K/R VC Tube Skirt

I had some pj's to return to The Bay and when Glory posted about the VC striped tube skirt being on serious mark down, I knew what I was going to exchange the pj's for.

For the purpose of K/R, I have pinned the skirt up by about 4.5 inches as it is ridiculously long on me - it comes to about 4 inches above my ankle! So please disregard any puckering of the fabric at the "faux" hem line.

These are just a few quick stylings I thought of to try out the skirt. I would want it to be primarily for casual wear, but am thinking it is something that I could wear also to work with kitten heels and a blazer.

So here are my specific questions:

1. Does it fit my style?
2. Can you see it working in my casual capsule?
3. Would it also be wearable to my business casual office?
4. Does it fit well?
5. Does it flatter?
6. What of these stylings work to your eye?

And of course the final question, keep or return?

Thanks all :)

P.S. Please disregard the see-through sweater in #7 - I would of course wear a thin cami underneath.

Keeeeeeeeep. Oh how I wish my size was available! I am tempted to order the XL and try to sew it smaller!

  • replied 10 years ago

    Uhh, I love 10-11
    1. Yes
    2. Yes
    3. Yes
    4. I would buy it a bit more snug but yes, I think it fits well
    5. Yes
    6. Love 1-2, 10-11 but they all work.

    And Keep!

  • replied 10 years ago

It fits well, it is very versatile, I could easily see this dresses up or in yor casual capsule. I really like it with the chambray and also the grey top!

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

Keep please. It looks great on you.  # 11 is too fab :)

  • Mary Beth (formerly LBD) replied 10 years ago

It plays soooo nicely with what you've already got, and you look amazing in it!    Keep it and get it hemmed to the length you've pinned it.    YLF!

3, 5, 8 were my favorites.  I must be in a monochrome kind of mood.

  • DonnaF replied 10 years ago

You didn't show a profile view, but this appears to fit and flatter you quite well.  Until I saw #7, I didn't realize how short-waisted you are; I never would have guessed by how you hide it!  I think this would be appropriate for your office but might be more casual than you usually dress. I like the size of these stripes on you; the version with the wider stripes I don't think would be your style.  Hope you keep it!

  • Glory replied 10 years ago

Hi Shannon- great score on the skirt. Sorry Ceit that you didn't get one - you could try the xl and taper it like you mentioned. I will keep my eyes peeled for you - you never know if one might come back in. Are you after a s or m?
I really like it for you both casual and office wear. I think it can work for your office - Fridays for sure. It flatters and I know how soft and comfy it is.
Shannon some of the ladies mentioned they didn't actually hem it but rather cut it as they edge is unfinished.

  • replied 10 years ago

Either a S or M. I think I am between sizes for it. I don't have a Bay so I am stuck with online only.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Ceit - I think an XL would be a lot to sew smaller for you. I'm wearing a large so you would positively swim in an XL.

Zap - I thought #11 could work for a summer casual date night. What do you think? I tried on the medium and it did fit better in the waist (this size is a wee bit big in the waist) but I felt it was just too body con in the booty and belly area. I'm more comfy in this size.

    Caro - another #11 lover I see!

LBD - nothing wrong with monochromatic :)

DonnaF - here's an added pic that kind of shows the side. I took it quick when I took the other pictures. Does that give a bit of an idea? I totally agree that the wider stripes would be over powering on me.

Glory - looking at the raw edge I think I would probably just cut it rather than hem. I think an actual hem might add a bit of bulk to the bottom, although Suz had hers hemmed and it looks fine.

Thanks for the feedback. This is very helpful.

    Are you KIDDING me? KEEEEEEEP! I like it in 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, and 11!

  • Susie replied 10 years ago

Yes yes yes Keep! It looks great on you and it works well with your wardrobe. I like 1,3,5,6 and 9!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

    Surely you jest. KEEP!!!!!!

    It looks fantastic on you!!!!

  • FlorenceFearne replied 10 years ago

Uh, I vote you totally get rid of this skirt immediately... and mail it to me because it's the cutest thing EVER!!! Yeah, I'll settle down now. I have a bit of a thing for black and white stripes. :)

The cut is so flattering, and stripes are one of those magical prints that can look professional and yet also look great with a comfy tee and flats on the weekend. My personal favorites are #3, #5, and #8 but I think it looks nice with everything you've shown.

