WIW: And it only took one year

I ordered this skirt and jacket at the 2012 NAS but never wore the skirt. When it arrived it was a bit too snug for my comfort level but was unavailable a size larger at the time. I kept it "just in case" but ended up gaining more weight and then couldn't even get it on.

So today is the debut of my "old" Rachel Roy tree print crepe skirt. I'm so glad I kept it!!! It fits beautifully now with even a tiny bit of room to spare. I've paired it with a simple black tank and the dark purple Amber Sun jacket.

To play up the black and white print in the front panel of the skirt, I chose my black and white ankle strap pointy toe shoes and my black and cream leather handbag. A swipe of my fall plum lipstick and my silver wedding ring and I'm ready to go.

What do you think? Does it all work together? as always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: Amber Sun
Tank: Cleo Petite
Skirt: Rachel Roy
Shoes: RW&Co
Handbag: Danier Leather (thrifted)

I LOVE it with your new pumps! And good job Shannon....it doesn't matter how long it took, you are in the skirt and looking fabulous.

I love the shoes and the skirt on you. I think the jacket works, but I might like it better open or with the sleeves scrunched to break up the horizontal line of the jacket hem and sleeves (although you aren't standing around with your arms down at your sides all day).

Whoa - That skirt (and you) are completely gorgeous!  Way to go!

  • donnat replied 10 years ago

Lovely! You must be so happy the skirt fits so beautifully

  • Archer replied 10 years ago

Wow. I haven't been around much over past few months and this is the first time I have seen a WIW from you for ages.  You look really great. Fab legs!! The skirt and the sandals looks fab together.

They look so good that I have to say I think you could look even better with a different jacket.  I don't think it is the colour per se.  To my eye the jacket just hits you at the wrong spot.  You've covered up your waist line. It's a good outfit now but I think you and it could be great. A

The skirt with the shoes are fabulous but I also want to see it with a darker blazer that would continue the line of the skirt. Not that you don't look terrific as is. You do!

ETA I also love it with just the tank!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

    Oooh!! LOVE it!

That skirt was just lurking in your closet until you had the right footwear for it! RW&co to the rescue!

And congratulations on your hard work with the weight loss. Isn't that a fab feeling when the clothes that mocked us from the closet now slide on without a hitch?

Now, I must respectfully disagree with Archer. I absolutely adore this silhouette with the Amber Sun. To me, it is all kinds of wonderful. I don't know if it's the "child of the 80s" in me or if it is simply the residue of once having considered myself a pretty pear and the grass always being greener and all that -- but I positively adore a subtle IT or triangle shaped outfit, wider at shoulders and narrowing down without obvious waist definition. It's one of my favourite shapes.

Not to mention the fact that this jacket has a sort of retro charm that plays well against the modern skirt to my eye.

  • Sona replied 10 years ago

In contrast to Suz: I love the skirt and the tank and the silhouette they create. Because the skirt reads modern to me the jacket while it works could be substituted by the lanai ( I know the look would be mostly black in that case) or a more modern cut blazer. I would play with different topper options once you get home to see if you 'feel' another topper instead. You however stepped out of the house looking tres chic Madame!

Thank you for the comments ladies - it does indeed feel great to fit this skirt finally. I actually chose the Amber Sun jacket as a copycat to Angie's client's outfit when she debuted the Rachel Roy skirt (see pic below). I love the retro integrity of the jacket and unusual silhouette paired with this graphic black/white skirt.

I will definitely be trying it with other toppers though so no worries - I can see it with my Lanai jacket, both my black and white leather jackets, my purple leather jacket, etc. No shortage of options!

Love the outfit and that skirt is a beauty!

    That skirt! Those shoes!! LOVE!!!

I would love to see this skirt with your leather jackets.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Good grief. With the addition of the fresh trendy shoes - the outfit launches me into orbit. WOW. Killer.

  • Janet replied 10 years ago

Hey skirt twin! You are looking fan-freaking-tastic these days, and this outfit with those shoes in particular is just great.

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

Love this skirt, and the hoes with it.  Terrific copy cat!  YLF!!

  • viva replied 10 years ago

Love the skirt -- and with the shoes and bag it is just amazing. I love it most with the tank but it's also great with the jacket. It gives me sort of a day-to-evening feeling. Work in the jacket and then shed the jacket for drinks. You look gorgeous!

  • Wendi1984 replied 10 years ago

Love it! The shoes and bag are great with it! I like it better without the jacket.

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

Wow!  You are looking very fit these days, Ms. Shannon!  Love it!  And love the outfit, too, Ms. Purple Jacket Twin!!

  • Mo replied 10 years ago

Happy dance for getting to wear the skirt comfortably!!  I remember pining after it myself, until I realized it was too dressy for my life to justify the cost.  Love seeing all you ladies in it though!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Thank you all so, so much for the lovely comments. You have totally made my day :)

  • Amy replied 10 years ago

Love! I'm so excited for you to be able to wear that skirt now. Go girl!

  • replied 10 years ago

Oh my goodness! That skirt! Those shoes! Someone pass me the smelling salts. . . You look fabulous Shannon.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Keep 'em coming, Shannon!  I need inspiration, and I'm swear I'm going to pin this picture on your "old" and my "new" RR skirt hanging in my closet!  You look amazing!

All you YLFers don't know it yet, but Shannon gifted me with her larger RR skirt a couple of weeks ago.  It fits --- kinda --- if I were a streetwalker.  So, now I'm the one looking at it in my closet as I slip on my workout clothes in my quest for a healthier body.  Now, I'm not taking care of myself so I can wear a certain skirt --- but seeing Shannon in hers does help motivate me to lace up my sneakers!

The footwear is astonishingly fab!  I checked, and I can't find them in the US.  Sigh.  I love the choice of silhouette in the jacket, and I already scoped out the purple in my wardrobe as a natural pair with this amazing skirt.

  • kkards replied 10 years ago

wow, that skirt and those shoes, made for each other. i like the outfit as styled, but in my head i'm seeing it with your white leather.

  • ManidipaM replied 10 years ago

You better be doing that happy dance, Shannon. This is ludicrously, unspeakably perfect...I wonder how you manage to get so perfectly coordinated.

The skirt and your hair were surely made for each other... ditto the shoes and skirt. The bag is sort of a negative of the shoes (pardon, my age is showing) and somewhere in heaven was partnered with those specs! This is a whole other class of matchy-matchy.

    Beeyootiful!

  • replied 10 years ago

It was definitely worth the wait. You look smashing!

  • Scarlet replied 10 years ago

Such a special skirt! So happy for you that you can wear it now. It looks amazing the way you styled it. To be very honest the bag plus the shoes is very matchy matchy at least in the photo. In the close up I see they are more distinct. I would go with your feeling on that.

ETA: looking again at the detailed shot I think it's all brilliant--matchy-matchy-good. I love the blazer pairing, btw.

  • JulieJohn replied 10 years ago

Wow! I especially love this without the jacket, because you look so trim and fresh. I remember that skirt, it is so unusual and looks just great on you. Pining for your SHOES !

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

Can't begin to tell you how much I love this - YL AMAZINGLY F.

  • K. Period. replied 10 years ago

Speechless. Just...speechless. I love that RR skirt so much (I loved it to start with and that love is unabated) and the outfit is completely fab. You look gorgeous, Shannon!

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

I love this skirt Sooooo much:)  The outfit is beautiful and the new shoes...wow.

pssst... when the skirt gets too big for you... you know where you can send it;)  Just kidding :)

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

WOW Shannon, I think this skirt and the shoes are a match made in heaven :)
