WIW: Leopard & Red for False Spring

I thought Spring was in the air? Apparently not here today as it is -20. So a cozy cardigan was definitely on the wardrobe menu this morning.

I've paired my animal print merino wool cardigan with my red cowl neck tee- LOVE animal print and red together. The print on the cardigan has brown in it so decided to pair it up with my espresso brown trousers. I added a simple wide brown leather belt with brass buckle and my ancient brown leather heeled booties for footwear. Added my quilted red handbag for another splash of red, along with a swipe of red lipstick. My jewelry is a Fossil watch that is stainless steel and ebony wood - a Christmas gift from hubby 6 or 7 years ago.

It's a fairly dark colour palette for spring but hey - it doesn't feel like spring today anyway - lol!

What do you think? does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions for improvement welcome.

Cardigan: Lord & Taylor
Tee: Sears
Trousers: Esprit
Belt: thrifted
Booties: Naturalizer
Handbag: Nine West (thrifted)
Watch: Fossil

Love it! I particularly like the cowl neck on you Shannon, I find it to be quite an elegant, sophisticated and "cool" sort of look all rolled into one.

Love the cowl neck! It's only about -2C here, but it is snowing!

I think the brown and red work well together.

Soooooo fab! What a beautiful top. I have no idea why this outfit works so well, but it so does. What a visual treat.

Btw, something in it is whispering MaryK, MaryK, ...

Spring, what spring? Our last snow had melted 10 days ago, kids have started coming out to the local playground, sidewalks have been cleared from all the grit - and then we had another night of heavy snow fall just as I was getting ready to pack away the heavy coats..

I love red with animal print too. That's a fabulous cardi, and I love how you've styled it!

I'm sorry spring disappeared temporarily but you look wonderful! I love the cowl neck tee against the blocking of the sweater. Very NICE!

Beautiful. The red looks especially lovely next to your face.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

This works beautifully. I am very impressed with that cardigan on you. Somehow the pattern blocking give it a lot of structure and make it look more jacket than cardigan, if you know what I mean.

Ooohhh, lovely combo! That cardigan was a FAB find.

So sorry the weather is not cooperating, but I think you look fabuous! I really love animal print and red so this is a look I would certainly aspire to. well done :)

Woke it to more snow, too!

This is a great illustration of how cardis can still look fab --- love the red, brown and black, and the silkiness of the base layer with the leopard. Luxe and comfy!

love the red close to your face. This is a fab transitional winter into spring outfit- more color yet with earthy browns to anchor it.

I love animal print and red too. Love your draped neckline, red is definitely flattering to you. Sorry about spring doing a runner! You look fab anyway :)

You had me at leopard and red. Our spring isn't here yet and I'm in the chunky Gap pullover today for warmth. Someday...

OMG, GASP. I think this is one of my favourite outfits on you. The richness of it really makes you sing. Sorry about the weather :(. We're having a torrential downpour which is making me question whether skiing will happen tomorrow!

Thanks ladies - I have to tell you, I love this cowl neck tee so much that I have it in three colours - black, red and bright blue. It will also work perfectly in the warm months on its own and has the cool detail of faux leather shoulders in black. Washes like a dream too.

Looks like there's a few of us dreaming of spring...

I know it's a darker color combo but I this is super refreshing! I really like the red on you, Shannon. YLF!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

You are looking fab as ever! Love this combo. And I sympathize. We have SNOW again here today. Urgh. When will it end?

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

Gorgeous! Love the use of color. That neckline against the print of that sweater is awesome, Shannon. You look refined, stylish and sassy!

I have a love affair with animal print with red and love the added texture/pattern that the quilted bag adds to the mix.

I could feel that it was colder this morning before I even got out of bed. Bummer since I went and bought a few spring tops yesterday.

    Another 11 out of 10!

You always look incredibly pulled together. It's always a fabulous style day in the life of Shannon :)

  • Bree replied 11 years ago

I love the red and brown together! This outfit looks very false spring :-)

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Love that retro cardi more every time I see it! Lovely with the red and the quilted bag!

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Spring or not, you look HOT! The quality of that bag emanates all the way through my screen in here. Neckline says "relaxed elegance". Leopard and brown = winning combination. Very appealing.

  • Momo replied 11 years ago

Great outfit ! Love the cardigan and top.

  • Tina.b replied 11 years ago

The red and leopard works brilliantly here. Love the cowl neck of that top, such a flattering shape on you. Gorgeous outfit!

  • MsMary replied 11 years ago

    Laughing at Ornella!!

I LOVE leopard with red, and this outfit is stellar! You look fab, Shannon!!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Angie - you are too sweet :)

Rae - I'm so glad I broke my SYC for this cardi. It has definitely become one of my favourite pieces. I'm thinking trying it with my BF jeans, boots and a white tee for casual - now all I need is the white tee - lol!

Krish - I couldn't believe how lucky I was to find this bag while thrifting. I love the size, shape, clasp and quilting. It's been a real workhorse.

MaryK - I loved Ornella's comment - must be the leopard!

Thank you all so much. This is the first time I've paired the red cowl neck with the cardigan. Good to know it worked.

You look so pretty and cozy. Spring is really taunting us this year. It got up to 36F the other day, and everyone thought it was spring! Back down into the 20s now though.
