WIW: Camo & Bootcuts

TGIF!!! This has been one heckuva long and tiring week - my boss left for another position a week ago and I am doing both jobs until the position is filled, which could be vacant until January.

I'm debuting two new items today - I started my outfit with my new Jessica Simpson curvy bootcut jeans. I've had great luck with JS jeans in terms of my sized up skinnies and decided to give her brand a try when looking to replace my old bootcuts. Once again, they fit perfectly (other than needing hemming).  I paired the jeans with my mixed media camo-front sweater and for a change, did not semi or faux tuck. I love the drapey fluidity of this sweater and just wanted to "let it be" today.

The other new item I'm wearing today are my patent leather Ara booties. I love having these pretty shiny toes peeking out from underneath my jeans. I got these back in August but have been waiting for it to be cool enough to wear.

On top of everything when I head out the door is my Spiegel leather jacket and I'm using my black leather with gold hardware hobo-style handbag. Gold wedding band and rose gold/black watch complete the outfit.

What do you think? does it all work together? proportions ok? should I have gone with a semi tuck or does untucked look ok? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend :)

Jeans: Jessica Simpson
Booties: Ara

The spiegel looks fab on you Shannon! Despite my camo poison eye, I have to say you look terrific!

  • jurocha replied 10 years ago

I'm no expert when it comes to proportions, so please take my opinion with a grain (rather a lot!) of salt. I believe the untucked top works both with and without the jacket. However, it has a rather relaxed vibe when worn WITHOUT the jacket. My personal preference there would, then, be semi-tucking the top as soon as the jacket it set aside.

Besides, I just would like to add how gorgeous your booties are. I am sure you're going to get a lot of wear from them.

  • replied 10 years ago

I think it looks casual untucked, but I think that is fine for a Friday! Love the booties.

  • Lantana replied 10 years ago

I'm happy for you to stay with the untucked look. It is very casual as Jurocha has pointed out but there's nothing wrong with that. After all, it is camo.
Still and all, I have become accustomed to seeing a buckle and a hint of belt thesedaysso I'd probably prefer that in the complete outfit. Penny

Love the look.  I rally like it with the jacket.  I think semi tuck could work too, but untucked looks casual and fab.  Another sinner. Ooops, I mean winner! Yikes!

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

Camo and mixed media.  What's there to not love about that?!  I think you have my entire imaginary wardrobe :D

I too think the top without the belt gives a relaxed vibe in a good way.  With the jacket it has a more polished look.  But I wont change a thing about the way you have styled it :)  Love it!

I love the soft neutral tones of this outfit the fluidity and the shape. I really love the subtle camo effect (looks like waves) in the top. Fabulous -- marking as a favorite!

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

I like the untucked top, and those jeans look like a great fit on you, nice job!

  • nancylee replied 10 years ago

Very cool and relaxed, Shannon.  Enjoy your well-deserved weekend!

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

You look beautiful, Shannon, which is strange to say to something wearing camo, but it's true!

Untucked looks good.  You could semi-tuck and belt for more structure, if you wanted, but I think this is equally fab!

Love the hi/low mix of patent and camo!

Happy Friday!  Any chance they'll just give you your bosses job, since you're doing it already?

  • Emily replied 10 years ago

Looking good, Shannon!  I like the untucked top, it is easy and casual, and the proportion with the Spiegel jacket is good.  The jeans fit beautifully.  I love that you wore your patent booties with a casual look.  Very saucy.  :)

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

So fun (well, not the work week!)!  Is that bit UWP for our Urban Prince?  Ahh, but still princely with the patent leather booties :)

  • Vicki replied 10 years ago

You look fabulous DOING TWO JOBS at the same time and all your weekends are well-deserved. Let's hope a wonderful replacement comes very soon.

I really like your untucked look here, Shannon, for the reasons you mentioned. It's fluid and easy casual and sets the tone for a fun Friday. The shiny booties are a nice counterpoint to the camo. Thumbs up!

Shevia - I have a bit of a camo poison eye myself but have decided it's all in the TYPE of camo print.

Jurocha & Penny - I appreciate your observation about the tucking very much and think I'll give this top a faux tuck next time I wear it.

Nicole - "another sinner" - LOL!!!

Day Vies - that's exactly what I thought when I first saw this top - the camo looks like waves. That's how I could get past my camo poison eye.

Beth Ann - no chance they'd give me the boss' job and nor do I want it. WAY too much pressure and responsibility.

Emily & Vicki - my hubby actually said this morning "those boots are a little dressy for that outfit aren't they?" and I replied "yes" and giggled a little. LOVE any kind of juxtaposition in an outfit.

Thistle - hmmmmm.....didn't think about that....maybe there is a wee hint of UWP in today's outfit.

