WIW: White Button Down Shirt & Grey Wide Legged Trousers

I bought these trousers back in August and finally got around to getting them hemmed. They are a light grey/dark grey/blue glen plaid print, wide legged, wide waistband trouser. I may have found my trouser brand replacement for Esprit - these are from Ricki's and fit really well.

I've paired the trousers with a simple white button down shirt (testing whether or not I still like a crisp button down) a black leather belt and my Clarks black shoes. I've added my red/animal print clutch for a pop of colour and some pattern mixing and for outside, my black quilted jacket. Simple jewelry includes my silver wedding band and my grey/silver bangle.

So what do you think? Do I suit a button down shirt? How's the overall outfit look to you? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Shirt: Jessica Petite (Sears brand)
Trousers: Ricki's
Belt: Danier Leather
Jacket: Nygard
Shoes: Clarks
Clutch: Material Girl
Bangle: thrifted

Fabulosity! A white button down suits you! Loving the simple, classic look with a punchy clutch.

Just perfect! Love the spiky hair!:-)

What could possibly be wrong with a great fitting white button front, grey pants, and a hit of red? Nothing!

Shannon, those trousers are fab! And they look great against the crisp white shirt. The clutch adds interest to the outfit. How about adding a pearl necklace?

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

You look super in this! Crisp, professional, yet fun. The clutch is SUCH a find. I really love it with this ensemble as it plays a starring role.

The shirt seems to fit well. Do you prefer it to your BB shirt?

SO glad you found a new brand of trousers to love. These look terrific on you. And after all Angie's trouser posts no wonder you are eager to wear them.

shannon, i really like the direction your outfits are taking...more streamlined, more sophisticated but still fun and still recognizably "shannon."

this outfit is the perfect example. it could be so strict, except the texture on the jacket and the pattern on the clutch really set it apart. one of my faves ever (so far!).

Classic and gorgeous. You could add a necklace or scarf (something not too big that sits inside the neckline of the shirt), but it looks great as is, too.

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

Great polished look with just enough zing (the clutch) to make it YOU.

  • Debora replied 11 years ago

YES to the button down! You look so chic, modern, and polished. Love the accessories!

I like this! I have rediscovered Ricki's as a place for fun clothes, their trouser selection is getting better all the time.

That shirt is stunning and fits you perfectly. It does look really crisp, too, do you prefer a softer fabric in your button front shirts? My BB one from eBay is really soft, but that might be because it's pre-loved. Anyhoo, this outfit looks great, the trousers fit perfectly and you could always mess up the collar and scrunch up the cuffs/sleeves to make it less "'buttoned-up". I beg you to hang onto this shirt at least for the rest of the season to see how you feel about it because it really is that fab. :)

I think it looks great and I love the red/leopard clutch! Maybe a patterned belt or necklace would change it up some for the next iteration, especially since the outfit has no color if you're not holding the clutch (and I tend to associate your outfits with color).

Thank you so much for the feedback ladies - I agree that either a patterned belt or a small necklace/scarf inside the collar of the shirt would punch up the outfit a bit, but glad to see you think the shirt is ok.

Suz - I actually prefer my BB shirt but to be honest, it's a bit too tight these days. I've put Rocky into my "holding" area in the hopes that it will fit soon. However, this shirt is of very good quality, washes brilliantly (although does require a quick ironing) and is a mere fraction of the cost. Plus it is petite sizing so fits well.

Claire - I promise I'll hold onto the shirt and wear it several times over the season to see how it works for me.

Tres sassy! I love the shoes (practical and stylish!) and the clutch. Nice additions to this tailored canvas.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Suz - one thing I forgot to mention about this shirt which I prefer over the BB is that it is a little longer which works better for tucking IMO.

    Day Vies - thanks!

Shannon, I love this outfit. It is crisp, modern, and sophisticated. The elements are simple, but the contrast in textures and shot of color is what sets it apart. The minimalist with a twist look is what Angie is doing these days and this outfit really shows her influence.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

I agree with Gaylene's assessment - "crisp, modern, and sophisticated. The elements are simple, but the contrast in textures and shot of color is what sets it apart". I'd add that your hair adds to the look too.

To my eye, this combination is as strong as any other style preference. No one at Fashion Week can touch you in this look. It is in a league of its own.

    KILLER :)

I really like this outfit. I LOVE your new clutch, so fun! You just need Angie's polka dot belt to complete the outfit! (I've been coveting it myself).

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Well you could knock me over with a feather thanks to your lovely comments ladies!

Angie - thank you so much (*blushing*)

Jem - I would love to find a polka dot belt like Angie's. If you find one let me know, and I will do the same, ok?

Interesting self observation on this outfit today - I feel extremely comfortable physically, completely put together and there is zero "fuss factor". Maybe there is room in my closet for button down shirts after all. And I LOVE these trousers!

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

One of your best ever! Don't stop wearing those crisp buttondowns.

  • unfrumped replied 11 years ago

Envy for you who can wear crisp white shirts! I cannot. Such a good way to get a sophisticated work look.

  • Alison replied 11 years ago

I am a new forum member and just love your Clarks shoes. I am wondering how long you have had them. I'd love to track down a pair for myself.

  • Carole replied 11 years ago

What a chic and classy outfit, Shannon. And you seriously have me drooling over your bag collection! Love that little number.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

    Sharp!! FAB trousers, glad you finally got them hemmed. This outfit is Perfectly Modern Classic. I think that crisp button-up shirt suits YOU, not the other way around :}

  • Jenava replied 11 years ago

This is a great outfit on you! It's probably the flash, but is there a cami under the shirt?

I used to own those shoes! They are very comfy, aren't they?

I think I would love this even more if the belt buckle were a big sharper, maybe s square or something, or maybe a grey belt (or, ooo, snakeskin!).

LOVE the clutch. Love that jacket. Sassy! I think you do well with the shirt.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Alison - I've had these Clarks shoes for probably 3-4 years now. They are incredibly comfortable. I'm not sure if they still carry a similar style but any of their shoes are fab IMO.

Jenava - love the idea of a snakeskin belt....might have to start looking around - thanks for your keen eye! BTW I am not wearing a cami - should I?

Joy, unfrumped, Carole and Aida - thank you so much for our kind comments.

Every one has said such nice things about this outfit. i don't think I can add more but one thing is certain, you look so pretty in button down shirts. They should be a workhorse in your wardrobe.
