WIW: Cognac, bootcuts, bright blue & a Sona clutch

I'm enjoying experimenting with my casual Friday ensembles - I hope I'm getting the hang of it!

Today's outfit is all about this beautiful clutch Sona sent me. I love the size, the pattern, the colours and the gathers on the flap.

I've paired the clutch with my cognac faux leather jacket (my office is quite chilly in the winter months so I can wear this instead of a blazer) overtop my bright blue cowl neck tank. The tank is tucked into a pair of older Anne Klein boot cuts and I'm wearing both my cognac booties and my tribal men's vintage belt for a bit more of the brown/cognac. Jewelry is my silver wedding band and my ebony/steel Fossil watch that DH gave me 4-5 Christmases ago.

What do you think? Does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: Revolution
Tank: Jessica (Sears brand)
Jeans: Anne Klein (thrifted)
Boots & Belt: thrifted
Clutch: Sona

The cognac faux leather jacket looks great with that bright blue top and those jeans. The clutch is great too.

Love the look and the color combination. That blue top is a little bit of happiness saying hello Friday.

Love cognac and bright blue and the clutch is just perfect with this. I also love those jeans on you. Another inspirational look!

I love the color combination here, and the clutch is a perfect accessory for this classic combination with its pattern and texture. Well done again, Shannon!

Wow, Shannon, for a woman who doesn't much like trousers, you are showing it how it is done, with both jeans and non-demin pants! This is a terrific colour combo. Love it on you and the clutch is a beautfiul finishing touch.

I saw your cobalt VC jacket in a store downtown here!! I didn't even know they carried VC stuff! It looked absolutely lovely. And I waved to it and said, Hi, Shannon's jacket!!! You look better on her than on the hanger! (And it looked good on the hanger already!)

Love that blue and cognac together. I love how you changed things up from the last time you tried this combo!

Thank you Tracey, Asingh, pil, Shevia, Ingunn, Suz and Ceit!

Suz - I'm dying to get back the cobalt jacket from Wonder Woman (another week yet). I think it would look good with the trousers from yesterday, don't you?

Update on trousers: well it appears I have to retract my original musing statement that I'm not a trouser gal. I have discovered that it is all about the RIGHT trousers (duh....). For me, it's the leg shape and where they sit on my waist that makes all the difference. I do not like a skinny jean on me. Although I have the Wit & Wisdom skinnies, I find I am wearing them less and less. I don't find them particularly flattering as they accentuate the width of my midsection and size of my thighs as they skinny down to my ankle. I much prefer straight leg, bootcut or wide leg as they go straight down from my hips and tend to balance me out better (I don't like looking like an apple on a stick, you know?)

I have also fallen hugely in love with all things slightly slouchy.

It's fun to see you in boyish flared jeans! AMAZING colour combination. You look terrific as always :)

Love the proportions. Love the individual items. Love the individual colours. But I am not crazy about the three colours together. I am obviously the odd woman out on this point. Mind, I don't find the combination offensive or awful, just not wonderful. But you know that I am conservative that way, box of crayons or no.

Oh what fun! I love cobalt and cognac together, such a fresh color combo for winter and the new clutch just makes everything all the better! You are a lucky lass!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

The cobalt and blue is definitely a different kind of colour combination - no worries if it "ain't your thang" JR!

Sona - if you read this, I've now had THREE compliments on this clutch at work!

Love the color combo, and the proportions are spot on. It's so hard to find the perfect rise and length is a jean, and these are just right!

You hope you're getting it right - are you kidding - you have achieved the level of zen master of casual friday wear. Love this colour combo.
