WIW: Cognac & Black

I wanted to try a simple pairing of cognac and black after seeing that outfit combination on Pinterest.

I started with my black ponte knit sheath dress and then added my cognac faux leather jacket. I'm wearing some fun animal print tights and then popped on my cognac riding boots. For accessories, I'm wearing my vintage men's tribal belt (to define my waist), using my Fossil re-issue vintage handbag and vintage gold bracelet. For heading out the door, I've topped it all with my plaid cape and red leather gloves.

What do you think? Does this work? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Cape: thrifted
Jacket: Revolution
Dress: Cleo Petite (thrifted)
Tights: Hue
Boots: Hush Puppies
Bracelet: vintage (thrifted)

Shannon, we have not seen that cape before, have we? It is amazing on you! Such fun. I love the whole outfit. Simple, autumnal, and fun with the gloves!

You are certainly getting your use from that Fossil bag. I hope it does not spring a leak like poor Brenda's!

I have LOVED this color combo since I was about 20...in other words a very, long time !! LOL .

You look fantastic in this. I am dropping your pic into my inspiration folder. ( The cape is magnificent ! )

That is a winning combination, Shannon!
I go crazy every time I see you in that cape, it looks so snazzy! And the red gloves are a great finishing touch.

I love that cape! And the red gloves really make the detail of the plaid pop.

Too cute! I love cognac and black together. There is a richness to your outfit because of the color and texture including your cheetah hose. As usual I am lusting after your bag. I am going to have to put together a black and cognac outfit soon (this time I am copying you ;-)

Love the animal print hose peaking out in a very subtle way. Nice!

LOVE THIS, Shannon! You are just too fab for words. I wish I could wear a cape in my climate because I drool over yours every time I see it!

Great outfit! I'm totally copying this for tomorrow (well, except for the tights because it's still too warm here for tights).

okay, so obviously my memory is even worse than I thought; everybody else has seen this cape so I must have, too. I think you've styled it so cleverly I forgot! ;-)

You look great in the cognac color, honestly you should wear it all the time. Gorgeous cape and bag.

Ohh this outfit makes me want to hug you for some reason :D I love it! And ummm I very very badly want that cape. It looks SO brilliant with the red gloves.

Sorry I'm so late in responding to your lovely comments - it has been one CRAZY day!

I can't help but find it amusing how many of you like this cape. When I bought it at the thrift store and brought it home, my dear sweet hubby thought it was positively hideous. He's still not fond of it. I loved it right away.

Suz - I've worn it a few times but I think it was when you were traveling so you probably didn't see it.

Thanks so much for your kind words - I felt really good in this outfit today and I think I'll be repeating it a couple of times.

You look stunning in this Shannon, I so love those earth tones.

I've been meaning to mention how much I love how you show your accessories close up in a separate pic. I remember when Mo did a study on hers one time like this and really find it an excellent tool.
