WIW: Shorts Sorta Suit

Dare you to say that 10 times fast ... shorts sorta suit, shorts sorta suit....

I have a bit of a weird day today involving packing some supplies at work, going to a brief but important meeting and then an appointment with my gyne-onc and some more medical tests. I need to be comfortable and have ease of movement, still be professional and have quick access to my "lady parts". That's a tall order for one outfit!

So out came my silky shorts, which I cannot get enough of. I paired them with my yellow/grey/cream/taupe drapey tank and then topped that with my 3/4 sleeve light weight black knit blazer. This made for a shorts suit look. I then added my patent pointy toe pumps with the circular cut outs. Accessories consisted of my light cream satchel and my white watch.

I think this outfit covers all my needs today? What do you think - does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Blazer: Cleo Petite
Tank: Laura Petite
Shorts: Baby Phat (thrifted)
Shoes: Enzo Angiolini (thrifted)
Handbag: Danier Leather
Watch: thrifted

Awesome! Love the silk shorts and you seem fabulously ready for business

  • replied 10 years ago

It all works beautifully. Very appropriate for your day ahead.
BTW, I tried, but there's no way I can say your thread title fast without offending someone, no sir-ee!

  • Ornella replied 10 years ago

I came as far as 8 counts of that SSS thing :-D

And to answer your questions - yes and yes. You make me want the pair of shorts exactly like these every time I see them.

  • Mona replied 10 years ago

I am a big fan of these shorts, Shannon. You look perfectly ready for the busy day ahead.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Sensational shorts sorta suit! I love how your pointy pumps add to all your outfits Good luck with the tests.

  • Gabrielle replied 10 years ago

Given your day, I think your choice is very appropriate.

But what type of important meeting do you have for which shorts would be an appropriate choice?  I am asking because I can't imagine shorts ever being appropriate for a meeting.  I should mention we have written guidelines for professional attire and maybe those guidelines have jaded me wrt what other companies/professions allow.  Just curious.

    Looks sharp Shannon!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

You look terrific, Shannon! Good luck today with all your many duties. As usual, you are sartorially prepared for anything. But our hearts will be following you to your appointment.

Gabrielle, Shannons's work environment is business casual, really. She is one of the most interesting dressers in her office but also perhaps one of the dressier dressers. At least that's what my understanding is.

  • Gabrielle replied 10 years ago

Thanks Suz.  It makes me feel good to know she is one of the dressier dressers.  THAT is actually one of my personal style goals.  A goal I have yet to achieve because I lack consistency.  Some days I hit the mark and then other days I am in jeans/sweater top.

A second question I have has to do with capris.  Many people feel they are office and meeting appropriate.  Does YLF have any type of consensus on capris as meeting apparel?

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Ooh, la!  Very fresh and crisp.  Excellent choice. The polish of the shoes is perfect with shine of the shorts. Hope your day is as smooth as butter.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

I don't think there is any consensus on capris as meeting apparel (or at all, for that matter!) We all work in such vastly different environments. In some environments, shorts or capris would never be appropriate and they would be  exclusively for days off. In other work environments, they could potentially be appropriate. It all depends on the dressiness level of the item and they type of business.

Here are two different cropped pants outfits that Angie has worn, for example. Compare the first to the second. One is obviously much dressier and work-appropriate.

You have some tough/conflicting activities for one single outfit! Congrats on putting something together that not only meets these disparate needs but also looks good!

I guess I would need a "Hype" button now!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Diane - lol! Yes, do be careful saying that out loud repeatedly!

Shevia - I have fallen hard for pointy toe pumps this season. I find they just take any outfit, even casual, up a notch. And thank you for your good luck wishes.

Gabrielle - Suz is correct in that my office environment leans more towards business casual. We are not allowed to wear jeans other than on Fridays, but other than that as long as we are presentable, not exposing too much skin, and do not wear anything with logos or offensive words/pictures, we have a fair bit of leeway. Our office also tends to be slightly more casual during the summer months because of the heat so capris and dressier shorts are definitely ok. I do choose my work outfit for the day depending on what I have planned. For days when I have meetings including Executive staff and VP's, I definitely wear a dress or skirt with blazer and heels for example.

Suz - thanks for responding to Gabrielle's questions and for being there  :)

I think these shorts is one of my favorite thrift finds - they are so comfortable and so versatile. Thanks everyone!

As always, you covered all the bases and look fab!

  • Janet replied 10 years ago

Hope your busy day goes well!

You look amazing as always, and I am actually coveting those shorts. I could see dressing them up or down in a lot of ways, and that clamdigger length is my favorite. Great score!

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

Wow, you thrifted those shorts?!  Great find!  I think this is a perfect outfit for the many activities you have planned.

  • Diana replied 10 years ago

You look great! I'm filing this away to copy sometime with my silky clams.

Hope your busy day goes well!

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

Incroyable! Why o' why is my shorts suit wool? It will make everyone feel hot if I wear it.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Sharp! You sassy creature. Another k-word worthy combination :)

The most KILLER part about your style Shannon, is your consistency with which you post incredible looks. You ALWAYS look topnotch - have fun along the way - while sporting the very best attitude. My hat off to you. xo

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Angie - I'm positively tearing up at your kind words :) It is through learning so much here from you and the other forum members that I can even attempt some of the outfits I wear now. And for the records, I am indeed having fun along the way!

Diana & Janet - I am seriously impressed with how versatile these silky shorts have turned out to be. With a plain white tee and my silver/bone sandals for casual, to  pseudo suit for word, to wearing with strappy black heels and a sequined top for summer date night.

    Thanks all :)

  • Raisin replied 10 years ago

I love these silky shorts.  They work so well with so many outfits.  And the look chic but I bet they are comfy!

On a side note, my 6 year old son is convinced he knows you!  Lol, whenever he sees your pic he says, "I know here".  I said, oh yah, who is she?  He said, "I don't know her name, but I know her!"  He also said he likes your shirt today, because it looks like fireworks!  Lol, so there ya go!

  • Nicole D replied 10 years ago

I am simply shocked a the silky shorts' versatility!  Simply shocking silky shorts.  You look soooo lovely, I hope it was a good day.

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Love!  I am totally wearing shorts and a blazer to work tomorrow as I don't have clients coming in and it is HOT!

  • Eliza replied 10 years ago

Ah, the silky shorts solution. They are awesome on you. Love this combo and have no idea how one is to navigate summer without the elusive silky shorts. So fresh and the hint of classic works.

    Way to go!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

    SUPER sorta shorts suit!

  • Jjsloane replied 10 years ago

I like it a lot. It works for work.

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

Fabulous! I'll be thinking of you today :)

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Hope your appointment and tests go well.  This is a lovely outfit. You have me desperately wanting silky shorts:)  And I adore a suit look with long shorts.  I do think this meets your criteria and needs for today, and it is such a lady like look with the choice of footwear.  Beautiful.
