WIW: Green Tweed for a freezing day

It is a bitterly cold day here today. Just the right kind of day to wear a cropped tweed jacket. I haven't worn this jacket for quite a while and every once in a while, I put it into a donate pile and then I end up putting it back in the closet. Maybe it's one of those pieces you don't wear often but you enjoy it when you do wear it.

I've paired it with a simple dark brown tank and my dark brown espresso trousers. I'm wearing my animal print belt for a punch of pattern, my dark brown high heeled booties to continue my column of colour, and my Fossil handbag.

When I step out the door, I'll be bundled in my red puffer coat, Burberry-esque scarf and dark brown insulated gloves.

What do you think? Does it all work together? Keep or donate the jacket? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: Club Monaco (consignment and altered)
Tank: Cleo Petite
Trousers: Esprit
Booties: Naturalizer
Puffer: Land's End
Handbag: Fossil

You are totally ready to tackle the cold. It is one of those days where I am trying to figure out what to wear (it's cold!) and I keep thinking black and some other color.

I love the green and the accessories as usual. I think you may have sealed the deal for me on what to wear today.

Shannon, if you enjoy the jacket keep it. The color is lovely and the style works for you. I feel it has a hint of retro that works so well on you. There is nothing that screams at me that it should go. The brown and green color combo is very attractive. And I have to say that puffer looks amazing. They are not as popular, or necessary, here so for me they are a bit of an acquired taste, but you actually make what is essentially a "functional" garment look incredibly stylish.

That jacket is lovely! I love the colour and shape, it seems like the kind of jacket I'd wear all the time. I would keep it for sure!

Love the jacket ! It has a slightly retro vibe that really suits you. The whole outfit looks cosy and stylish.

I like the green jacket a lot and am glad you keep saving it from donation. Although it might be a retro style, to me it looks perfectly modern because of the sort of slouchy way the trousers and belt look. And I love how your bright puffers come out and surprise me as I flip through your pictures. Not many can wear a puffer with style, but you do!

Green jacket is great! We have freezing rain this morning, which hasn't been fun to get to work. I am sick as a dog but have some skeletons to analyse as they have to go back for reburial tomorrow. You look about a billion times better than me, and it is nice to see you in those brown trousers again :)

Great, creative outfit and color pairings as we expect from you, Shannon.

I really love this jacket. It speaks to me. I like the color, cut, material and length. It does have this great retro vibe. I'd wear it in a second if it fit as well on me. I'm curious as to why you're always rethinking it. I do notice (it's a bit hard to tell in pics) that the collar seems very large. It would be another retro touch. Just wondered what might be bugging you about this neat jacket. I hope you keep it!

Tweed is so warm isn't it? It must be the bulky weave that traps the air. What a perfect outfit. Love the accessories close-up; the colors and textures look so good together. And that scarf is really fun with your puffer. I think you need to take that lamp to work with you because it kind of matches your jacket. No wearing the lampshade on your head though, unless there's a party at work today. ;)

I love the jacket on you and love the whole outfit!

If you are anything like me, you might find yourself rethinking that jacket on days that just aren't cold enough to wear it. At those times it might seem superfluous. As if it is taking up room it doesn't deserve. But then days like this come along, and bingo!! I have a jacket like that got from consignment. I almost reconsigned it because I wore it to death last year and was bored of it (it was one of my only jackets) but I ended up saving it for another year and I think I'll be glad I did.

The puffer is perfection. SO glad you got red.

I just love you in these retro style jackets! And with trousers to boot. Looking fabulous as ever, Shannon :)

I think you look great and the jacket looks perfect. It seems to go well with your style and I hope you hold on to it for a while longer. I like the patterned belt to go with the brown and green.

I hear you on the cold, it is -19 here today. Makes dressing so much more complicated but you manage it with panache. Gorgeous outfit, I'm in love with tweed. And the column of dark brown is so elegant underneath.

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

The jacket is fab. You must keep. Stay warm!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Well alright then - the jacket stays! Thanks for the feedback. I think I was worried that with the oversized collar and boxy shape that it may read a bit "fuddy duddy" but none of you have mentioned that, so no worries!

Tina - I wish we were only -19! When I left the house this morning, with windchill, it was -34C! And tonight we will be going down to -40.

    GOOD GRIEF :(

    How does anything outside, live?

  • rae replied 11 years ago

That jacket is adorable! If you donate it, I think Santa will have you on his naughty list for sure. ;) So nice with the column of color!

  • RandomThoughts (Andrea) replied 11 years ago

Love the green tweed, Shannon. It's a great little jacket! And you're not so bad yourself. ;-)

  • modgrl replied 11 years ago

That is a sweet jacket! I can see it worn in so many different ways. I am dying to see it pattern mixed with dots or herringbone... but that's just me!!!
PS- that's my winter coat too! Isn't it sweet!

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

Oh please, keep that jacket! It is tooo cute to let go. I love the simplicity of this outfit with just its retro shape as the star on top.

Hope you're staying nice and cosy --- the weather sounds astounding up there (she says, turning up the collar of her *cotton* sweatshirt at midnight)!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Angie - it always amazes me how my perennials in the garden come back every spring. You wouldn't think it possible after our winters!

Rae - yikes! I do NOT want to be on Santa's naughty list...

Rita - not only do I love this red puffer, but it is toasty warm which is an absolute must in our winters. Definitely one of my better purchases :)

    Thanks Andrea and Manidipa!

That jacket looks really great on you Shannon, I can see why you had second thoughts and went and got it back out of the donate pile. I love the color, and the fit is perfect on you.
