WIW: Print Skirt & Red Booties for Suz

I bought this skirt last week and Suz promptly said she'd love to see it with my red booties....so that was the start of my outfit today.

I paired this print crepe midi skirt with the draped and knotted jersey knit long sleeved boat neck top that I bought at the same time. This top feels like pajamas on, it is soooooo comfy. It's also got this fab seam from the top of the left shoulder diagonally down to the right hip that makes the top drape so beautifully.

Also with the red booties, I've added my red leather snakeskin day clutch and jewelry is my gold watch and a chunky gold ring.

What do you think? Colours and proportions work well together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Suz - thank you for the suggestion! My happiness factor in this outfit is WAYYYY up there!

Skirt & Top: Cleo Petite
Booties: Sam Edelman
Watch & ring: thrifted
Clutch: Danier Leather

Red booties! I just thrifted some yesterday and I was trying to figure out what to do with them. This looks perfect! I have no idea what Cleo Petite is, but they should hire you as a model.

Looks great to me! Definitely a happy combination :)

I love the hit of green in the skirt. That shirt looks very comfortable, I like the drape of it a lot.

  • Sona replied 11 years ago

loving the drape and colors. your lipstick too. Totally awesome.

Shannon, I love that impresionist skirt a lot:-), and am sooo sad I have missed to buy one similar, from the european brand M&S when available in the shops...Curious, how will you style it, more than with blacks, wich is obviously the first idee that came in my mind, too.
Now, the red boots and clutch are more then fab here! Great idea, from Suz!

  • pil replied 11 years ago

The red really is the icing on the cake!

Shevia - can hardly wait to see your red boots in action. I've discovered these are far more versatile than I had originally thought they would be. Cleo Petite is a Canadian retailer that carries clothing for ladies 5'4" and under. I'm probably one of their most loayl customers!

Ceit - i love the mossy green in the skirt too. Wouldn't a shorter green military style jacket look cute with it?

lyn67 - although black is the first pairing for the skirt, I'm also planning on wearing my cream fisherman knit sweater, my mauve leather jacket, my cobalt faux leather jacket, my taupe draped leather jacket, tucked in chambray button up shirt....you name it!

    Thanks Glam, Sona and Pil!

Gorgeous, Shannon! The skirt and top look great on you and I love the red booties. I may have to take a peek at that top next time I am in cleo...

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Oooh! I LOVE it. Even more than I thought I would! This is chic, modern, simple, bright, FAB!!!

Gosh, I'm over the moon about it, really. I want to copy you but I can't!

And I agree with everyone that Cleo ought to hire you. Honestly....you should pitch yourself with some of your Cleo WIWs. Their website with those headless mannequins is the WORST for selling stuff. If people saw YOU in the clothes they would see their possibilities. Truly, if you want to take a short leave from work, that would be the ticket. Talk to their marketing people, pronto!!

    KILLER

You really do wear booties with skirts and frocks with the best of them. And midis to boot! The pattern on that skirt is delicious! Subtle, modern, chic and very Shannon. What is not to love :)

  • Day Vies replied 11 years ago

The skirt is SO cute. I like that it's an organic kind of animal print. Very nice ;-)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Emily - you would look fab in this top! It is really is very comfortable and depending on how you tie the knot, it can sit and drape differently making it kind of versatile.

Suz - oh you sweet thing you! You've got me blushing here. I really have learned through YLF to never judge an item by how it looks on the mannequin or hangs on a hanger in the store. You really have to try things on to see how they work.

Angie - thank you for the K rating! Do you know I never EVER would have thought of wearing booties with a skirt before YLF? Look what you've done to me!!!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Okay, I am dying to know...HOW are you keeping your legs warm in this? Do you have nude hose on, or what? This is my perennial problem...

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

I'm wearing Hue nude microfisnets. And when I'm outside (from car to office, etc.) I have my Blondo knee high boots on with my knee length red puffer coat.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

    Okay. Gotcha.

I guess it is my walking lifestyle that makes it tougher to wear these...the microfishnets are only really warm enough for spring/ fall temps....don't do it for me in the colder weather. So I always end up wearing opaque hose, which don't always work visually. So I end up wearing jeans...again.

Hmmm. Thinking cap goes on about dressing for the life I actually lead. I am far from dressing for a fantasy life, but I still wish sometimes I could wear skirts and dresses more often.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

If I were walking to work or taking the bus (which I used to) it would be opaque tights only. And you're right - sometimes those don't work visually with an outfit.

  • Tina.b replied 11 years ago

That is such a gorgeous skirt, and a great centrepiece to a fabulous outfit. You've really accentuated your great shape here, and the red accents complement so well.

  • replied 11 years ago

I know this lmight be kind of horrid, but if I am out walking to some place in a skirt in the winter, I layer on a pair of narrow zip fleece lined skinny pants -- it doesn't look too bad with a long coat and boots, and it gets removed as outerwear when I am at my destination.

  • amyreh replied 11 years ago

Adore this! I don't think I would ever pair a midi with booties, but you really make it work.

  • goldenpig replied 11 years ago

Gorgeous! I love the red booties and clutch. Midi skirts/dresses and booties are becoming one of your signature looks! Love it!

  • Sara L. replied 11 years ago

I like your red booties with the patterned skirt! I have a pair of red booties but I rarely wear them because the heel is too high. I'm not sure what I was thinking when I bought them. I've never worn them with a skirt because I couldn't figure out what color tights to wear with them. The nude micro-fishnets is a good idea that I'm going to have to try (although that doesn't solve the 4" heel problem).

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

Gorgeous red lips and toasty red toes, and marvellously festive everything in between. What's more, it looks super comfy too! GREAT outfit, Shannon. Strong in its very simplicity and seemingly effortless.

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

OOH! Love the skirt and the way you've brought this outfit together. I could also see this skirt in spring with taupe/white as a topper and with taupe booties and a red clutch.

  • JR replied 11 years ago

Oh, I had my eye on that skirt, and then couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger. It's gorgeous, and you've done so well with it. I don't have any red footwear, so I couldn't have done it credit as well as you have.

But if it ever goes on clearance, I will be so tempted now...

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

Shannon, you look marvelous in this. I can't imagine only wearing fishnets during the winter. You must be a lot tougher than I am!

  • JulieJohn replied 11 years ago

    Yummy!

  • Carole replied 11 years ago

Ok, that is the best skirt ever, love the print and the red boots are perfect with it as is the snakeskin clutch! You have the best wardrobe and accessories!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Oh my...thank you all SO MUCH! I felt comfy and stylish all day in this ensemble and will definitely be repeating the skirts with everyone's suggestions.

JR - pull the trigger! You won't be sorry. I'm planning on wearing the skirt with my olive boots, my nude booties, black Doc Marcies, knee high black Blondo boots....there are tons of options.

  • Nadya replied 11 years ago

Love it! Great teamwork, Shannon and Suz :-).

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Shannon this outfit makes me happy! I love that skirt. The pattern is wonderful and the colors are beautiful. You make me wish it wasn't warm here:( You do wear booties so well. My logic tells me these proportions (midi length and booties) wont work, but they do... and so beautifully.

  • Ginkgo replied 11 years ago

You look fabulous! And your lipstick finishes the look just right. I'm another one who never would have thought of red booties with this.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

    Super cute!!!

But... are you bare-legged in winter in Canada??
