WIW: MaryK Copycat

I loved MaryK's recent outfit with her denim shirt and black/white striped VC tube and knew I had to copy it for Denim Day (a.k.a. Casual Friday).

I do wish I had snapped up the larger black and white striped VC skirt but this smaller striped version is what was available in my local store. I paired the skirt with my denim shirt and black sandals, which are the closest I have to MaryK's gorgeous cage style sandals. My black slouchy leather bag with gold hardware and a blue and silver art deco inspired bracelet round out the outfit.

MaryK - you are my Pinterest and I love seeing how you take inspiration from all sorts of outfits and make them your own. As a result, you make me think outside of the box too - keep 'em coming gorgeous lady! Pic #4 shows how fab MaryK looks in her outfit and what inspired me.

Pic #5 is showing you the new bra I bought last night (yep...our friendship has reached THAT level - lol!). I finally went last night and got sized since my old bras were no longer fitting right. Had the most delightful young 20ish SA who was just amazing. Ended up buying 4 bras and 4 pairs of matching panties - I feel so fab knowing I have this pretty retro houndstooth and hot pink bra on :)

All always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: Inspired by Amiable & Ceit

I loved the outfits Amy and Ceit wore this week featuring cobalt, black and white - such a gorgeous colour combination on such lovely ladies!

I am shamelessly copying that idea and started today's outfit with my cobalt knit pencil skirt and tank. I can't believe how well these match considering they are two different brands, bought at two different stores at two different times.

I topped the skirt and tank with my black and white striped knit blazer. I have lost my love for knit blazers as they do not have enough structure for me but I still held on to this one because it does have a bit more shape than other ones I had.

To further play up the colour scheme, I chose my black and white Doc high heeled saddle shoes and my cobalt/cream/black quilted handbag. Jewelry is my black and white oversized watch and silver wedding band.

This is pretty darned matchy-matchy for me - what do you think of all of this together? does it work? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: Orange Animal

It is uncharacteristically warm here this week - in the low 20's (Celcius) so am taking advantage of the last bit of bare legged dressing before the snow flies. It does make it a wee bit challenging to still look "autumn appropriate" while keeping comfortable.

I started today's outfit with my animal print pencil skirt. This has already turned into a bit of a workhorse and I've only had it a few weeks. I've paired the skirt with a light weight orange knit slouchy pull over. I realize the light weight of the knit means the animal print pattern shows a bit through the sweater but honestly, that doesn't bother me one bit.

I chose my laser cut bone oxfords for footwear and bookended the shoes with my large cream handbag. A gold watch and wedding band rounds out the outfit.

So what do you think? Does this meet "bare legged autumn appropriate" dressing? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

BTW Suz if you see this - I too am going to be passing on my portobello mushroom skirt. Just doesn't make me happy anymore.

WIW: A Simple Outfit

Got some work stresses going on right now and felt the need for a simple outfit today - sort of the dressier work version of jeans and a t-shirt if you will.

Started the outfit with these black trousers by Jay Manuel. They are very menswear-ish and normally I don't like these type of side pockets but because the fabric isn't stiff or heavy, they lay fairly flat. They're a little bit big so may need to buy them in a size down soon. But my black belt holds them up and they will be comfy.

To the trousers I added my silver Eileen Fisher short sleeved top. I'll be honest in that I wasn't sure about this top at first and found it a wee bit snug in the mid section - and this fabric shows every lump and bump, believe me. But between me shrinking a bit and the top stretching out a bit, we have met in a happy place :) I loooooooove how it's like wearing liquid. It feels so good on and now has perfect slouch.

I've added my trust black Clarks sandals for footwear (going to be in the low 20's Celcius today) and my light cream handbag. For jewelry I'm wearing my silver wedding band and a pounded silver bracelet that was a gift from hubby a few years ago.

Hope this works together - what do you think? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

What do you think of these jeans?

I've been toying with the idea of getting a pair of patterned jeans so that I could wear Angie's refined casual MOTG formula on Casual Fridays and weekends. I have my black patent booties, leather jacket and navy sweater to round out the outfit (among a few other pieces that could be interchangeable).

These are available on eBay as I'm still sticking with my tight shopping budget and are Joe's "The Skinny". They are a blue on blue baroque pattern and I think they are beautiful.

I guess my question is whether or not you think this pattern could work on my short legs and what the sizing is like for Joe's as I've never tried them on.

