WIW: Black & Olive

Even though it was very hot yesterday, the air had the slight scent of autumn and there are a few leaves falling off the trees already. So my outfit today is a wee nod to late summer in terms of the colour palette.

I started my outfit today with my trusty black sheath dress (I can't imagine EVER having a wardrobe without one) to which I added my military-inspired olive green cotton jacket. I love the asymmetrical style and brass details of this jacket. For footwear, I chose the two-tone olive Fluevog pumps so kindly gifted to me from Suz. They are a fabulous combination of adding colour through footwear while still working as a neutral. And for my handbag, I went with my snakeskin cream/olive/taupe satchel (from last year's NAS) and I'm wearing my gold mesh bangle and gold wedding band for jewelry.

I'm happy with how this all looks together - what do you think? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: Miley Cyrus (thrifted)
Dress: Banana Republic
Shoes: John Fluevog
Handbag: Elliott Lucca
Bangle: Michael Kors

Love the way those shoes work in this outfit. I agree about having a good black dress that works for you, that is something I couldn't do without. The simplicity and ease of this outfit are what make it so fab.

    Really nice, Shannon!

I'm very happy with how all this looks together, too! This is truly effortless chic. The palette is really appropriate, and I love how the shoes and bag add light and texture. Great job, Shannon!

Okay. This has to be in the top three favorite outfits of yours, Shannon. Or maybe it's particularly one of your outfits I'd most want to duplicate for myself? I love this. Love the sexy, slightly boyish color palette. Love the silhouette and the military jacket (and I'm not surprised Miley C. has a clothing line, but that I'd really like something from it). The bag just goes especially great with this in an unexpected way. It's such an awesome, flattering outfit. I'm gonna favorite this.

This looks wonderful on you and perfect for late summer. I agree about the black sheath dress workhorse. How cheeky is that double breasted military jacket worn open! And the fab shoes and bag are modern and lady-like. You have a winner.

This is a very chic look.  LOVE that olive military jacket on you.

    (Yay for fall weather!)

Great combination and great shoes from Suz!

Deborah - I would love to find a long sleeved black v-neck sheath style dress for winter. It would be nice to have one that wouldn't require layering with a jacket (since this one is sleeveless).

Ingunn - I'm glad the bag lightens the outfit. I was worried that the black and olive may be a bit dark.

Mochi - believe me, nobody was as surprised as me when I fell in love with a Miley Cyrus item! In fact, I was almost embarrassed to admit that's whose clothing line this is from. But hey...leave no stone unturned right?

Thank you Ceit, Joy, Nancylee and Shevia :)

Hey, I think I need your military jacket, based on my capsule exercise yesterday!

Just joking. But it's a heck of a lot better than mine.

Love seeing the Vogs come out to play!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Ha Suz! And this military jacket is extremely lightweight - perfect for fall!

How do you wear so many colors and depths/saturations of color so well?  This combination suits you very well.  Flattering, simple, but interesting, with detail in the jacket and shoes.

Hope you have an amazing day!

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

The jacket has great details (I'm also surprised that I like something from Miley Cyrus) and really looks good with the dress.  Love the shoes and bag as well.

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Gah, love this! Some of my favorite colors, and the fits are so nice. Way to keep us guessing with the Miley Cyrus jacket!

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

I want that jacket.  I love the way you've dressed it up here!

My favourite colour combination!  You look very chic.  And I have those shoes too!  Mine are black with ivory straps.  Tell me, how often do you wear them?  I just love the look of those shoes, but something about the two-tone things says "party" to me, so I end up never wearing them during the day.  (They're good dancing shoes, though).  The contrast isn't quite so dramatic between the olive and taupe straps, which maybe makes them better for daytime wear?

You look great, Shannon. I didn't expect to love olive for you, but you're just glowing! I'm happy that Suz's Fluevogs have a wonderful home with you.

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

So perfect!  I love the way the fab shoes, bag and jacket all work together to make it sing!

An outfit truly worthy of your style.

The storm clouds of desire for a utility jacket like this have been gathering around me for months. If I fall over one this great that's petite and grey, dark cocoa, berry, or teal, I will be overcome.

I love the mix here TS - funky shoes, classic black dress & casual jacket -. YLF :)

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

YLF!!! :) Enjoy the rest of the summer!

Fab matchy-matchy bookending with the military jacket and Suz's shoes. Have I seen you in olive before? Looks fab with black and cream against your skin tone, Shannon. Adding in the snake skin is a stroke of olive genius.

  • Jjsloane replied 10 years ago

OMG I am loving you in this. So sophisticated and modern with the military jacket (Miley Cyrus - seriously??) You have renewed my desire for a reptile print bag.

  • Raisin replied 10 years ago

I love olive and black in combo, and you did it perfectly!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

I'm chuckling to myself about how much y'all are liking my $5 thrift store Miley jacket! I can honestly say I haven't seen a new one in stores that I like as much.

Angie - this is the only olive thing in my wardrobe. I'm glad you like it for me.

    Thanks everyone :)

  • RunnerChick replied 10 years ago

Love this combo - olive and black is so sophisticated, and the shoes and bag really kick it up several notches. This is such a great idea for accessorizing a black dress, and I am tempted to try a copy cat. I have a Karen Kane long sleeved black dress and an urban outfitters' olive twill moto. The final effect will look different, I think, because the pieces are different, and I do not have the cool shoes or bag....

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Oh try it RunnerChick - I absolutely love black and olive together. You never know until you try!

  • AJ replied 10 years ago

I've favorited this FAB outfit! Luv the olive and black together. That $5 jacket was an awesome find. I look forward to seeing your remixes with it. Looks like snake is the new camouflage. :)
