WIW: White & Yellow (and question about length)

Good morning YLFers!

Today's outfit started with these new white jeans. I have my slouchy white BF jeans but was in the market for a more fitted pair. I found these and really liked the fit of them - great in the waist and tush, nice fit in the legs. However they are a cropped jean which on my short legs, isn't quite cropped. I'm wondering if I keep the footwear low contrast, is the length ok? Or am I better to have them shortened to mid calf or roll them? I don't mind the length but I'm not sure if it looks ok to others.

I've paired the jeans with my white/yellow/taupe/black abstract tank and topped it with my bright yellow Academy blazer. Handbag is my large light cream satchel and footwear are my metallic gold flats.

What do you think? does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Blazer: Gap
Tank: Laura Petite
Jeans: Reitmans
Shoes: Enzo Angiolini
Handbag: Danier Leather

This is truly a gorgeous outfit Shannon. The colours are just beautiful on you and I have to say your hair is looking SO good. Yellow is such a good colour for you Shannon!

  • replied 10 years ago

Love how your hair is shaping up!

I think you might be ok since they have a slimmer leg. Love the yellow and white!

I love this on you...But no help with pant length...
I have an exact looking brown coudroy so will be looking at the replies very carefully

I love the colours in this outfit. The pants may be borderline short, but I think they work well with the shoes you've chosen.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

You look great Shannon but I think I would like the jeans a little shorter or a little longer - since you asked. If I saw you on the street I would notice the gorgeous colors and how it all works together so well and wonder where you got the pieces.

Good morning to you. Mmmm...you look so light and refreshing. I've seen you in yellow before and its a good color for you. You pants length is fine, but personally I would wear them rolled to just above my ankle bone. It's all a matter of preference and you look smashing.  Always do...always will :)

Hair twin, hair twin, hair twin!!!   :-)

I love this outfit! So fresh and happy!

For the pants, I am going to counsel you to roll or hem up a bit. Here is why. I have experience with this length. Sometimes if I size up in petite and there is slouch, this is more or less where they fall on me. And it ends up driving me crazy. First off, it is always more leg-shortening than I like to think when I look in the mirror. Second, it gets shorter during the day as the pants wrinkle (and even if they bag a little, that doesn't seem to help). I can feel them on my ankle bone and it feels funny. And finally, if I am wearing a higher vamp shoe, they are always getting caught on it. So I would say, with Angie, 3 inches above the ankle bone. Or maybe 2.5 in your case.

    My advice, FWIW. YMMV.

Is there any happier color combo than yellow & white? I'm loving it these days.

Thanks for the feedback on the pant length. I think I will have them shortened. They are tapered enough that shortened, they should sit nicely against the skin.

Suz - I KNOW!!! It's so funny you mention the hair twin thing 'cause this morning as I was putting in my hair wax it dawned on me that I'm developing the same hair style as you - and love it! Of course, who better to fashion myself after :)

OMG, I almost did a CSA without knowing it!  Started off the day with white jeans and my yellow Gap mesh sweater... bu then I chickened out and switched to the navy one.... wish I didn't feel so "out there" in the yellow, because I always love it on others.  Need more practice I guess :)

Anyway, I think this is an amazing outfit on you Shannon, I absolutely love that shirt.  Agree with Suz on the leg length of the pants - the length they are looks a bit like you just missed.  A roll would look more purposeful.  Or as you said,  taper to a proper "ankle pant" look.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Another vote for a hem and tapering in these pants!  That said, I love the outfit --- light and bright, but pleasing and cohesive.  The shoes were a great choice, along with the bag.

  • jurocha replied 10 years ago

The comments on pant lenght are very much welcome over here too! Thanks, girls!

Shannon, the color scheme of your outfit is so fresh and summer-y! I like it - specially the golden flats. Although the pant lenght doesn't disturb me, I will refrain on voting for keeps (or toss) of the white jeans. As I explained in the beginning, pants lenght also puzzle me...

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Just to clarify - I wouldn't be tapering the leg at all on the pants. The fit is fine around the calf. I will just be shortening them.

Jurocha - just going to hem the pants, they are not being tossed.

Love this outfit!!  So happy and vibrant!

(leaving the pant leg question to those more knowledgeable than me!!  I struggle mightly with PPL)

  • Sona replied 10 years ago

happy colors. I would like to see the pant rolled up between knee and ankle.

  • Glory replied 10 years ago

Shannon you really rock the white and yellow combo. I would recommend going shorter with the pants as this is such a difficult length to work with. Perhaps try pinning them and snapping a few shots to be sure.

  • replied 10 years ago

This is such a great outfit and the pants are soooooo close to perfect. I'm sure 99% of the people on the street would say they look just fine. Maybe two rolls would do it?

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 10 years ago

Lovely summery outfit.  Sadly it did not match the weather today.

I think you need to shorten or lengthen the pants though.  They look kind of in between and I think would be a sharper look if adjusted.  I wouldn't roll though as the bulk would be distracting.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

Oh how I struggle with PPL! My ankle pants hit exactly where yours are, except I wear a tall size - a regular size is too short, a tall size is too long. Are ankle pants supposed to hit at or above the ankle? If above the ankle, how many inches above?

  • replied 10 years ago

I think it is 3" above the ankle? Not sure.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

You look as yummy as lemon merangue pie!  Another vote to shorten the pants (or let out the hem if there is any.)

  • Mary Beth (formerly LBD) replied 10 years ago

I love the length on you - but I think you can play with these, and roll them up, and they will continue to look great on you :)    Don't chop off any fabric unless you know for sure you want 'em perma-shorter (been there, done that, been a sad camper)

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

I would just roll them and not cut them, but that's just me.  With the taper, the length might work in the winter with some of your boots too.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

I like the way the hair is shaping up too! Gorgeous colour palette! KILLER jacket :)

I vote roll the jeans, Shanon. Not quite long enough to my eye.

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Shannon, do you have a summer bootie or shootie that would work with the jeans and lengthen the look?

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

I can't thank y'all enough for weighing in on the length issue for me. They were "just about" you know? There is no seam allowance at all to make them longer and I actually ended up rolling them up part way through the day and felt much better. I think I'm going to just play with rolling them rather than shorten them for now.

Deb - I was wondering the same thing. Maybe with my bone laser cut oxfords?

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

I agree with the "roll or shorten" contingent.  Other than that, this outfit is stellar!  I love the colors!  Yellow, gray and white is one of my favorite combinations for spring!

  • Runcarla replied 10 years ago

Just love this fresh outfit, and yellow just might be your signiturre colour. The pants fit your shape beautifully, but I vote 'roll', too.