The seller is offering these at a good price (I've done my price comparisons), new with tags and offers a full return/refund policy.

Would love your thoughts.

WIW: And it only took one year

I ordered this skirt and jacket at the 2012 NAS but never wore the skirt. When it arrived it was a bit too snug for my comfort level but was unavailable a size larger at the time. I kept it "just in case" but ended up gaining more weight and then couldn't even get it on.

So today is the debut of my "old" Rachel Roy tree print crepe skirt. I'm so glad I kept it!!! It fits beautifully now with even a tiny bit of room to spare. I've paired it with a simple black tank and the dark purple Amber Sun jacket.

To play up the black and white print in the front panel of the skirt, I chose my black and white ankle strap pointy toe shoes and my black and cream leather handbag. A swipe of my fall plum lipstick and my silver wedding ring and I'm ready to go.

What do you think? Does it all work together? as always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: To take MIL shopping

Taking my MIL to The Bay to buy underwear and pj's and also for me to try on a navy v-neck cashmere sweater from Lord & Taylor (remember I posted a v-neck cashmere sweater as a top 10 item for last fall but never found one?). Lord & Taylor cashmere is on sale at The Bay this weekend for 30% off and the new fall sweaters are out.

Am wearing my Wit & Wisdom skinny jeans, which are now not so skinny and my Gap mesh sleeve sweater in grey. BTW I deliberately shrunk both my grey and cream/white Gap mesh sleeve sweaters - they were seriously too big on me so put them in the dryer on warm and voila - now the perfect fit. Tucked my jeans into my Frye boots that I bought last year on eBay (my first eBay purchase) and topped it all off with a recently thrifted oxblood faux leather jacket. Normally I don't care for faux leather but this jacket has lovely cotton lining which seems to help the jacket feel less hot and more breathable.

Hope this all works together 'cause I'm heading out the door.

Later...

Can you help me with this plaid coat?

So bought this vintage coat a few months back from a vintage store because I fell in love with it's oversized, menswear-inspired, no collar, no button type of style. I think it fits right in with the current oversized coat trend. At the time I first showed it, the reviews were mixed and I'm ok with that. Angie liked it over the black sheath dress, as do I but thought the sleeves were a bit overwhelming.

This is where I need your keen eyes (and yes...I actually mean it - lol!). Pics 1, 2 and 3 show the sleeves as they are currently. And pics 4 and 5 are with them rolled under by approximately 3-4 inches.

So my questions are:

1. Do the sleeves need to be shortened from the original length?
2. If so, does the length in pics 4 and 5 work or do they need to be shorter still?
3. Do the sleeves need to be taken in to reduce the volume? Although that could change the integrity of the coat and the style.
4. Should I just chalk this item up to a bit of a "love mistake", pass it on and forget about it?

Thanks for any and all suggestions :)

WIW: Soft Neutrals

Today's outfit started with my Cameron BF's to which I paired one of my favourite pullovers. This sweater is just the perfect weight IMHO and drapes beautifully. I've added an Angie faux-tuck to show a wee bit of the snakeskin belt. For footwear I chose my beige Tom suede booties and my handbag gives a double dose of snakeskin as per Angie's handbag-belt bookending trick. When I head out the door, I'll add my white leather jacket. Jewelry is my gold wedding band and rose gold/black watch.

I like the soft colour palette in this outfit - it's soothing at the end of a hectic and tiring week.

What do you think? Does it all work together? As always, all comment/suggestions welcome.

K/R Theory Lanai

Last week I posted about whether or not the Theory Lanai jacket would work for me (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ect-jacket) and I ordered a brand new one from a lovely seller on eBay. It arrived today and I promptly threw it on over my outfit from work and then quickly tried a few stylings...."yes, dinner is coming....just one more quick picture".....

I'm not going to say too much about the jacket until after reading your thoughts but I will say that the quality is obvious...this jacket is beautifully made and the fabric is gorgeous and substantial. Plus the colour is the exact navy/dark blue I've been looking for.

The last photo is from the back and I realize the fit is not absolutely perfect. I will say however that blazers rarely fit me perfectly in the small of my back because I have a very prominent indent there. This is not a deal breaker for me as I am NOT on Team Back View.

So over to you...is THIS my navy blazer???

Gonna go feed the family before there's a revolt on - will check back with you in a bit :)
