WIW: Stripes & Black Slouchies for the Cold

It is bitterly, bitterly cold here today - I had originally planned to wear a dress to work but forget that...covered up and warmth is the key today.

I started with my Lord & Taylor slouchy black trousers and then paired those with my Lord & Taylor merino wool striped hi-lo voluminous sweater. I was concerned that slouchy + volume = shapeless and huge but to my pleasant surprise, these two pieces work well together and I'm happy with the look.

To pull out the cream stripe in the sweater, I'm using my black/cream handbag and for footwear, my Doc Marten Marcie's.

I got my hair trimmed Saturday afternoon and we went with a super short slightly chunky pixie - hope you like it!

So how does this all look to your eyes? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Sweater & trousers: Lord & Taylor
Boots: Doc Marten
Handbag: Danier Leather (thrifted)

I love the colours in this sweater - they really suit you. I'd probably wear it with a slimmer bottom, something like a black pencil skirt, but I hear ya about staying warm!

Well at the risk of being a total bore, I love it! Something about the shape and stripes on this sweater just work perfectly to my eye, and I am already an established fan of your slouchy trousers. I love your hair too!

You have been rockin' that slouchy trouser look lately, girlfriend! Love the purse and boots, too!

Slouchy/oversized with horizontal stripes, whodathunkit? This looks great Shannon!

I think this sweater is brilliant! And I think slouchy horizontal stripes are incredibly flattering and somehow make volume work everywhere. You look terrific. Love the new hair, too!

I love it! I almost bought that sweater too (now I'll have to go back) I got it in solid black (it's so soft isn't it? and the drape is perfect for not adding volume) This looks fun, cozy, fashionable and YOU!

Wonderfully cozy, but still fashion forward. Love the silhouette. This outfit isn't extremely oversized, which gives drape and ease without overwhelming you.

    Have a great day!

    You are ready for 2013!

I LOVE your style, Shannon. So perfect!

Shannon, first off, love your new cut, adorable! Perfect outfit for a cold, blustery day. I think horizontal stripes work surprisingly well in an oversized shape, makes them appear more fluid I think. One of my favourite sweaters is completely boxy and striped, yet it looks so flattering on.

Great look for you, yet again!

Jeanne - I love this sweater - soft and comfy, but not overly hot you know? They also had this striped version with the stripes in orange, camel and cream. It's on sale now at a pretty deep discount too....alas, I am not shopping these days...it would look great with my portabello mushroom skirt though...

Shevia - these trousers are right up in there in my best 2012 purchases. I'm so glad I didn't discount them completely because of the hem and had Wonder Woman lengthen and taper them. A good seamstress can really make more things possible.

It does seem that horizontal stripes can work on a voluminous sweater IF the fabrication is soft and drapey - would you agree?

    Thanks ladies!
