WIW: Slouchy & Houndstooth

Well back to work after my day off yesterday...so I started with my black slouchy L&T trousers, paired with a red cowl neck tank and topped with my cropped houndstooth jacket. A simple black leather belt is keeping up my trousers and my accessories are my gold wedding band and a vintage black & gold bracelet. For my handbag today I'm using my black and red Kate Spade and shoes are my trusty Clark heels.

Picture everything with my red puffer and boots on when I head out the door - it's nasty out there!

What do you think? Does a cropped jacket work with these trousers? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: Simply Manakin Petite (thrifted)
Tank: Jessica (Sears)
Trousers: Lord & Taylor
Shoes: Clarks
Handbag: Kate Spade (thrifted)
Bracelet: vintage

Yes! Love it! And the red underneath responds to it so beautifully. How do you feel in this outfit?

Shannon, I love these colors on you! The houndstooth pattern with the KS bag is just fantastic and the red top makes it all sing. Bring on the slouchy trousers, they look so fashion-forward!

I love the soft drapey cowl neck with the structured blazer. You are giving me ideas for styling my cropped navy jacket, as mine overlaps just the same as yours to the belt.

It's 10C here today, I almost went to work with no coat on, it felt so warm! Hope you are all bundled up!

Look how the lining in that bag picks up the houndstooth! That's so fab.

Super cute outfit. And Ceit is right; it is freakish warm here today, so no puffers for us, but I think your red one would be the perfect complement to this outfit!

The slouchy trousers with the short jacket and booties make your legs look very long! Love that you thrifted your amazing coordinating bag!

Krishnidoux - I feel fab and just like "ME" in this outfit! Does it show?

Claire - I'm so glad that slouchy and overall looser fitting trousers are on trend. I find them so much more comfortable than skinnies!

Ceit - I have three of these drapey cowl neck tanks (blue, red, black) and am very happy with them for layering pieces. I think the drape is flattering for someone on the curvier side and also elongates the neck. +10??? Whoa....crazy!

Suz - I'm calling you Miss Eagle Eye from now on...I didn't even notice how the KS bag lining picked up the houndstooth. Cool!

Shevia - interesting you mention my legs looking long because I actually feel kind of tall in this outfit.

Wonderful proportions -- kind of edgy 90-s with the short boxy jacket and slouchies -- paired with classic colors and patters. This is great and you look terrific..

Retro, modern, and with a little Duran Duran thrown into mix. I love it!

  • Karie replied 11 years ago

I love the '80's vibe going on here! Rock on!

  • celia replied 11 years ago

I love this outfit on you. For me the short jacket works with the pants because it is open .
This colors and the houndstooth pattern create a strong impression that I really like on you.

You look incredible. You have become the woman I watch because you always look so great.

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

This is an incredible outfit, Shannon! I would love to copy you, but can't find slouchies that are long enough, so I'm going to live vicariously through you.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Funny - I didn't even notice the 80's/90's vibe until y'all mentioned it!

Thanks Beth Ann, Karie, Celia, Mary, and Amy!

Angie - I will take the Duran Duran reference as a huge compliment from you 'cause I know how much you love them. Thanks!

  • Day Vies replied 11 years ago

I will take the entire outfit, thank you! I love the blouse under the houndstooth jacket. The purse is too cute. I really like the shoulder line on this jacket -- it fits you like a glove. I'm kind of coming around to the slouchy slacks. Excellent back to work outfit!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Maybe I'll get you to come around to my slouchy skinny jeans yet Day Vies - lol!

  • Emily replied 11 years ago

I love how these are all classic pieces punched up a little bit. You look fabulous as usual, Shannon!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

That's exactly right, Shannon :). Being compared to Duran Duran is a HUGE compliment coming from me. I LOVE THEM and love their style through the decades too.

  • JR replied 11 years ago

Sorry Shannon. We got up to 15 today, and when the sun came out, I had to take off my jacket. I was finally cleaning up my flowerbeds, seeing as this will undoubtedly be the last chance I got to do it with some heat on my side. Saturday they're forecasting snow.

Oh, the outfit? Sorry, forgot this was a fashion forum for a minute. Gorgeous, my dear. Gorgeous.

Loving the houndstooth withe the red. The drape of the blouse is a perfect contrast. Wonderful outfit!

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

In the photo I felt the jacket a little boxy, but I love the different textures and think IRL the drapey red top counteracts the boxiness to compliment the slouchy pants. What I'm trying to say is - looks good!

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

Wow! Shannon, you look fab as always. Like Jjsloane said above, drapey top and boxy jacket go hand in hand.

  • Nanabear replied 11 years ago

I love this outfit! You look completely fab. The houndstooth is perfect with the pop of colour from the blouse and the slouchy pants made it look super modern.

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

I'm pinning this and taking notes. You look great!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Yes a cropped jacket definitely works with those pants. I copied you this morning after seeing this outfit, only mine was a warm weather version:). I particularly like the jacket and note its a thrifting success story:)

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Yes, it shows, Shannon. It IS you. Totally. And that style looks so gorgeous on you too.
