WIW: Purple Amber Sun Jacket with shades of grey

This outfit didn't photograph as well as I would have liked - don't you hate that?

Anyway, I wanted to pair my purple Amber Sun jacket with my grey Glen plaid wide legged trousers. I wanted to keep the top underneath the jacket low contrast and remembered I had this dark grey wrap top from two years ago. I think it works well here to give me a column of colour. For a bit of visual interest, I added my silver/black vintage brooch to the jacket.

For footwear, I pulled out my trusty gun metal Naot Mary-Jane pumps. I'm ashamed to say I kind of forgot I had these :( They are incredibly comfortable and provide great support when my bad knee is bothering me. Handbag is my grey faux snakeskin clutch.

What do you think? Proportions ok? It is kind of dark and moody in terms of colour scheme - is it too "blah"? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: Amber Sun
Wrap top: Cleo Petite
Trousers: Ricki's (thrifted)
Shoes: Naot
Clutch: Sondra Roberts (thrifted)

P.S. the crotch of the pants is doing something weird in pics #1 and #2 - it is obviously because of the way I'm standing 'cause it doesn't do that IRL

Love the purple and grey together! Great pumps too.

It's a smokey, moody colour combo - I like it! The touch of sparkle in the brooch is a perfect finishing touch.

The shine from the brooch and your clutch brighten this up. Purple is a great color on you and you don't look one bit blah. Quite the opposite!

The colors are lovely together. I think the brooch and clutch add just enough brightness to balance out the other colors. A very elegeant yet edgey look.

Your shoe/bag/accessory photos are a constant source of inspiration. You clearly have the eye for seeing what pieces to wear together. And you wear them so, so well.

Does not read dark at all. The purple is a lovely color against the grey.

I really like the color combination and as always, you accessorize so well. I do think, for me, the jacket closed or near closed (#3 and 4) isn't as flattering as when it is more open (with hand on hip in #1 and 2)....may just be an angle thing, but when it's closed I'm wishing it was longer or shorter, while I really get the column thing and find it flattering with the jacket more open....

Kimlee - "elegant yet edgey" - love that, thank you!

Kat - I do wear the jacket open at work so more of the "column" is visible. This jacket isn't everyone's favourite silhouette due to the boxy and wider shape.

Thanks Ceit, missvee, Shevia, Catherine and Tracey!

I really like it, Shannon, but then I'm a big lover of this jacket's retro shape. And I also LOVE the purples. Totally works for me.

Shannon, we're jacket twins today! How fun!!

I would bet good money that this outfit is considerably more fab in person than in the photos, because you can't really see the pattern in the photos. I give it a big thumbs up!!

Shannon I love the colors together and the proportions are great, but that little brooch is stealing the whole show! I love how a well chosen accessory can raise the tone of an outfit, and you wear this one very well. It looks so nice with your clutch, too. :)

I don't think is blah at all. The brooch & clutch give enough interest. It is all about the accessories here. The only thing I am not super in love with is the combination of the two necklines. I have drapey blouses like the one you are wearing and I find them hard to layer. I guess this is just my personal aesthetic and not a deal breaker, of course. You are always really well dressed.

Classic / Retro at its best! Purple is one of my signature colors, so I'm also drawn to it, and grey is a softer column than black in this case.

    Love the shoes!

Shannon, your wardrobe is working at 100% efficiency!

A very sophisticated mix imo. Love the purple on you.

I love the clutch! I wish I could see more of the blouse because the draping is beautiful. As usual the cut of the jacket is drool-worthy. Super cute.

This totally works for me. The shoes did not show the sheen in the pictures but I bet they do IRL and the whole thing looks great and very polished and modern.

You have a knack for jazzing up what would be a simple outfit, very nice. And I love the shoes,

  • carolbee replied 11 years ago

Lovely outfit. I like the dark and moody look on you. How could you forget you own those shoes, they are gorgeous!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

I think this looks stunning. The purple and grey is a beautiful combination, I had some funny crotch action in a WIW a while back and realized that for some reason I was trying to wear my trousers like a high rise when they were a mid rise... i adjusted and all was good lol

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Great color combination - that purple is just the right shade to be moody but not dreary, if you know what I mean. Love it with the patterns!

  • Atlantia replied 11 years ago

Dark and moody....so of course I adore this look! :)

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

Nothing dreary about this Shannon. It's a very elegant outfit.
