WIW: Monochromatic Animal

Hmmmmm.....this outfit doesn't photograph well being all black. I over exposed the pics a bit to try and show the textures in the outfit.

I started today's outfit with my shoes. I bought these Fluevog pointy toe animal print oxfords about two months ago and have been waiting for the cooler weather (which is here now!). I did not like the wide ribbon laces that came with the shoes as I thought they took away from the look of the shoe itself and so have swapped those out for this black laces...much better.

I paired the shoes with my slouchy black textured trousers. These trousers are a mix of a silky fabric with a velvet embossed pattern on top. They remind me of that old velvet flocked wallpaper from the 1960's but in pants - lol!

I paired the trousers with a simple black sweater (the sister to my pink sweater) with 3/4 sleeves and punched up the outfit a bit with my red and animal print clutch - well that, and a swipe of red lipstick. My rose gold/black watch rounds out the outfit.

Now that I see the pictures I'm wondering if the monochromatic black outfit is boring? I really wanted the shoes to be the star of the outfit but I'm not sure I got this right. As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

    NOT BORING!

The trousers are patterned and have a sheen, the shoes are the star, you did good, woman! :)

Now listen very carefully... All black is not boring:). It is elegant, chic, edgy modern, stylish....all the things this outfit is:). Those shoes are brilliant. This outfit looks effortless. You look amazing. I feel a copycat coming on.

Nice outfit. This is helping me think about ways to style some textured jeans that I'm struggling to wear.

Not at all boring. The pattern mixing and fun clutch make it an exciting outfit. Love this!!!

The shoes are the focal point and the outfit is gorgeous!  So chic.

Definitely not boring...LOVE the pants especially. However, I confess wanting to see something at the neckline....dark scarf? necklace? I am far from an expert, and I struggle with long sleeved black tops myself.

Boring? Never! The shoes star when they are not competing with your adorable clutch. I love the patterned pants.

Agreeing with everyone here, not boring at all!  The black outfit has different textures which makes it interesting by itself.  Add killer shoes and the *bag of envy* :D and you are done!  I must admit I first opened the last pic to check out the shoes :D ..... your description of it sounded so drool worthy!  And I wasn't disappointed!  Love the pair!  Off to wipe some drool off!

Deb - ha ha! I knew you'd have to chime in and saying that all black is not boring - lol!

Aquamarine - I don't really wear scarves (used to but I've gotten away from them) but I did think about a necklace. Thank you for the suggestion.

Neel - the "bag of envy" - so cute!

So I have scrunched my sweater sleeves which IMHO has given the outfit a bit of a better feel - more structure and have decided that due to the impact of the shoes and the fairly strong texture of the pants, simple is a better way to go here.

Thanks for the feedback ladies :)

Not boring, Shannon! I love the mix of texture and subtle pattern. And the bag makes it all pop. But I'll tell you what. When I make the transition to more darker tones in winter I find it difficult for a while. It's harder to see the detail and it doesn't always photograph as well. I sometimes see it all as looking harsh (on me). And maybe it does (on me!) But sometimes I think it's just the change that makes me see it that way.

Yes, the shoes are marvelous!  You look terrific, and I think the textures are really interesting, and would be even more so up close.

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

Fabulous!  I really love the bright pop of red from your purse. And those shoes!!  Amazing!  Who said flats had to be boring!!

  • Windchime replied 10 years ago

No way boring; rather, classy and fun!

The shoes and bag are fabulous, but you're the star!

    Love.

I just know this outfit is even better in person. Dark colors and textures are hard to capture. I like it a lot--and the funky Fluevog shoes are drool-worthy :)

An outfit where the shoes are the star?? AND they are black and white?? How could that possibly be boring??!!

  • kkards replied 10 years ago

you are the above the title star, the shoes are the co-star, and the pants are the supportive best friend!

  • Inge replied 10 years ago

Not boring at all, Shannon!! You have the textured pants, the fluid silhouette and the animal print footwear and clutch (with a fun pop of red), so lots of interest going on. This is a great outfit!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Thank you all so much for reassuring me that this isn't boring. I've been quite comfortable all day running around and these shoes have generated a fair bit of buzz in the office - lol!

  • Emily replied 10 years ago

It's been covered, but ... not boring at all!  I agree that the shoes are much better with plain laces.  All that luxe, dark texture really sets off your glowing skin and cheerful red smile.

I missed this earlier but glad I caught it now. Love the shoes and the whole thing!

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 10 years ago

The pattern on the pants does come through in the photos and adds interest on top of your fab accessories

  • JAileen replied 10 years ago

    Fantastic shoes!

  • ManidipaM replied 10 years ago

Boring?! Look, no disrespect, Shannon, but may I get you one of those pocket dictionary things for Christmas? (Excuse me, am clearly not Gen X... Doubtless there's an app these days)

Only thing is I don't think the shoes can outshine you on top of the pants and clutch. Which makes YOU the star of the show. And I don't think you can or want to top that.
