WIW: Black & White

Today is the second miserable day in The 'Peg - cold, windy and rainy. I needed to dress a little cozier as a result.

So today's outfit started with this lighter weight wool blend tunic with semi-sheer flounce at the bottom. I paired the tunic with my VC black and white striped tube skirt (now starting to show it's age) because I love how the stripes peek out under the semi sheer flounce. I then topped that with my EF crepe knit open vest. I have worn the heck out of this vest since I purchased it two years ago - it was a complete surprise that a vest would turn out to be such a workhorse for me.

My trusty Steve Madden black peep toe sandal booties and citron handbag finish off the outfit.

For jewelry, I went with two items available locally. The necklace was actually made by a co-worker of my husband's who combines vintage pieces (the center medallion in this necklace) with other beads to create one-of-a-kind items. No two items are the same. And the leather w/brass clasp was purchased in a store in a smaller Northern town.

As always, all comments and suggestions for improvement welcome :)

YLF as always, and guess what, I wear my stripe tube and bl&w outfit almost head to toe similar to yours for the office today only topped with a white denim jacket. Love your yellow bag, thus mine is black-as still no time to changing it for a more summery shade-but,  it was easier to include color with some coral shoes instead-so concept is the same, isn't it?:-))

Looks terrific. I love your hair!

You look great, Shannon! Nice to see that citron bag come out to play again. And isn't it great to discover a workhorse by surprise? The vest is a fantastic 3rd piece for summer.

I sadly passed along my VC striped skirt this season...it was getting really pilled from all the wear. Now I miss it!

I love it! The bag is a nice touch of color.

Another excellent outfit. The shoes and the bracelet are fantastic and I will copy the rest too.

That bag! It is my first time seeing it. Lovely as always

You are the accessory queen.  Great cozy outfit while still looking seasonal appropriate.  Our weather has been all over the place and I feel like I've gone from summer dressing back to winter and now we're headed back to summer!

There's my favourite bag - sigh.  :)  Neat jewellery pieces too - love finding things like that.  Yesterday I wore a piece my mom bought for me one Christmas when she was in the hospital - and did all of her shopping that year in the hospital gift shop. I thought of you all day - lol.

I'm staying home  in my office today - this rain is crazy !

I love the black stripes and the yellow bag. Very graphic and eye -catching.
I do think that the necklace is a touch too boho for this look.

What's not to love about black, white and citron?! You look fantastic. I love your necklace.

Love it and have all similar pieces which I wear the same way.

Nice!  I love the jewelry you paired the outfit with.  The medallion is interesting and I Iove, love, love the bracelet.  I need to find something similar.  I wear a lot of bracelets in the summer and have been feeling bored with my collection.

Not a misstep. The fabrics are just right for one another. Love that bracelet.

Hey ladies! Crazy busy day so will have to keep my response kinda short and sweet - like me - ha lol! :)

Glad this outfit works - it's very comfortable and is just right for the weather.

AviaMariah - doesn't that back and forth spring weather drive you crazy? You need everything from boots to umbrella to shorts in your tote!

Lyn - love that we were twins today :) and yes, your shoes count.

Smittie - I wondered about the necklace being too boho but sometimes like to throw in some juxtaposition into an outfit. Thanks for your insight.

Sara - I've been wanting a black leather bracelet for a while but wanted something chunky but not heavy, if that makes sense. I had actually stopped looking when I came across this little beauty. And at only $20 bucks, was a complete no brainer.

Thanks all - gotta run :)

I have pulled out my Kohl's version of the VC skirt for my high-summer capsule.  There is something wonderful about crisp b&w stripes during a heat wave --- I love your cozier version here  The jewelry makes it particularly special.

Especially love that bracelet...but the whole outfit is fab...black, white and citron are such a great combo.

  • Cococat replied 8 years ago

It all goes together so perfectly and the citron bag is the yummy icing on the cake!

  • Sally replied 8 years ago

Love that bag...its a gorgeous colour.  The black and white goes well together well and the stripes and necklace add interest to the outfit.

I don't think you can go wrong with this type of outfit.  It's streamlined and neutral with the beautiful accessories to provide that extra 'little something'.  This outfit communicates that you are confident and happy and that your style just comes effortlessly:)
