WIW: New BR Sheath & Animal Print

It's going to be fairly warm here today (only -9 Celcius) so a dress was definitely on the menu!

Thanks to Anna's keen eye and Sveta's sale savvy, I got t his BR ponte knit sheath dress to replace my old one at a very good price (thanks ladies!). I can already tell I'm going to love this dress - it's extremely comfortable, fits great and is of very good quality. I've paired it with my Lord & Taylor cropped black & animal print cardigan. For a bit of colour, I've added a red croc leather belt and my red quilted handbag. I decided instead of ladylike footwear, I'd go a bit more urban and wear my Doc Marcie boots. A vintage bangle and wedding ring for jewelry and Bob's your Uncle!

I'm really happy with this combination as I think the proportions are good and everything fits well. I'm developing a real fondness for good fabrication these days.

What do you think? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Cardigan: Lord & Taylor
Dress: Banana Republic
Belt: Danier Leather (thrifted)
Boots: Doc Martens
Handbag: Nine West (thrifted)
Bangle: vintage

This is terrific Shannon, I love it with the sweater and Marcies!

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

So today's standout touch is the sweater. And I don't even like cardigans most of the time these days. But somehow it just works perfectly here to give your outfit punch, along with your wonderful smile and other bright red accessories.

Great outfit. Is the sheath new? As in, I wonder if I can find it online?

    Love the animal print too

The dress is a wonderful find! You can wear it zillions of ways. The cardigan makes it look long sleeved with a leopard vest in the photo, and red with leopard is a winning combination. You are building an enviable wardrobe. I 'm looking forward to seeing this dress in many stylings.

Great find on the dress :) I like how the cardi looks like a vest over a long sleeved dress.

Now that's a great LBD, done up in your inimitable contemporary-retro vein --- LOVE! You actually *look* so comfy and effortless in that... ::sigh::

    KILLER

Simple, modern and streamlined. You wear black with the best of them, Shannon!

I hereby crown you Queen Booties with Frocks and Dresses.

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

Just so perfect, shannon! At first glance, I also thought the cardi was a vest. Thev touches of red are really nice.

Like Shevia, I'm wowed by how well the sweater works here. I am not a cardigan gal, but this is PERFECTION. Just the right amount of warmth for a not-too-cold day and perfect over the dress -- looks like a vest from a distance. LOVE the red touches, too.

How did you find that dress fits, Shannon? I am still considering it. It would be a replacement for a black sheath that is showing its wear big time, but I am thinking maybe with the fabrication it would be more fall/winter rather than trans-seasonal (as my other dress is)? And I wasn't sure if I should order petite or regular in this. I usually order BR petites but was a bit concerned the length would be too short for me.

What a cool outfit! I love it! Red and leopard: so classy. This dress is a find!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Heh. Well, it looks like the petite is gone anyway, so I might give the regular size a try. But does it fit TTS or big or small?

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

    Thank you all!

I'm not normally a cardigan gal myself - I much prefer the structure of a blazer/jacket. But having said that, I now have a couple of cardigans that I do like and I think it's because they fit well, are shorter so I don't feel "sloppy" in them and are lovely fabric.

A - yes, this sheath is new and available on the Banana Republic website.

Suz - I think this sheath could be worn at least three of our four seasons. The knit is not super thick or heavy. I suspect it would be too warm for summer though. It is unlined but I'm not finding it sticking to my tights as I walk around today. Regarding fit, I would start by saying it is TTS bordering on slightly large. I ordered petite so that the waistline would hit in the right spot (which it does) and the arm holes wouldn't be too deep. I have a fairly short torso so the regular would have been too long in the upper body. I think your torso is longer though so the regular may be right on you - in the petite, the waist is quite high. If you order you might want to order one in petite and one in regular so you can see the difference, especially since returns to BR are easy for us now.

Angie - thank you for the new title :)

Terrific, as always! I love how you pair booties with your dresses and skirts. You've been my inspiration to do the same!

  • Susie replied 11 years ago

I REALLY like this outfit because I've always liked black and I love red mixed with an animal print. The whole look is fabulous on you.

  • Kristin SF replied 11 years ago

Wow, you look so fantastic in this outfit today! And I need, want, and must have those boots!!! They look terrific with your dress.

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

I agree with Angie - you really rock the dress and booties combo Shannon!

  • Day Vies replied 11 years ago

*singing*... "I did it my way". Shannon you know how to make a black sheath pop. I love the accessories and the cheetah cardi. Hopelessly cute.

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

This is so your signature look:) Perfection.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Stunning! I am thrilled that dress worked out for you. I also have a general preferece for jackets over cardigans, but agree that a cropped cardigan often works much like a jacket and creates the illusion of structure. Next on my bootie want list is a pair that are calf height..... thanks for the inspiration.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Jamie - it still surprises me sometimes that I not only wear but truly like wearing booties with dresses when I'm so short. Who knew?

Susie - red and animal print is one of my all time favourite combinations!

Kristin - do you have any Doc Martens footwear? These boots were my first adventure into Docs and now I have 3 pair and hope to add more at some point. I find them very comfortable and well made.

    Kirti - thank you!

Day Vies - you're so sweet!

Caro - it certainly does seem to be a signature look, doesn't it?

Deborah - you would rock mid calf boots!

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

I feel like a fairy godmother here :-)
I like all and every detail of this outfit, Shannon. Even though cardigans are not my thing you really rock them. Love those tough booties with such a ladylike outfit - well done!

  • Tina.b replied 11 years ago

Shannon, what a great dress, so flattering! This will be such a versatile piece for you. Great cardi too with the solid sleeves. Awesome outfit!

  • replied 11 years ago

Shanon, you put together such fab outfits I was wondering...Do you spend much time in your closet trying things together?

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Sveta - you are indeed a fairy Godmother! And a beautiful one at that!

Tina - after having owned one, I realized a knit sheath dress is an absolute essential in my wardrobe. I wear the HECK out of it!

Tracina - thank you so much :) I go in spurts in trying things in my closet. Some weekends I'll try on a few different versions of things and then I know what I'm wearing for the week. Other times, I will literally get up and grab what tickles my fancy - sometimes these work, sometimes not and I end up changing an element or two before the outfit comes together.
