WIW: Quiet Neutrals

When I first saw Angie's blog post about quiet neutrals, I wasn't sure if I could or would try it out. Well lo and behold, an unexpected top came my way on Friday which made me wanna give a whirl today.

My outfit started today with this new top - from my hospital gift shop of all places! It's a linen tunic with a linen-cotton-acrylic blend open knit cropped sweater on top. The two tops are connect by a couple of stitches at the top of each shoulder and at the neckline. It's a creamy-silvery white and like wearing nothing at all...so light and flowy. I saw it on the gift shop mannequin late Friday afternoon and literally walked in and bought it without trying it on. I mentioned in Angie's "pat on your back" blog post today that I was back to emotional shopping and loving it. This is the perfect example.

I paired the top with my white NYDJ straight-leg jeans that I thrifted last week and hacked off to cropped length this morning while having coffee before leaving for work. Yeah I know...kinda crazy. I love how the straight leg results in a wider look on my calf - somewhere between slim and wide. It somehow seems unexpected that way.

I then continued with my quiet neutrals ensemble by adding my sand colored Steve Madden peep-toe sandal booties and my cream/olive/taupe snakeskin Elliott Lucca handbag (a YLF pick about 4 years ago). A grey/silver bangle finish off the neutrals.

And then for a pop of color against the quiet outfit, red lipstick and my red specs.

Happiness factor? Ridiculously high. Why? 'cause I'm having fun with fashion and feeling good :)

I do apologize for my horrid outfit pic - the lighting in the office is horrendous. As always, all comments/feedback/suggestions for improvement more than welcome.

This is fabulous! And your hair color really shows. Gorgeous ethereal look.

  • annagybe replied 7 years ago

    Dang, this is nice.

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Oh wow -- this is gorgeous on you, Shannon!! No wonder you walked in and bought that top off the mannequin - it was made for you. And I have to say, you have the best hospital gift shop ever; this is not the first fab item you've bought there!

Loving the grey in your hair which the white highlights in a lovely way. :)

  • Aida replied 7 years ago

Ooh really lovely, Shannon! FUN top and nice job with the pants hack. I see this more as "bright" than "quiet", but then white energizes me. Especially loving how your hair and face are the focal point (one of my favorite reasons to wear white-out looks!).

Killer to the Power of Killer White-Out.

Striking and pretty! High volts :)

Love it! Great top and good call on cutting the pants. You look really great in it.

Oh wow ladies - thank you so much for your lovely words. The white does seem to bring out the white in my hair, doesn't it? My hair...which I'm not loving today...too big. Feel like I have a mushroom on my head - lol :)

Aida - good point...more "bright" than "neutral".

    Angie - I'm humbled by your K2K.

And you know the best part of the day (so far)? I haven't spilled a single thing on my bright/white outfit! Trust me...that's nothing short of miraculous for Mrs. Spillypants!

You are looking gorgeous, Shannon!  And that is one stunning top, wow.

  • replied 7 years ago

Yeah, I agree with Aida, nothing neutral about this. I LOVE it and what  great sweater!  And......yes, I see what you mean about the pant length, and it is somehow absolutely perfect.  This is gorgeous on you , Shannon, and you need to wear white all the time :)

I love your "emotional shopping" outfit. You look good is quiet neutrals. I went shopping for shorts yesterday and found an amazing burnt orange topper. I didn't get it and wish I had. I'm trying to overcome my emotional shopping, but I found the topper online and I can order it, and maybe I will.

I pretty much adore this ensemble on you.

Loved your post entire and you are just the picture of summer ease!

  • Windchime replied 7 years ago

You sure have a knack for choosing flattering items from that gift shop! This looks so good on you. Summer calm and cool. I love, love, love your hair color/style, too.

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 7 years ago

I don't think I remember seeing you in all white before, but I like it!

  • Jaime replied 7 years ago

Mouth gaping open response fabness! In the Shannon hall of fame, which apparently needs a new wing!

  • cobaltblue replied 7 years ago

    I adore this! Beautiful.

  • Joy replied 7 years ago

Quiet neutrals you say? They are screaming at me, shouting that I need to find something like this. Bright and bold.

  • Maneera replied 7 years ago

Nothing "quiet" about this outfit. It's PRETTY and it screams "I am confident & beautiful!" You look better than ever with every WIW, Shannon. This is one of the best White-Out I've EVER seen.

  • Runcarla replied 7 years ago

Shannon, you are just gorgeous! I think this might just be my favourite outfit, from your rather stellar collection of fab outfits.

  • Cococat replied 7 years ago

I nearly didn't click because I wasn't so sure about quiet neutrals but I'm so glad that I did! :)

This is such a lovely outfit with the different layers and textures. I don't see much quiet in this outfit...just a lot of 'fabulousness'.

  • jenanded replied 7 years ago

    Super nice Shannon!

  • Summer replied 7 years ago

I can only echo Angie's comment, Shannon.  Everything about this outfit is absolutely perfect.  Here's to emotional shopping!

  • lyn67 replied 7 years ago

White is not a quiet neutral but anyway I DO LOVE THIS white out outfit sooooo much!!! The cut and the layering of the twin set is so brilliant! Wow! And your hair, shoes and bag ground them all for an outfit K2K worthy to me!!!:-)

ETA: I only read the comments after writing mine and am so humbled to find out being on the exact wavelength with Angie on it- wow, seems I've begun to have better/trained  and specific YLF eyes:-).

  • Thirkellgirl replied 7 years ago

You look beautiful! Summery, and those colors are extremely flattering to you! I know you were talking about not being comfortable with a weight gain, but I don't see anything other than lovely proportions and style. Great outfit.

  • RobinF replied 7 years ago

Love it! I really love this tone-on-tone look!

  • Deborah replied 7 years ago

Wow Shannon you look stunning. The tones, the proportions, your hair...I'm speechless:). Beautiful, modern, elegant. Love it x

  • Transcona Shannon replied 7 years ago

Ok...I am completely humbled and overwhelmed with your lovely comments. Thank you all so much.

Shevia, Joy, Manny, Carla, Lyn - thank you in particular. You have made my day :)

What I found interesting yesterday when I wore this outfit was how comfortable I was in it psychologically even though it was all white. I am very comfortable in all black outfits and feel "safe" in them, like somehow black is like armor. I feel much more visible in white and used to feel larger in lighter colors. I didn't feel that way yesterday. So I'm not sure whether that's a confidence thing or the way the items physically fit. Need to think on this some more...

  • Transcona Shannon replied 7 years ago

Deb - cross posted...thank you sweet lady :)

  • crazyone replied 7 years ago

I think this is my favorite outfit of all the great outfits you've ever posted! Very on trend but you look happy and comfortable in it.

I had to come back and look again today. Seriously -- THAT good. I hope you make it a FFB.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 7 years ago

Ha Suz - made me smile big time :)

  • cfed3499 replied 7 years ago

Looks great! And I LOVE your Steve Madden peep toe booties!! Thanks for posting!!

  • Deborah replied 7 years ago

Shannon I wonder if it's a combination of self confidence and acceptance AND the fact that the outfit is proportionately brilliant :)  I want to wear all white now!!

  • Beth Ann replied 7 years ago

You're the one who taught me to blend whites!  Love the silhouette and laciness of the sweater.  And good for you for bossing your clothes around and wielding the shears!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 7 years ago

I love this look on you. The layers and textures are so gorgeous. You wear light neutrals just as beautifully as the darker ones!

  • Lisa replied 7 years ago

Gorgeous light colors here and I also like the texture from the knit top.  Bravo!