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Let's just say this: you made me go to Nordie's website and put this skirt into my cart! This is how god it looks!
You said you got size L - what is your usual  size in bottoms? I am not sure which size do I need...

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Claire, Susie, Suz and Florence - you are all making me laugh :) Love your enthusiasm.

I guess it's a keeper then. I will confess I realized while I was coming up with a few styles that I have no solid coloured sleeveless tops like Angie included in her casual tube skirt formula. This is a wardrobe hole identified - so my question now is do I see if I can pick up a few of these types of tops so that I can wear this skirt to its full potential for the rest of the summer? There are huge summer sales on now so I may be able to pick up 2-3 for very little. What do y'all think?

  • Isabel replied 10 years ago

wwhhhhhyyyyyyyyy is this even a K/R ?   It should be Keep or Keep or maybe Keep.

I say kkkkkeeeeepppppp.  But I am not sure.   ;-)

I do know that I am off to buy one or two right now.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

    Sveta - cross posted!

Glad you like it :) I will note that I also tried on the black with white polka dot version, which is a slightly thicker fabrication and if it goes on this type of deep discount, will grab that one as well.

I wear both a 12 and 14 in bottoms, depending on the brand. What's great Sveta is you wouldn't need to shorten yours. It would look fantastic on you as is.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

    I keep cross posting!

Hey Isabel - lol! Let the VC striped skirt frenzy begin. See what you started Glory?

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

You know what funny: Nordstrom has it in petite as well and it says: "length 26" regular and petite". So what is the difference>:-)
Shannon, how much does it cost on sale at The Bay now? I am trying to decide if I should go and check it out or just order from Nordstrom as I will be going down there for NAS  in two weeks anyway...And how much is the polka dot - is it this one?

  • rae replied 10 years ago

KEEP! I try to suggest these skirts to everyone. I love how they taper and are so comfy!

  • Isabel replied 10 years ago

Sveta, right now if you order via the phone, they are two or more for $29.50 each.

I am ordering the polka dot ( which is an animal print ) and the stripes in about 10 minutes!  YAY !

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

How can the regular and petite be the same length? Isn't that kind of defeating the purpose of having two options???

The skirt was $27.44 at The Bay. Yes, that's the polka dot one. Loved it! It was still full price at somewhere around $80 (I can't remember exactly).

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Rae - keep suggesting these to people! If someone with my stature and tummy can wear them, ANYONE can!

Isabel - great prices - happy shopping!

  • rae replied 10 years ago

That has got to be a typo. The petites are significantly shorter than the regular. At least 3", I think. We can tell a mile a way when someone has put a P in the regular rack.

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

That's a great price! Were there any other colors or patterns or this was the only one?

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

At The Bay, the only one for that price was the one I bought. The plain black and the black/white polka dot were full price.

Rae - relieved to hear that the petite is shorter. I wish we had the petite here but this will be easy enough to shorten so no biggie.

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

That is what I was thinking - what the point? Rae, you better make them correct the typo on he site!:-)

  • shedev replied 10 years ago

Keep Shannon, you rock this skirt and it will play well in your closet.

  • Glory replied 10 years ago

The Bay here didn't actually have them in the store. I did order it but sadly ordered too large and now they only have xl. I really need to pick up my online shopping game and order both sizes. I may keep it anyway. They have the polka dot one but at full price - it is online and in the store. They do not have any others.
However, they are so nice I think it might be worth the splurge. I would consider it in black if they had it.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Glory - my local Bay still had a few in the black. Did you want me to see if they have your size?

I totally agree about the polka dot - it was gorgeous.

  • replied 10 years ago

I think that outfit would be perfect on a colder summer night, I agree.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

Just throwing in my two cents - KEEP! Do you hear me shouting? KEEP! You look fantastic in all versions.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Keep! I could also see you wearing this with your black and white bomber and white blazer. Your tee with the big blue flower might be fun too. Now I want one and I'm probably saturated with pencil skirts for my life style. But this is so tempting!

  • sarah replied 10 years ago

Awesome on you, Shannon - PERFECT for your style. FYI, I "cut" mine this morning. It was so helpful to have stripes to guide me ; ). It came out very nicely, thank you very much, and sure beat hemming!