Thanks all for your comments :)

Terrific. That camo top is fab on you!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Fantastic outfit. Great to see you in bootcuts. I love a shiny shoe myself. High five. And have a good old relaxing weekend after a hectic week. xo

  • Amy replied 10 years ago

I love this look head to toe! Thank goodness the weekend is nigh.  :)

  • MsLuna replied 10 years ago

Love this outfit! The jacket adds polish and finish to the look!

  • Wendi1984 replied 10 years ago

I like it! I think patent boots "dress up" the camo in a unique way. Good job!

  • Mochi replied 10 years ago

Hey, kind of twin (I have a pair of Ara booties). You are looking good in this tastefully casual monochromatic outfit. You are so lean and fit!

  • Carole replied 10 years ago

Love it all, and the jeans are so very flattering! How great that they only require hemming. Love the top, too, and the new booties, well, just the whole outfit is a ten!

  • Carole replied 10 years ago

Oh, meant to say how stressful work must be doing two jobs! I was in that position a few years back, yikes. Take care of yourself!

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

    I absolutely LOVE that top!

  • anchie replied 10 years ago

You look great. And you also look like you lost weight? Are you applying for the boss position, since you are already doing the job?

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Well I've had a grande Americano misto (thank you Starbucks) and I'm ready for the second half of the day!

Angie - bootcuts have always been my favourite cut of jean on me. I tend to feel long and lean in them. So glad they're on trend again. And maybe we should start our own "Shiny Shoe Club"?

Mochi - actually this is kind of monochromatic isn't it? Funny how I didn't notice that.

Carole - I will definitely do my best to take care of myself. You're so sweet :)

Una - this top was a total random and impulsive purchase and I'm sooooo glad I bought it. I love it too.

Anchi - yep, working on losing some excess poundage and getting into better shape. Thank you for noticing. And I definitely don't want the boss' job - too much responsibility. And I'm not "officially" qualified.

Thank you so much Kelly, Amy Katie, and Wendi.

The jeans are super flattering on you and your casual outfit is quite polished!Hope you can catch a few zzz's this weekend, I understand what it feels like to be working all the time.

I have given a lot of thought to the tuck or not to tuck question, and I think I prefer it untucked.  The proportions look fine although it's true a semi tuck does elongate the leg line a bit.  The reason I like it untucked is that the top has a fair amount going on:  color blocked sleeves and camo print.  The semi tuck creates another pattern within the top, or at least more detail to take in.  So I think I like it simple like this.   The other thing is that a semi tuck creates a RATE vibe, it is a slightly tousled/messy detail that might take the polished aspect of your outfit down a notch.  Whenever I semi-tuck my 80 year old mother complains that it looks like I went to the bathroom and did a bad job of re-tucking my top.  ;-)  Pointing out that this is in style makes her shake her head even more.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

I love this. And I like it best untucked!

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

Shannon, you have some FAB shoes in your collection!
The 'simplicity' of you outfit is very appealing- like Angie you are choosing such well-fitting pieces that need no further embellishment.

  • peppertree replied 10 years ago

    Love it

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

Another fab outfit! Seriously Shannon, you dress fabulously every day - how do you do it? I try, but...
Re the tucking issue, sometimes I faux/semi tuck, sometimes not. Sometimes I think it would look better semi tucked, sometimes I just don't care! I think it looks great either way.
    And yes, TGIF!

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

This is cute and fun, Shannon!
I like the top as is (untucked), although of course it would look fine with a semi-tuck as well. You don't need to semi-tuck EVERY day, though. It's good to change it up from time to time.

The shiny booties look great, as does your lemming jacket :-).

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

Great outfit, I didn't even realise it was camo until I read the text.

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 10 years ago

I think it might by the angles to and away from the waist because this jacket looks as great as the Lanai on you.  I love the booties too.

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

    You look amazing!

And I need that top to go with my new jacket!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Denise - I thoroughly enjoyed reading your thoughts on why you prefer the top untucked. You are so articulate. I did enjoy wearing it untucked as I felt there was more fluidity that way and that somehow the softness of the draped fabric in the front took away any masculine association with the camo pattern. And you're right that a semi tuck creates a kind of RATE vibe. Brilliant observation!

Karie - how sweet :) I have found that posting my outfits on a daily basis keeps me from being lazy with my style.

Dianthus - as good as the Lanai? Whoa...cool! I think jackets that have that cut away style work for my shortwaisted shape much better than a more traditionally shaped blazer.

MaryK - Ooooh that would look fab don't you think?

Thanks for dropping in ladies :)

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

    Ooh - I love it!

  • replied 10 years ago

Doing the work of two 'til January...Whew, just the thought wears me out.  At least you have your wardrobe in great condition so no added stress there.
You look FAB as always.  As for tucking I don't think there is a "best" way here. Both half tuck and no tuck are perfect as the mood strikes.

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous. I love the bootcut silhouette on you Shannon and you are totally rocking the Spiegel!

  • Robidi replied 10 years ago

I live everything about this outfit! YLF!
