WIW: Houndstooth, slouchy & oxfords

Arrrrghhhh....my computer was NOT working this morning at home (some software glitch) so my photos I took at home wouldn't load. But sweet Kristin offered to quickly snap a couple of pics at work so I could still post my WIW (thank you Kristin!).

My outfit started with my new Gap ivory/navy houndstooth sweater. It's beautifully soft, non itchy and just a wee bit oversized. This is my first item from Gap's petite line which is finally available in Canada and I couldn't be more pleased - sleeves that are the right length! I paired the sweater with my black slouchy trousers, red belt for a hit of colour and my black/white Sara oxfords. My handbag for today is my red quilted one for another infusion of red. Over top everything when I head out the door is my black cape coat.

What do you think? Does this all work together? Proportions ok? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Sweater: Gap
Trousers: Lord & Taylor (altered)
Belt: Danier Leather
Shoes: Doc Martens
Handbag: Nine West (thrifted)
Coat: Club Monaco (thrifted)

    It's the sexy saddle-shoe look!

The sweater is adorable on you, Shannon. And when Citygrl sees it, I predict she'll want to copy!

Black and white and red all over! So happy you now have access to the Gap petites line - looks like their measurements fit you to a T!

    Perfect styling, sweater twin!
I almost lucked out on it too, My regular GAP size was a bit too snug so I needed to size up. I guess I took too long getting to the store, the sweater is sold out in NYC and online. The store was able to find me a return that had just come in!

I am wearing that exact same sweater today! Of course I think it's super cute!

This would work out so much better Shannon if you weren't peeking in my window ;-)

Love the outfit! I just want to take that picture and post it everywhere and say "Take that everyone who says that petites can't wear bold prints!" It just has to be the right one. You look amazing! Bold, fashionable, sassy. Fantastic all around.

Hey there sweater triplets Zap and Day Vies! Don't you just love this sweater?

Thanks Suz, Rae, Astrid, Kiwi, K and Shevdev!

Angie - I'm humbled by my new title :)

Absolutely, I love this sweater. I have it in a petite size as well and it's very soft and warm.

The warm factor is why I wore it today rushing out the door with not much time to ponder multiple layers. Mine is more fitted because a looser crew neck on me is not that flattering.

That is one fun outfit, Shannon! Love it all.

Oh my GOSH. I love this so much. You're hitting it out of the park these days, Shannon! You look about a billion times better than the Gap model in this sweater. Good thing I'm trying to SYC or I'd be ordering it!

That new houndstooth sweater is gonna be a workhorse for sure! It's both stylish and, may I add, a bit punky! (in a good way). You look so cute. Wow, you have a graceful, gazelle-like neck--I'm jealous. You can wear all those scarves that would stumpify my stubby neck.

  • Isabel replied 11 years ago

WOW ! and WOW, again. You look fantastic. You look very thin and long to me......

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Love it! I had you and Zap and Natalie in mind when I posted about this sweater. You look outrageously amazing, and I am so glad you can get petites now!

Your styling skills have become so advanced Shannon. Everything is perfectly proportioned, accessorized and textured here. You leave me nothing to tweak.

I love that sweater! And the whole outfit works, I love the pops of red and the red lip as well. This outfit is great all around.

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

This outfit is definitely one of the best. The sweater is gorgeous on you. So tempted to buy this right now!

  • Sona replied 11 years ago

Shannon, you are looking so great with these retro-inspired outfits. Love them.

Love this outfit. That sweater is just SO fab.

OMG I love this! Houndstooth is one of my favorite patterns and black/white/red is one of my favorite color combos! And of course the matchy matchy belt/bag/lipstick. The cape coat is to die for too! Another Shannon grand slam!

Una, thanks for thinking of me! I missed the original thread, but I totally would love a houndstooth sweater like this! Only it would probably be a midriff baring length on me right now, LOL! And think I tend to look better in V neck rather than crew neck sweaters, something about my neckline shape, I guess? I'm trying to think if I own any crew-neck sweaters...I think they're all V or cowl necks!
