WIW: Maggy London meets an animal as per Angie

Last time I wore my black/white Maggy London dress, Angie suggested that animal print footwear would work well with it. Because I like to be a good student, I popped on my animal print Doc Danielle's with the dress this time. I really like the unexpected shoe choice and pre-YLF I never would have worn this - I would have gone with the safe and predictable black pump.

To further play up the brown/rust tones in the shoes, I've added my Fossil re-issue vintage handbag.

And because it's now coat weather, I thought I'd add a shot of my outerwear each day (if I remember!). Today's coat is a boucle knit vintage jacket (no label unfortunately).

So what do you think? Colours and proportions work to your eye? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Dress: Maggy London
Shoes: Doc Martens Danielle
Handbag: Fossil
Jacket: vintage
Microfishnets: Hue

I like the pattern mixing, very fun and fresh looking. I like the chunkier shoe too, it's unexpected.

    fab combo :)

Shannon, you and Mary K are both advertisements for the benefits of a larger closet containing a multitude of choices. YLF has helped you refine your pairings, but you couldn't do it in the first place without these fab items! I love this mix; it is totally unexpected. And I love that you can wear the Docs with a dress so well (feeling a WEE bit sad for myself on that score...) and I LOVE your idea to show your outerwear as well. Yippee!

We are not quite in coat season, but will be, soon. I (and my photographer) are not up to the daily photos, but when I do my winter shots I promise to add the outer layer as well. I think it is good education for all us cold weather girls. The coat is, after all, what many people see us in!

You look super stylish in this! I wouldn't have chosen that combination (on my own) but really love it and think you look really fashion forward! You *are* a good student!!

It's a very funky look, actually. It's fun.

    So fun!

You are one huggable bundle of stylish happiness, Shannon. What a pleasure to view your outfits.

Love it/ Those boots are wonderful!

My goodness you are inspiring, Shannon! I love how this took a few tweaks away from predictable, which makes it look gorgeously fresh and interesting and wonderful!

I admit I'm having a tough time with this, just because there is pattern mixing as well as a daintier, lightweight wrap dress with a chunky, heavy shoe. My eye is not used to it, though it feels better with the coat. I will have to see if my eye adjusts!

Love all the varied neutrals coming together, though.

Go to the top of the class - dress looks great & fab pattern mixing.

Funky! I don't think this is as fab as you, I'm sorry! I like the concept, but maybe the dress is too crisp and the shoes are too weighty to combine. Probably just me, I never got the dresses-with-combat-boots pairing either. I must admit you have ignited my curiosity. I want to come play in your closet with you!

You are a very good student because the whole ensemble is fantastic. I just want to add that you look gorgeous in body-con dresses. They are my favorite outfit on you.

When the student is ready Angie appears - I think that's how it goes.
Love the shoes & coat with the dress.
The only thing I'd question is the bag - I don't think it looks bad but I'm not loving it.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Thank you everyone! I agree there could be some further tweaking with this ensemble but I had fun with it all the same!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

I really love the pattern mix here, but have to say the warm shoes are throwing me a bit but only because of your amazing hair! The dress and hair and coat are all cool and for some reason the shoes don't quite sit right with me. I think I'd prefer your Saras and a colorful purse, but clearly I am in the minority :} Still a fab outfit!

  • christy replied 11 years ago

Goodness gracious but that dress is amazing on you! I have to admit that I'm having a tough time with the pattern mix but I couldn't figure out why and I think I agree with Aida's take that it might be because of the warmer tone of the shoes. Love her suggestion of the Saras with it!
