WIW: Slouchy & new-ish floral top

I bought this top about two months ago and have been waiting for summer to arrive to pull it out. It's an interesting floral-type print and I love the oversized look and all the colours in it. I've semi-tucked it into my black slouchy trousers and added my black Clarks sandals for footwear. Accessories include my green handbag and a simple oversized black/white men's watch. I think the top would work well with white bottoms too.

What do you think? Does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Summer Casual in White

I pretty much always post my Monday-Friday work wear but I'm going to start posting more of my weekend casual wear for two reasons: 1) so you can see how I dress outside of work and see if it still fits my fashion persona; and 2) provide me with casual dressing advice as this is what I struggle with more than work wear.

I'm about to head out the door to take my son for his final fitting of his suit for grad (he's going all tonal grey & silver) and then go get the weekly groceries. It is hot here today (yippee!) so shorts are the way to go. I put on my white Bermudas which were thrifted white jeans that I had shortened by Wonder Woman (they were actually too short for me to wear as jeans) and my white and blue oversized silk tee. I've added my gold metallic flats and my woven vintage handbag for accessories.

Does this work? Proportions ok? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Tee: Laura Petite
Shorts: Jones New York (thrifted and altered)
Shoes: Enzo Angiolini
Handbag: Vintage

P.S. I'll be back this evening to read all your wonderful threads from last night and today. Gotta work in the garden after grocery shopping to finish putting all my veggies and flowers in. You know the saying "gotta make hay while the sun shines"! Later my lovelies...

WIW: Sci Fi Friday

Today I'm going to be moving a bunch of medical equipment and reaching up and crouching down a lot so a dress just wasn't going to work for my activities. But I looked at this as an opportunity to break out my new sci-fi inspired Eileen Fisher metallic short sleeved top.

I've paired this shiny beauty with my white BF jeans and a wide wide leather belt, with a faux tuck. This top faux tucks perfectly and stays put.

For footwear I've added my bone/silver sandals which are now absolute faves in my closet. I love how the silver straps bookend the silver top. I've added my light cream satchel for my handbag and jewelry consists of a silver ring and a cream/green acrylic bangle made by a local artist.

I'm over the moon with happiness on this outfit - I'm loving the mix of whites (pure white, light cream, bone), something I never would have done pre YLF.

What do you think? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Grad Outfits x 2

Thank you to everyone who replied to my thread asking for help on deciding what dress to wear to my son's graduation dinner & dance http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....nner-dance. I've decided to go with the blue lace dress which I love and always feel great in. And yes Angie - I knew you'd pick that one :)

After the great shoe/sandal purge of 2013, I don't have a lot in the way of colored dressy sandals to wear so options I have to go with the blue lace are my Enzo Angiolini cut out black patent pointy toe pumps (see pic 1) or my Kate Spade cobalt patent pumps (see pic 2 - actually shown here with the lace dress). My other option is to check out my favorite upscale consignment store and see what they have for metallic strappy sandals, something I don't have. What is your choice?

Then I need to look at which clutch to carry - I could go with the cobalt and yellow clutch in pic 1, my white leather clutch, the one I bought last year and haven't even used yet (see pic 3) or also check at the consignment store for something sparkly. Which one? And I guess it depends on what I wear for shoes.

For jewelry, I will wear my diamond stud earrings, cocktail ring and a large cuff. I don't wear a necklace with this dress because it catches in the lace.

I've also attached pics of what I think I'll wear to the Convocation ceremony. If the A/C is freezing in the church, I can leave the jacket on and if it's warm, I can take the jacket off. I'll use the white leather clutch but am going to switch the shoes to my new silver/bone sandals. Do you think this is ok?

Thank you so much for your help ladies :)

WIW: Day 4 Dress Challenge

I have got to thank two ladies this morning - Ingunn, for starting the dress challenge which has reaffirmed my love of dresses and Angie, for getting me started on light coloured footwear starting with the python booties.

Today's outfit started with my abstract print wrap dress that is going on 4 years old now. Still love it and it's still in great condition. This was a good purchase. I've added a wide purple belt to the dress to accentuate my waist and pick up some of the purple tones in the dress. I tried a white belt first to pick up the white in the dress but it just seemed so stark against the print. For footwear, I popped on my bone laser cut oxfords. Can you believe this is the first time I've worn oxfords with a dress? I was inspired by Ingunn and Astrid who wear oxfords with skirts and dresses so beautifully.

Accessories consist of my white watch, silver wedding band and my white leather clutch.

