WIW: Taupe & Pink

Good morning my lovelies!

Today's outfit started with my taupe skirt (waving hi to skirt twin Suz!). I added my taupe/cream/pink silk blend tee and then for even more colour, topped it with my magenta blazer. For footwear, I'm wearing my taupe/olive booties and grabbed my snakeskin handbag which has both cream and taupe tones in it.

I hope a pink blazer isn't too summery looking? For some reason, I consider pink more of a warm season colour.

What do you think? Colours and proportions work ok? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Blazer: Jacob
Tee: Anne Klein
Skirt: Cleo Petites
Boots: Clarks
Handbag: Elliot Lucca
Microfishnets: Hue

This is a very cute combo. The taupe and pink are lovely together. The little hints of pink in the top tie everything in so well. You look lovely.

Something about this outfit really fascinates me. I find it interesting, in the good sense of the meaning. If I were to see you in a coffee shop, I'd probably sneak looks and think "I could never do that, but it looks great on her." It's not a color combination I'm used to seeing, but I like it.

I'll be curious to hear the responses about the jacket color, because I was looking at a similar color jacket the other day and wondering the same thing.

I really like this! Yay for the T and skirt -- I thought of that right away when you posted them separately. The blazer is the perfect thing to tie them together.

I think it does look a little summery to my eye, but you certainly don't look badly dressed for the season.

Perfect! Just the right hue to brighten a dreary October day (at least this is what we are having here today...)
I am really envious at times how well you can wear blinding brights: they just overwhelm me even though I like them a lot...

Shannon you are not scared of colors are you :)...
    I love this outfit :)

I love it, skirt twin!! And, if you look at my WIW post from yesterday, you'll see that pink and taupe is a combination I've been trying, too. Actually, my top is a bit more magenta than pink, but same idea.

I love the way the jacket picks up the pink flecks in the top and ties everything together here. It's gorgeous on you!

I do agree that my initial thought about pink (and fuchsia and magenta) was that it was too "spring/summer" like. But on reflection I've decided that's just our old prejudice talking -- and ruling out pink for fall/ winter is a bit like ruling out white for that season. Just too big a generalization. Paired with other autumn colours like this, it feels natural and nicely transitional.

ETA: Shannon, I wrote up an Ann Taylor report so check the threads if you want to see it! Info there for you.

I've decided that even though I consider pink a warm weather colour, the weight of the jacket is substantial so I'm going to go with it!

Suz - off to see your WIW from yesterday. I'm afraid I'm a bit behind in reading.

Woot! This totally works! And I don't believe I've seen those fabulous booties yet; they are perfect with the skirt. I have the same niggling feelings about pinks in the fall, but I think I need to get over them. What's more modern than stomping all over the old "rules" for dressing? And October is breast cancer awareness month anyway. All the flight attendants and pilots of my husband's airline are wearing pink ties, scarves and shirts this month to promote awareness, so I've been seeing a lot of pink out there! These are great colors on you, and the fabrication of your blazer is just right for the season. Enjoy your outfit today because you look fab! :)

    Great point, Claire!!

Ha! We are doing a positive public service wearing pink!!!

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

This is a great combination. You really know how to mix it up!

  • celia replied 11 years ago

Love the outfit, jacket twin ;)
I was also thinking about if the color was too springy and in fact,I just store away the trench in the same color .
I will be wearing the blazer for functions indoor(along with my teal blazer) during winter.

Ooh, great outfit! I live the pink with the taupe. The taupe makes the outfit look fallish, I think. I don't think you look summery at all!

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

This looks so fresh and pretty - I wouldn't sweat the pink in fall issue too much - besides we're "transitioning" into fall, right? And I bet MaryK wears fever pink all year round : )

  • Sara L. replied 11 years ago

I love the color combination! Those booties look great on you too. I have such a hard time finding booties that fit close at the ankle and I'm always jealous of those who find a pair that fit. I have several pink sweaters and wear them all winter long so I think pink is perfectly appropriate for winter.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Taupe is awesome! It works just like gray to tone down brights, but it's... well, it's taupe! Love the pattern mix here!

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

LOVE the pink blazer! It works really well with the taupe, and the whole outfit is fantastic.

In fact, if I had a blazer this color, I would be wearing it today. It would go perfectly with my skirt, and in fact I was bemoaning the fact that I did not have a blazer that matched (am wearing a cropped cardi instead).

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Unexpected and fabulous! Have we seen those booties before? They are so YOU!

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

This is great! All the subtle details make for one fab, put together look.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

I bought the booties at the end of May off Amazon and have only worn them once (just to show them to you all) so I wouldn't expect anyone to remember them. They are lined and much too hot for summer which is why I haven't worn them. But they are perfect now and I'm absolutely thrilled with how comfortable they are.

Thanks for the lovely words ladies - glad the pink is working out!

  • JulieJohn replied 11 years ago

Shazam! One of my favorites yet from you, and that's saying a lot because I love all your looks. This is in my inspiration file. The boots make me cry tears of joy.

  • rachylou replied 11 years ago

Ok. I 'fess up. 'Taupe and Pink' did not sound good to me... but this is a great! combo! You got the perfect shades. Nice, deep, saturated color.

  • moira replied 11 years ago

Taupe is such a great neutral. I wore my taupe dress today with a black, brown and cream leopard AT sweater that I bought at a consignment store last week, a black belt and burgundy booties. YOU, Shannon have inspired me to wear the booties with dresses and I am really liking the look.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

    Heh. I remembered those booties.

<puffs up chest with YLF pride, giving herself the momentary illusion of a figure>

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

    *wild applause for Suz*

Julie - I'm flattered that you would put this in your inspiration file :)

Moira - wear those booties with a dress girl! It is positively liberating!

    Thanks everyone!

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

Shannon, you look fab as ever and this outfit is so well thought out. Somehow, I feel your true personality always shows through your outfits which very few people can do.

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Oh, WOW! That is such a pretty combination! Colour AND proportion wise. The skirt is just the right length and I so love how you paired it with taupe booties. T-shirt is fun. Colours are very fresh and bring a new twist to autumn: vibrant, spunky. You look dynamic and fun, yet very professional. This is so perfect I'm blinded!
