WIW: Stripes & Black Slouchies for the Cold

It is bitterly, bitterly cold here today - I had originally planned to wear a dress to work but forget that...covered up and warmth is the key today.

I started with my Lord & Taylor slouchy black trousers and then paired those with my Lord & Taylor merino wool striped hi-lo voluminous sweater. I was concerned that slouchy + volume = shapeless and huge but to my pleasant surprise, these two pieces work well together and I'm happy with the look.

To pull out the cream stripe in the sweater, I'm using my black/cream handbag and for footwear, my Doc Marten Marcie's.

I got my hair trimmed Saturday afternoon and we went with a super short slightly chunky pixie - hope you like it!

So how does this all look to your eyes? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Sweater & trousers: Lord & Taylor
Boots: Doc Marten

WIW: Cardi as a top with skinny slouchies

I have a day of some errand running as well as an appointment later on to get my hair trimmed, so casual comfort is the choice for today. BTW you are all going to get sick of seeing me in these jeans...just saying...

I've paired the skinny slouchies with a Nygard silk blend cardigan I've had for 3-4 years. I love the various shades of purple with black, cream and citron blended in, and the 3/4 length sleeves. I decided today to wear it buttoned up as a top rather than layering it over something. I've semi tucked it into the jeans and am wearing a black leather with gun metal buckle belt.

For footwear, I'm wearing my black wedge booties which have great grip for outside and are partly lined so warm enough for running around outside.

What do you think? Does the sweater work as a top? Proportions ok? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Sweater: Nygard
Jeans: Canyon River
Booties: Blowfish

WIW: Slouchy Skinnies & Chunky Knit

This is the smaller pair of the Canyon River slouchy skinnies I bought and are one size up from my regular size. Again, without the belt there is the possibility of a wardrobe malfunction. And because I had intercepted Wonder Woman regarding the tapering of the ankle, the hemming on these is just right :)

I've paired the jeans with my chunky cream fisherman knit sweater and have semi tucked the sweater so a wee bit of the animal print belt can show. On my feet are the SE python booties for a bit of pattern mixing with the belt and because they have cream in them, they bookend the sweater.

For my handbag I went with my Fossil re-issue vintage two tone bag - it picks up the cognac tones in the belt.

Jewelry is just my wedding ring and gold oversized watch.

What do you think? Proportions work ok? I must say these are now my FAVOURITE jeans - love the cut, colour, fit, everything. As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Sweater: Nygard (thrifted)
Jeans: Canyon River (Sears)

I'm a lucky gal!

Just had to show you what DH and MIL went in together on and bought me for Christmas. DH actually remembered a conversation where I had mentioned looking for a cream handbag come spring as Angie always makes hers look so darned fab with everything.

So below are the pics of the gorgeous Danier Leather cream handbag they bought for me - with the most gorgeous floral lining to boot! It is the perfect larger satchel size that can be carried both on my arm or on my shoulder. It has just the right amount of pockets and a few fab zippered details.

I am going to be thrilled to bring this out for use come March/April and feel like about the luckiest gal going to be so loved. Frankly I'm just so amazed he even remembered the conversation!

The cost of international shopping

I'd thought I'd share with you the cost of my navy suit error. I bought this Anne Klein petite navy herringbone suit but alas, the fit is too small (here's my thread on that http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ed-and-its).

Cost of the suit = $128.91
Duty = $35.93
Shipping = 20.57
Total paid = $185.41

And what will I be getting back after paying return shipping, etc?
$131.14, a loss of $54.27

When I order from Nordstrom it is an expensive risk to take. So I'm going to stick with brands that I know for sure fit or will shop locally. I can't afford that type of mistake.

I sooooooo wish we had a Nordstrom here...

WIW: Stripes for Back to Work

Good morning lovely ladies (and NPM)! I hope you've all had a wonderful Christmas and are enjoying this festive season.

Back to work this morning but unfortunately feeling less than wonderful. We had Christmas dinner at my sister-in-law's and everyone who ate the chicken slouvaki got food poisoning. Both my son and I have been sick since about 9:00 p.m. Christmas night - let's just say it's a good thing we have more than one bathroom! Hubby is a picky eater and didn't have any so he was ok.

Oh well...back to work today and as is tradition at our office, the week between Christmas and New Year's is office clean up so casual wear is acceptable.

Today I'm wearing a simple pair of dark straight legged jeans with my red/white/navy striped dropped shoulder Gap sweater. For footwear I've got on my red booties and my handbag is my black leather with gold hardware Christopher Kon.

What do you think? Proportions ok? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Sweater: Gap
Jeans: Reitmans
Boots: Sam Edelman
Handbag: Christopher Kon (consignment)

Feeling a mind:body disconnect

I've been enjoying Pinterest and seeing so much inspiration and so many lovely things. I've worked at separating my boards into now What I Want to Wear versus Inspiration.

Attached is my What I Want to Wear board - but when I look at it, I really wonder how many of these things work for my body type.

I'm a size 12/14 and much, much heavier than I would like to be, and have been. I try very hard to have a positive body image and for the most part, don't let my size get me down. But many times what I see in my WIW pics upsets me. It is difficult at my height (5'1") and size to wear flattering proportions and ensure I look like I have a waist.

Looking at the outfits on the Board, I love all of them and would ultimately like to dress in this manner but wonder if these styles coincide with my physical body type. I deliberately do not choose items for my Board that realistically can only be worn by tall willowy women. But maybe these aren't practical either.

So I guess my question to you all is "can I wear these types of styles with my body type"? And if not, what does work for me?

WIW: Slouchy Skinnies come out to play

I got back my slouchy skinnies from Wonder Woman last night - see here for the whole tale http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....at-do-i-do and she really did a fab job of repairing the problem. So much so that I'm wearing them today and LOVING them!

Please excuse the lack of make up or any real hair style - I just came in from shoveling the walk and will now be getting "prettied" up to go get groceries.

These are two sizes up from my regular size and without the belt fall off without any help. But I much prefer them to my Gap sexy BF's because I prefer the rise, the colour of the dye and the fit of the leg. Sorry Gap BF's - you're now relegated to being "house pants".

I have another pair of these slouchy skinnies with Wonder Woman only one size up being hemmed and am looking forward to having two different fit options in the same jean.

I've paired these with a newer turquoise, lime green and white argyle sweater that I got a few weeks ago and have brought in some pattern mixing by using my animal print calf hair belt. Footwear are my simple black wedge booties.

Hope you like this casual offering - I gotta say that my happiness scale for this ensemble is definitely 10/10!

Thank you for the recommendation on these jeans Angie - I love them! I know this look won't be to everyone's taste as the baggy oversized jeans aren't everyone's favourite look. I'm cool with that.

WIW: Ikat Dress with Denim Jacket

Normally on Fridays I wear some type of jeans to work but today our office is going out for its Christmas lunch at a local restaurant, so I wanted to take the jeans up a notch. But we do wear denim for charity on Fridays so didn't want to leave it out altogether. So I've paired my green/black Ikat print dress with my cropped denim jacket. I'm a little unsure of the proportions here so let me know if it works or not.

And because it's cold, my bottom half has on black opaque tights and my Blondo knee high boots. I like the boots with the dress but wish I could wear black fishnets so my lower half doesn't look quite so heavy - but waaaaaaaaay too cold for that today!

So although I like the idea of this outfit I'm not entirely convinced it works IRL. What do you think? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Denim jacket: Brody Jeans (thrifted)
Dress: Cleo Petite
Tights: Roots
Boots: Blondo
