedding band for jewelry.

What do you think? Does it work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

ETA: Something felt slightly "off" in my outfit and I realized it didn't feel quite modern enough to me, so just before I left the house I changed my shoes to my Dolce Vita bone laser cut oxfords, added my wide white leather belt to the jeans and a faux tuck and PRESTO - felt much more modern and crisp to me. Sorry I didn't have time to take a pic but will try when I get home.

And now for something completely different

I found these two pieces at Cleo Petite last week and they found their way home with me. I adore the combination of these sour brights but will be honest in that I'm not sure the proportions are quite right here. I think this swishy skirt needs to be paired with a shorter sweater.

Anyway, I'm wearing a lime green/citron full pleated skirt with a bright orange 3/4 sleeve back zip slouchy sweater. I've kept the rest of the outfit neutral with my taupe pumps and snakeskin handbag. Jewelry is my gold watch and a chunky gold ring.

What do you think? does it work together? how are the proportions? I do feel this is not a traditionally flattering silhouette. It is one of those outfits that looks much better in movement.  As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: Floral & Denim

Needed a FFBO outfit today - feeling quite under the weather and busy day ahead. I popped on my favourite floral frock (how do you like THAT for alliteration???) and topped it with my faded cropped denim jacket. I like my lighter denim jacket with this dress to bring out the blue flowers and lighten the overall colour palette. For shoes, I need comfort so went with my neutral pointy toe kitten heel pumps. Grabbed my green handbag for more colour and spring attitude and away we go.

What do you think? Does it all work together? I wanted to wear my green Poetic Licence pumps but they just aren't as comfortable as they used to be. As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Dear Hudson's Bay

I’m so pleased to see that you are working hard to revamp your store. You are bringing in some wonderful brands and designers and expanding your petite section to include so many more options.  I love that you have many comparable items to larger U.S. retailers such as Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s.  I want to support my local economy and am proud to be able to purchase from Canada’s oldest company. But you make it so darned hard to be a loyal customer!

I was in your store yesterday, Victoria Day. You had several wonderful sales on for our long weekend and you should have known it would be very busy.  On the entire floor consisting of ladies wear (regular, plus size and petite sections), footwear, handbags, jewelry & accessories and cosmetics, you had a total of three customer service pay stations open and there were no staff on the floor to assist anyone. It was absolute mayhem.

I would like to say that this was due to the long weekend, but this is nothing new. I find your store very poorly staffed and the staff I am able to find often do not know where anything is and are not particularly helpful.  Because the store is always so ridiculously short staffed, the change rooms are bursting to the seams with clothing that has been left by customers, the racks containing clothing to be returned to the sales floor are so full that people are just tossing clothes on the floor underneath the rack and I have often had to wait 20-30 minutes to find a sales assistant who can unlock the change room area so that I can try on my items. This was the case yesterday and I finally put my items back and left without trying them on.

Sadly, I find your online service also lacking. I emailed customer service over a week ago to indicate that the oxfords I had purchased the day before had now been discounted by $50 and asked if I would be able to get a refund for the difference. Not only have not received a refund, I have not received a single reply to my email.

I want to buy locally. I want to support stores in my area. But it’s getting tougher and tougher to support you when there are others willing to take my money and offer me better service. If you want to compete with “the big guys” then you need to act like them.

Signed,

Ms. Loyalty Wavering

WIW: Military Slouch

This outfit may seem a bit dark and dreary for early summer, but it suits the kind of weather we're having and I think I've added warm weather "bits" by scrunching the sleeves and wearing the shoes with bare feet.

I started today's outfit with my black slouchy trousers and a simple black tank. On top of that, I added my military-inspired olive green jacket. I then added the two-tone olive Fluevogs and my olive/cream snakeskin satchel. A gold watch and wedding ring finished off the outfit.

What do you think? Early summer enough looking or too heavy? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.
