WIW: Shades of Brown

The weather has turned - it is cold, windy, rainy and there's a forecast for snow. I guess autumn is definitely here now.

I started today's outfit with my favourite Esprit espresso brown trousers. I paired those with my new BR pussy bow blouse. I've belted that with a newly thrifted brown leather belt with brass circles on it. For footwear, I'm wearing my brown leather booties and for when I step out the door, I've topped it with my cognac faux leather jacket. My handbag is my Fossil re-issue vintage bag.

I love the various shades of brown, cream and cognac together but I had to laugh this morning. My husband hates the colour brown (childhood memories) and just gave me "the look" this morning when he saw what I was wearing. Sweetheart that he is though, he didn't say a word.

BTW - this blouse photographs sort of shiny and almost see through but it is neither - it's just the flash messing with you. And if this is how well the BR petite blouses fit me, I expect to be buying more!

So what do you think? Everything work together here? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

I love it. For years brown was my FAVORITE color, and boy do people look at you funny when you tell them that. I find it warm and comforting and rich.....

    Love this on you!

This is a beautiful look, Shannon. I really love the dark brown paired with the cognac of your fab jacket, the colours in your bag and the lighter pussy-bow blouse (very sweet pattern). Elegant and fab!

    P.S. Possibility of snow, wow!

I love this outfit! The polka dots with the pussy bow looks so elegant but not stuffy. I like all the shades of brown together. Good man for not saying anything!

  • goldenpig replied 11 years ago

Awesome! This totally looks like an outfit I could wear! The Fossil purse comes out to play--yay! YLF!

  • Carole replied 11 years ago

Love it all! That bag is killing me, I want one so badly!

  • JAileen replied 11 years ago

I love the varying shades you've used.

I'm also a little envious. We're still in the very high 80s and I can't wear any fall clothes. It's strictly cropped pants, sleeveless tops, sandals.

Natalie - I totally thought of you when I put this together this morning! I love this handbag and cannot thank you enough for helping me get it!

Inge - it is no longer a "possibility" of snow...it IS snow! Been showing for the past couple of hours now :(

Sara - good man and smart man!

Thank you for your lovely words everyone!

Okay, I see '70s here in the best way. The colors and the grown-up groovy factor somehow combine to be all 70s-alicious!

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

Shannon, you make brown look rich and yummy. Nadya put it well..."warm and comforting and rich..... "

  • Sylvie replied 11 years ago

I'm anti-brown but that's not too much brown at all. I was expecting to see an outfit that was entirely shades of brown - pants, topper, etc. Brown topper + bag + shoes is very understated yet beautifully coordinates. The shoes are so dark, they don't even read as brown in the photo. I think you did great!

Gorgeous, Shannon. I LOVE that blouse on you! And yeah...finding a great thing at BR is such a gift. (For us Canadians). Order it, and if it doesn't work, take it back....no hidden costs.....dream come true.

  • Sandy replied 11 years ago

That's a great outfit! The jacket and bag tie it together so well, and I am also envious of that bag.

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

Love it - the jacket is fab.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Good grief. I LOVE YOU IN THESE TROUSERS!

So classic, yet so modern. Just perfect. You are *chic* deluxe in this KILLER look!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

    *fanning myself*

Oh my Angie, thank you so much! These are the trousers that made me so sad when Esprit closed down in North America because I truly found my perfectly fitting trouser.

Suz - I can tell BR and I are going to become very good friends. Now if we could only get a Nordie's in Winnipeg!

Una - you know, I didn't realize it had a 70's vibe until you mentioned that. I kind of like that.

    Thank you all!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

I hope you find a similar fit of trouser soon!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Me too! Any suggestions on who has trousers similar to Esprit's fit?

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Have you tried BR and AT?

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Haven't tried BR yet but now that we have a store, I can definitely do that. Unfortunately I can't get AT here :(

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

That is such a great look! Very potent, very self-confident. And chic! Love the blouse's material, how it shines, and then how you have paired it with the jacket and the bag which soften the look.Pure eye candy.

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

    WOW!

  • sinead replied 11 years ago

These gorgeous colors are too pretty to be called brown. I like espresso, cognac and chocolate... and they all look great on you. (Want that purse.)

  • fashionista replied 11 years ago

Very put together. Love that blouse.

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

You look beautiful in these shades of brown and the blouse fits you so well.
