WIW: Thanks to Shevia & Joy

The last time I wore this skirt, I had mentioned it was becoming an orphan. Shevia suggested I pair the skirt with a bright coloured solid top and taupe shoes and Joy further suggested my Cleo orange light knit sweater.

Well those ladies seem to know a thing or two because I LOVE this combination!!! I paired my taupe knit pencil skirt with my orange light knit sweater but had to swap my taupe pointy toe pumps for my Boutique 9 laceless peep toe oxfords. I have a tiny sore on the top of my right big toe where the pumps touch and I knew the shoes would just irritate the heck out of it. But I think these shoes work as well.

For my handbag, I went with my snakeskin satchel (waving to bag twin MaryK) and jewelry is a gold ring and watch.

Happiness factor in this outfit is extremely high and I'm definitely going to keep the taupe skirt now. Thanks Shevia and Joy :)

So what do you think? Does the combination look good to your eyes? Anything you would tweak? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Skirt & sweater: Cleo Petite
Shoes: Boutique 9
Handbag: Elliott Lucca
Watch and ring: thrifted

Love this outfit, Shannon! Your legs are so shapely and trim, and the skirt length and heel height ( and colour) are working for you. The bag is perfect.
This is a very chic outfit. I can believe the happiness factor!

Yes! This is great. I read some where that orange works with any shade of brown and it sure does here! I am not sure if the skirt waist is too high for this... but I might consider a partial tuck. Super bag!

Those ladies know *your* wardrobe for sure :-)

You look great Shannon. The pattern/textural interest of the bag seals it all.

WOW! That turned out fabulously. The reptile bag is perfect with that skirt and the shoes drool-worthy. I'm humbled that you tried the suggestion.

That's a fantastic color combo! I'm always in awe when people remember specific items they can suggest, I can't keep track of who owns what at all.

Wow, this looks awesome!  Very simple and classy.

  • Eliza replied 10 years ago

Shannon- very classic and yet today.  Love this on you!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

It looks terrific, Shannon! Absolutely stunning.

Perfect save for that skirt! It looks really good with that orange. I like your peeptoes, but the other pumps would be good too.

I love this, it looks stunning on you!

This works really well, but the bag makes it 'WOW'! That is such a pretty, melon-y orange on my monitor. Lovely for summer! I'm so glad you hung on to the skirt and listened to your personal stylists. ;)

Carla - it's funny you mention the skirt length 'cause I wasn't wearing it very much the last while because it felt too short to me. A simple let down of the hem half an inch and now it feels just right!

Sarah - unfortunately the waist is indeed too high on the skirt for a semi tuck, otherwise I'd be all over that.

Ornella - doesn't it amaze you when people remember your individual wardrobe items? I have such a terrible memory that I'm never able to provide specific suggestions like that.

Joy - thank you so much for the suggestion :) what should I wear tomorrow??? - lol!

Astrid - I can never remember either. And then I feel kind of bad about it because I don't want anyone thinking it's because I don't pay attention. I just can't remember.

Elizabeth, Eliza, Suz and Betti - thank you very much.

Ceit - I think I would have preferred the ladylike vibe of the pumps - darned toe :(

Claire - this bag was one of my best NAS purchases from last year. And do you think I should hire Shevia and Joy on an ongoing basis???

ETA: janeabc - cross posted with you! "look so young" - ooooohhhhh, you just made my day :)

I think the orange top looks great like this.  I tend to struggle with orange because I have lots of black in my closet and I'm worried I'll look like Halloween.  I love those shoes and I may try looking for something similar for this fall.

This really works to my eye. It's a lovely colour combination. The accessories work well with the skirt and sweater too. It makes me happy to look at it, so win, win :)

  • Mochi replied 10 years ago

Oh, heavenly awesomeness! Who would have thought to juxtapose those two colors, but they look made for each other. Earthy and bright. And a clean, simple silhouette. Of course the bag does its part by adding the lustre, texture and pattern. One of my favorites!

  • Debbie replied 10 years ago

Love tis looks. The accessories work well together and you look happy!

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Don't you love it when a new combination emerges from the closet as a clear winner?  All the better than other YLFers thought of it!  That's the beauty of the forum.

This is perfect for your fully-evolved summer work style and I like seeing the peeps rather than the pumps in July.  They're a little more relaxed which suits the weave of the sweater, I think.

  • Carole replied 10 years ago

One word, GORGEOUS! The orange top is perfect with the skirt.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Sara - I also try not to pair orange with black because of Halloween, but it is a lovely color combination isn't it? I've had these shoes for a couple of years now and they have been a fabulous neutral summer shoe. I now can't imagine my wardrobe without at least one nude/taupe shoe.

Mochi - the simple silhouette of this outfit really pleased me as well so I appreciate that you commented on that.

Beth Ann - when a combination gets suggested by another Fabber and it works, I always wonder why I never thought of it before. And I didn't think about peeking toes being more summery. Great point!

Thanks Diane, Debbie and Carole :)

Really happy colors.  The colors and silhouettes are both very flattering so this one gets a 10 from me!
