WIW: Thrift Week Day 1

I decided that this week, I will wear a thrifted item every day. I suspect this will not be difficult as probably 50% of my wardrobe is thrifted with another 30% from eBay. But for this purpose, I will make sure an item from a local thrift store will be worn each day.

Today's offering is the waxed denim jacket I picked up at Value Village on Thursday evening. It's a brand called Chagall (never heard of it). It's a gunmetal grey colour with brush strokes of black, giving it a slightly distressed and beat up look. The fit is just spot on and the weight will be good across all seasons.

I paired the jacket with my black EF drape front dress and Doc Martens boots. Accessories include my black leather handbag, a gunmetal wrap cuff, silver wedding band and black/white specs.

The overall outfit is a little tough/grunge and a little moody - perfect for this cooler, dreary looking morning.

Thoughts on this outfit? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: Chagall (thrifted)
Dress: Eileen Fisher (eBay)
Boots: Doc Martens (eBay)
Cuff: thrifted
Handbag: Danier Leather

P.S. Haircut is scheduled for tomorrow evening and I can hardly wait. My hair drove me nuts all weekend!

Wow, fab jacket! it looks awesome with the dress and adds just enough edge. Can't believe your thrifting abilities.

This looks great! The jacket is kind of classic cut but edgy die to the pattern/finish. And you are my poster girl for Docs. One day I will discover my perfect pair:). Looking forward to the rest of this weeks outfits. You thrift so wisely and have some fab items.

    Fun outfit, Shannon!

It is really interesting that you're reviving/ refreshing your closet with thrift finds after having more or less sworn off thrifting for a while.

I suspect you will find thrifting to be a different experience now that you had a few years without doing much of it. I imagine you will be more discerning about your purchases and that they will fit into your closet in a slightly different way. I look forward to learning about how it works!

Very interesting jacket, Chagall was big in the 80's. Is was more prestige than nygard, or Paris star. I think they were out of Montreal.
This look of cute and the jacket looks modern.

This looks terrific. I would also like to see that jacket with white jeans I think. Looking forward to your new hair - mine is shorter than ever too!

Really like how you've paired the boots with a pencil silhouette.

I like the edginess of that jacket's finish. I, too, would like to see it paired with white jeans and perhaps a shirt in a bright color, almost a neon hue. I can see that working well as a third piece.

I love the jacket paired with the black dress.  I have to admit I wasn't impressed by the jacket in your shopping post, but wanted to see how you would style it before making any comments.  I think the jacket fits perfectly into your style like this.

Ooh, that jacket is cool! Love how you styled it. I like the bit of edge in this look.

Not only are you the Thrifting Queen, you are the Styling Queen.  If one has a great column of black like your EF dress, there are so many possibilities for jackets, aren't there?  I could see the jacket with any color jeans and you might be able to pattern mix by wearing it with that paintbrush stroke design silky tee.
I have been looking forward to seeing these pieces in action :)

Cool idea for dressing this week!  When you hit up a thrift shop, are you just seeing what might catch your eye - or do you go looking with something in mind?  I'm way out of the loop on thrift stores -curious too where you go here in Wpg.

    Great styling of the jacket.

Whoa, love this look, Shannon! That jacket is really great, I like the juxtaposition of the cut with the unexpected fabric.

Thanks ladies - sorry I'm so late popping back in. CRAZY day!

Suz - I've been feeling the pull to thrifting a bit more lately. I think it's because when I do find something that works, it's not what is in the stores right now and therefore feels more unique to me. But I am definitely more picky than I used to be - gosh, remember all this tries and fails over the years??? Now the item still has to fit with my existing wardrobe and overall style goals.

Lisa - I go into a thrift store (my favorite by far is Value Village on Regent) with a general idea of what I'm looking for - i.e. dress, blazer, blouse, etc. but nothing more specific than that. I find I need some parameters or it's just overwhelming due to the amount of stuff in the store. But not so restrictive that I can't find anything, if that makes sense. And honestly probably 8 times out of 10, I come home with nothing. In the end, even at only $5 it still has to be a good purchase.

I really like this look on you....and you are looking wonderful and healthy too.

The jacket is great, I think this is repeat worthy or with jeans, khaki pants it will also work terrifically.

Oh wow! Great look! I love the boots especially. The whole outfit works so well together and is great inspiration for this girl looking to add a little edge to my style.

Fab! That jacket was an awesome find!

Interesting to hear how thrifting is working for you now versus before.
