Summer Casual in White

I pretty much always post my Monday-Friday work wear but I'm going to start posting more of my weekend casual wear for two reasons: 1) so you can see how I dress outside of work and see if it still fits my fashion persona; and 2) provide me with casual dressing advice as this is what I struggle with more than work wear.

I'm about to head out the door to take my son for his final fitting of his suit for grad (he's going all tonal grey & silver) and then go get the weekly groceries. It is hot here today (yippee!) so shorts are the way to go. I put on my white Bermudas which were thrifted white jeans that I had shortened by Wonder Woman (they were actually too short for me to wear as jeans) and my white and blue oversized silk tee. I've added my gold metallic flats and my woven vintage handbag for accessories.

Does this work? Proportions ok? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Tee: Laura Petite
Shorts: Jones New York (thrifted and altered)
Shoes: Enzo Angiolini
Handbag: Vintage

P.S. I'll be back this evening to read all your wonderful threads from last night and today. Gotta work in the garden after grocery shopping to finish putting all my veggies and flowers in. You know the saying "gotta make hay while the sun shines"! Later my lovelies...

    Looks good to me!

Very nice!  I like your casual wear!

Looks great!  I, too, struggle with the casual look.  It's especially difficult since I stopped working to stay home with my boys and no longer need my career wear.  I'll be watching all your wonderful looks for inspiration.

The shorts look great - they are the perfect length and not too wide. Well done Wonder Woman.

So pretty!  Love the silky tee, it really adds that polish to this casual outfit, taking it from casual to smart casual.  The footwear and ladylike bag help too.  Hope you have a good day shopping and gardening!  And btw what qualifies as "hot" in Canada?  It's supposed to reach 100 F (38 C) here today.  In my book, anything over 90 (32) is hot, maybe even anything over 85, while temperatures below that are warm.

So pretty! A great casual look that is fresh and modern. You continue to inspire as always, Shannon. Adding this to my inspiration file! :)

Awesome!  Looking forward to seeing more of your casual wear.  More stuff to copy ;-)

Looks great! I am in jeans and ugly compression stockings and a sweater because it's chilly here. We are smoking a brisket so I reek like smoke too, have to change before guests arrive :)

    Wonderful look and idea!

I always love seeing casual wear! It can be hard to dress down without dressing d o w n. You look like a perfect casual version of your dressy persona! And what a cute bag!

    Casual summer perfection!  :)

Very nice.  I am jealous that you can wear such a cool outfit, it is cold out here in ON.

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

Great outfit imo - love the fit of everything & the colours are fab on you.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Thank you all so much for your lovely comments - good to know I went out of the house meeting your approval :)

Denise - hot here is pretty much anything over 80-85. We're quite humid so 80 degrees with our humidity can feel pretty darn warm. In high summer our daytime temperatures average anywhere from +27 to +35 degrees Celcius and then you add in what they call the humidex (which combined with our actual temperature gives you the temperature it "feels" like) we can get as high as +35 to +40 degrees Celcius.

You have been so consistent in your fabness! This is so pretty, polished and comfortable looking. Lovely colors on you!

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Shannon please post more casual outfits and then lock them up because I am feeling a strong temptation to come and steal this and suspect this won't be the last time!

Charcoal grey and aqua against a white background looks great with your salt n pepper hair.

  • Vildy replied 10 years ago

Wonderful to see this aspect of your wardrobe - I won't say "style" because there is such a throughline, as you indicated there would be.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Oh yes!  Stellar short outift.  The long over long works here, because everything is easy fitting, but not oversized.  I love the bright, but soft palette and the ladylike touches in shoes and bag.  How to you "handle" shopping with a bag that you can't sling over your shoulder?

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Beth Ann - no problem with the handbag. I just put it in the top part of my shopping cart.

Thanks to YLF and the forum, I am getting more comfortable with my casual wear by getting so many great ideas and wonderful inspiration from all of YOUR casual outfits. So thanks!

Love the very smart casual look here. The blue and gold accent is really fun with the white. Post more casual outfits please :)

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

I thought I wrote a comment on this outfit, but it seems I did not. But what I want to say is: I want to steal it!!! Seriously, if I could manage to look this good on my summer work at home days, I would think I had hit fashion nirvana.

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

I wasn't expecting an outfit SO Fab after reading your post!
The altered pants really make the perfect shorts, and I love all the colours here.

  • Archer replied 10 years ago

Entirely in keeping with your style. YLF

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

I think this outfit is on keeping with your working week style. It's well put together, very cohesive and just gorgeous. Love you in white;)

  • annaj replied 10 years ago

I think you look gorgeous!! I prefer the photo with your hand in your pocket, so based on that, I'd try a mini-semi tuck. That might just be a "me" thing though because I prefer my hems not to sit perfectly straight around my hips, so the semi tuck works well for me.

  • Vix replied 10 years ago

    Hi Shannon --

I too was making hay while the sun shone, but a big "ditto" to all of the above, but especially the comments encouraging more of your casual summer looks.

This one is so fresh and flattering, and the colors in the top look amazing on you!

  • citygirldc replied 10 years ago

I love your printed t shirts. This would be a great weekend outfit for me so I must borrow that look.  :)

  • Astrid replied 10 years ago

This is a perfect summer look! I love it.

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago
