WIW: Lace Dress & Bomber

When I mentioned to Angie in her blog post about bomber jackets and how to wear them, she suggested pairing my black/white bomber with my navy lace dress. So I decided to give it a go today and here it is.

I picked up this cotton black/white bomber for next to nothing on a clearance rack at The Bay and thought it would be the perfect one to try this new trend - not expensive and not too "out there" style wise, you know? The sleeves are ridiculously long on me but because they have a zipper at the bottom of the sleeve, I'm not going to pay to have the sleeves altered as that would cost more than the jacket itself. So I've just cuffed and scrunched.

I've had the navy lace dress for three years now and will wear this baby until it is a rag - it is by far my favourite dress. And although it is technically dressy because it is lace, I have worn it both dressed up and dressed down and find it very versatile.

I'm also wearing nude hose and my new black pointy toe kitten heel pumps. I really like the pairing of a ladylike dress and pumps with the bomber jacket. Seems so naughty :)

Accessories are limited to my blue/silver bracelet and my navy vintage handbag.

So what do you think of this pairing and this look on me? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Bomber: Material Girl
Dress: Moon
Hose: Hue
Shoes: Calvin Klein
Handbag: vintage
Bracelet: thrifted

Looks great to me Shannon!  You look sporty and chic just like Angie in her blog post today.

Looks cute! The new shoes look great, and the sporty bomber looks good with the lace.

Shannon this looks very good.  The contrast between the dress and jacket is very attractive.  I'm slow coming around to the bomber jacket but this is making me think twice.

What do I think? I think you look fabtastic! I simply LOVE this outfit, in fact, I think I have to come to Canada and sneakily steal that dress. And the bomber - oh, yes, the shoes, too. Then there is the bag! Angie were right, the dress is great with a bomber, and I certainly understand why you love the dress. It is gorgeous without being too dressy for daily wear. What more could a gal want?

I love the juxtaposition sleek lines of the bomber with the organic hem of the lace. Nice combo!

    Fabulous x

I wouldn't have thought to combine those, but I think it works. You look very on trend! Thumbs up for the nude hose. I love your new kitten heels, but I wonder if I'd prefer a chunkier shoe with this outfit to kind of balance out the bomber jacket.

I know, you look like you borrowed your boyfriend's bomber to go over your dress :)

Parsley - I did bring my blue suede booties to work in case my new shoes end up hurting my feet later on as they break in. I wonder if those would look better?

Thanks for your comments ladies - this look is VERY outside my comfort zone and I'm still not entirely sold on it for me.

Love the black and white bomber - that is just what I would go for too! And I super love it mixed with the lace dress! And your new shoes look fantastic on you!

I don't know, Shannon, but I'd be curious to see that combo, or even a chunkier pump.

I really like this outfit but it makes more sense to me with the jacket open, when you close it it looses something.
If I had that dress I would also wear it all the time.

Celia - I am wearing the bomber open as it gives me my column of color that way. I'm not sure why I zipped it up for the pics - I guess just to show the fit or something.

I love the juxtaposition of the bomber and the lace dress. Well done!

I love those shoes!  I had been contemplating something like them for this spring but now that I've seen them in action I really need to find myself a pair.  I like the combination of black, white and blue together and think the bomber will be a fun addition to your wardrobe.
  • Thistle replied 11 years ago
I like the juxtaposition. It is different, but the vibe reminds of Angie's post today!

You look wonderful, Shannon! Tres chic! I actually like the pumps for a change. Like a breath of spring.....(we had snow on the ground again this morning, so I won't be wearing any of those today no matter what!)

The bomber is so cute with the lace. What is that lace dress, anyway? Where's it from?
  • Angie replied 11 years ago
Oooh!!! How exciting!! Thanks, Shannon :)

KILLER with the jacket open. Very 2013!

I hear what Parsley is saying about the pumps. I like the pumps! But your booties would look sensatioanal too.

Well done you gorgeous creature. xo

Wow, what a great find!  The Material Girl line has some great hidden gems and they all seem to end up on the clearance rack, don't they?  I really, really, REALLY love this bomber on you, Shannon!

Sara - I'm amazed at how comfy these pumps are and am loving the lower heel height. I will be wearing these a lot!

Suz - the dress is a label called Moon and I got it off a clearance rack at The Bay two years ago. They still carry the label from time to time but I've never seen this dress again, other than this single one. I'm so grateful that Wonder Woman totally revamped it for me as it did NOT fit off the rack but I was so in love with it I needed to try and make it work.

Angie - you are so welcome :) I'm enjoying trying this trend out and am becoming more comfortable in it as the day goes on. I've definitely received some interesting glances at work. I also thought about wearing my Doc Marcie boots with this as I absolutely love pairing more rugged boots with the lace dress. Do you think that would work?

    Thanks Karie and Thistle!
  • Angie replied 11 years ago
I do, Shannon! You might get even MORE looks of admiration at the office :)
  • lyn67 replied 11 years ago
Now, that's a killer bomber. And so fashion forward, as Angie recommended. Good job! Love!:-)

You look SO pretty Shannon. I can see why you love that lace dress so. Your hose clad knees peeking through the lace are very alluring and the refined pumps are just the ticket, I think. The bomber is so much fun with this, and adds some nice dimension and juxtaposition. Well done!

So Naughty but oh so Nice!

Fantastic! From the thumbnails I thought you had a white vest on, but I love this jacket (I'm hoping to pick up a similar one myself). Sooo cute with the dress and pumps. Refined-ladylike-shoe-loving me adores the little pumps with this; having one truly off-kilter element (in this case the jacket) is my favorite way to sport mish-mash dressiness. I think chunky boots would work, too, though the juxtaposition of the very refined footwear with the sporty jacket makes the look for me.

Really great look, Shannon - I'm returning my bomber or I'd copy this in some form.