I feel ready for the day, perfectly comfortable and stylish to boot - what do you think? does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: Day 3 Dress Challenge & 2 new items

Today's outfit was a bit of a challenge as I wanted to debut my new white blazer and my new silver/bone sandals. However, it is also our hospital's staff barbecue today and I'm volunteering at it and will be serving hotdogs while standing on grass. So how to keep greasy stains off the jacket and grass stains off the shoes?

So I am wearing the white blazer, which I'm already loving. It's a fairly tailored and crisp piece which gives me the structure that I like. The sleeves scrunch and stay put nicely thanks to the arm fit and useful three buttons on the cuff.

I've popped the jacket on top of my simple black sheath dress and added my white leather clutch. This is a direct copycat of an outfit Ingunn showed us with her sheath dress and white blazer. I love the simplicity and boldness of it - thanks for the inspiration Ingunn!

And I'm debuting my new silver and bone shoe-sandals. I'm falling more and more in love with these each time I pop them on my feet. So glad I got these.

Then when I head out to the lawn for the barbecue, I will take the jacket off (it's going to be quite warm today) and switch the shoe-sandals to my cream/black quilted flats.

How do you like the white blazer? Does the outfit work? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: Day 2 of dress challenge

Today's dress that I haven't worn for a while is my Anne Klein navy eyelet fit and flare. Love the full skirt and retro style of this dress. I popped on a dark brown leather with brass grommet detail belt for waist emphasis and then added my faded cropped denim jacket as protection against the A/C. Footwear are my new Blondo sandals and handbag is my thrifted vintage Italian straw-like bag.

I'm not sure this quite pulled together the way I was hoping for but it's too late to change now. What do you think? Does it work? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

K/R Eileen Fisher Metallic Knit Wedge Top

The petite medium Eileen Fisher metallic knit wedge top that I ordered from Nordstrom was waiting for me when I got home today. I popped it on and quickly took a couple of pics to show you. I do kind of wish I had ordered the petite large for more slouch, but it is no longer available - in fact, no other size other than X-Large and Plus size are available.

I'm kinda digging it and really like how it bookends the silver straps of my new bone sandal-shoes.

What do you think? Keep or return?

P.S. I don't know WHAT the heck is with the angle of that first pic - I look ginormous!

WIW: Day 1 of dress challenge

I was thrilled to see Ingunn's suggestion to have a dress challenge this week and I decided to further my own challenge, by ensuring I wear dresses I haven't worn as often or since the warmer weather arrived.

Today's offering is my graphic black/white tiered dress that I bought two years ago. I've popped on my light weight black knit blazer over top for A/C coverage and added my simple but very comfortable Clarks sandals.

I have two pops of colour in my bright pink vintage Bakelite bangle and my citron leather clutch. I guess my pink toenails and lipstick are further pops of colour if you want to get technical - lol!

What do you think? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

White sandals & the comfort factor

I posted a thread last week ago about my great white sandal hunt http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....dal-search and in the last three days have tried on probably upwards of 20 pairs of white sandals. I've tried on smooth leather, patent leather, mixed leather with straw or cork, wedge heeled, kitten heeled, no heeled, ankle strap, thong style, slide on, strappy, dainty, chunky and they have all been lovely and that have all been UNCOMFORTABLE. Seriously uncomfortable. Either the ankle straps hit me in the wrong spot or they're too narrow to accommodate my newly acquired baby bunion or they don't have a soft footbed, etc.

So I went back to the thread I linked to above and decided to try on pair #3 (the Fugitive sandal with the bone closed toe and silver criss cross straps). There wasn't a lot of love for these from the forum but at this point, I figured nothing ventured, nothing gained right?

I tried them on last night and you know how I commented that my new Blondo sandals are a 10 out of 10 on the comfort scale? Well these Fugitive sandals are a 20. I swear I could feel my feet say "aaaaahhhhhh" when I put them on. They are the perfect width to accommodate my bunion, the footbed is positively luxurious and spongy, the heel doesn't come up too high on the back and there isn't a pinch or rub anywhere on my foot. They are not a true white but a bone colour and have a hint of sci-fi with the silver straps and a silver cap on the back of the foot. IMO they would work with both casual wear and dresses/skirts. They won't work for very dressy but in all honesty, I don't need a lot of dressy for the warm months.

So I bought them and here they are with the dress/white denim jacket combo that got me thinking about white sandals in the first place. I fully realize they will not be everyone's cuppa but comfort has ruled here. I will also admit that I really like how different they are from what else I've seen and yet I find them still quite ladylike. I am interested to hear what you think of the style both generally and for me but I guess I should point out that unless y'all say they are "buck ugly", they are staying based on pure comfort and fun factor.

BTW I did find the Nine West sandals (sandal #2 in my original thread) and they were way too narrow for the front of my foot and the ankle strap was much too high for me.