  • Nadya replied 10 years ago

Well, definitely keep! I'd love to see how it looks pinned at more of a midi length. Midi is such a fun, convenient length - I always feel more free to move in a slightly longer skirt and it can be flattering if the fit is right. I know you're petite, so maybe I'm out of mine to suggest a longer length though? Or you just know you don't care for it?

Regardless, wear the heck out out of this lovely!

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Shannon did you order your size in petite or regular? Apologies if this is answered above but I had a bit too much house wine last night. Anyway I LOVE it on you and hope I will feel the same when I get mine ;-)!

  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago

    Keep!:-)

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

No question! It's a keep. Versatile and useful ;)

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 10 years ago

Wow  Love it Shannon.  I was not expecting great things when I read tube skirt but it looks great.  I don't think there is much better than a well made knit in the right fabric and this is bang on.

I am very tempted to go look for one for me.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Zap - thanks for the date night outfit validation.

Karie - stop yelling at me - lol!

Joy - oh yes, I can definitely see it with the bomber and my white blazer. I didn't think of my big flower tee. It's actually sitting in the purge pile right now 'cause I wasn't sure about it but I'm going to pull it out and try with the skirt. Thank you. BTW I also tried it with the orange Cleo knit sweater from yesterday's outfit and that worked really well too.

Sarah - I think I'm just going to cut mine as well. Those stripes will definitely make handy guide lines.

Nadya - I have no problem wearing a midi even though I'm short. Maybe I'll play with the length a bit with pins and see what I think. Since it's primarily a hot weather skirt though, I'm wondering if the shorter length might be more comfy for running around in the heat?

Shevia - our local Bay only has the skirt in the regular length so that's what I have. But it won't be a problem to cut it shorter. I know you're going to look fab in yours!

lyn67 and Deborah - thank you.

Dianthus - I definitely had concerns about a knit tube skirt on my figure, but it's kind of an amazing skirt. Worth checking out.

  • Lantana replied 10 years ago

    Shannon! This is fab!
I've been trawling Nordstrom's sale all night and keep on going back to these skirts. The freight is too hefty for me sadly but for you gals in the north they are a wonderful buy.
I too thought it odd for the petite and regular to be the same length.
Going back to your post, I think you have styled the skirt so well, my favourite being the denim shirt with the dipped hem.

  • goldenpig replied 10 years ago

Keep! And yes to all of the above! My faves are 1,3,5, and 10-11!

  • krishnidoux replied 10 years ago

    LOVE!

    My favourites:
    11 - 5 - 6/9 - 1 - 4

Absolutely lovely, and great, great outfits.

  • Debra replied 10 years ago

    A KEEPER :)

  • Elizabeth P replied 10 years ago

KEEP!  So versitile!  Only option I didn't care for was #4, not flattering on you.
And yes, I need one too.  Just not sure when I'll be able to get to the Bay... Monday maybe.
I can also look for sizes... Ciet, what did you need?

  • replied 10 years ago

I would probably be a S or M. I have tried a M on before and it was a bit big, but I could tailor the waist. I don't know how bodycon the S would be but I would risk it. I would only be interested in the stripes. Thank you!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

I also want you to keep. But I'm thinking longer and more tapered like a true midi - which you wear so well. What do you think about that idea?

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Angie - it's funny that both you and Nadya mentioned a midi length 'cause that's actually what my hubby said too. I think the skirt is probably too long as it is, although maybe it isn't. Perhaps I should post pics of the skirt its true full length and see what you and others think and go from there?

Isn't it strange how petite me wears a midi? Who knew!

  • Glory replied 10 years ago

Now I am curious not only about the length but about more tapered. I am wondering if you need to try it in a size down to get the tapered look or would that occur naturally with adding the length as the garment tapers somewhat?

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Glory - in its full length, the skirt is quite tapered on me. As the skirt gets shorter, the tapering is lost.

  • Elizabeth P replied 10 years ago

    Post another (full length) pic!

  • Glory replied 10 years ago

ah makes sense. well I will wait and see because I have the same skirt and am the same height as you :) I am undecided currently about k/r but not because I don't love it, I am not sure it makes sense for my wardrobe given my activities etc. Probs wouldnt get much usage

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Will do that tonight Elizabeth - I'm more than curious now too to see if I should leave it full length or just a wee bit of shortening.

  • Nadya replied 10 years ago

Shannon, I hadn't thought of the summer factor! Our summers are so relatively mild it didn't occur to me.
