WIW: Birks with my boy (ETA pic of DS & 2 purchases added)

I'm off work today to take my son to his surgical consult (he's having jaw surgery) and then we're going out for a casual lunch and some shopping. I'm looking forward to having some mom-and-son time :)

Today's outfit started with my olive cargo pants, paired with a white and blue striped drapey tee semi tucked with a black leather belt. I then added my mixed media denim jacket (LOVE this jacket!) and popped on my new black and white polka dot Birkenstock sandals. To say my feet are happy in these sandals is a major understatement - finally…a trend that works with my physical attributes! To finish off the outfit, I went with my red specs and my small red snake print leather clutch/wallet, and my taupe/silver wrap watch and silver wedding band.

Hope this works 'cause I'm heading out the door. I will catch up with all of you later - I'm so far behind in reading posts and even replying to my own. Sorry 'bout that :)

Jacket: Buffalo by David Bitton
Tee: Reitmans
Pants: Ricki's
Sandals: Birkenstock
Wallet: Danier Leather
Watch: Fossil

ETA: Here's a pic of my "wee boy" (all 6'3" of him!) just as we were leaving. He lives in his jeans and has several fits, brands and washes and also has a shoe addiction, which he freely admits.

Fantastic Shannon!  Very "hip". :).  Love the red accents.
And I can't believe it's warm enough there for bare feet and Birks!!! I'm in booties...

  • kellygirl replied 3 years ago

Awesome casual outfit, Shannon! You look so trendy and modern in the birkies! Love.

  • Debra replied 3 years ago

Fabulous outfit. I have horrible feet too and have to find shoes that will take my orthopedic insoles. Except for my birkies, they are sooo comfy :)

  • carambola replied 3 years ago

You make Birks look sassy. Love it!

Yeah!  Love the feminine fun of polka dots on the rough-n-ready birks!  Looks and feels great!  The amount of slouch is perfect for comfort and flattery.  Have a good time with DS!

  • Neel replied 3 years ago

Ooo LA LA!! Hip is the word!! Have a great day!

  • BethL replied 3 years ago

Yay! I lurves this one, Shannon! One of my all-time faves, which is saying a lot because I like them all so much. You look so happy. Hip and comfy, too. Hope you have a super day. P.S. I just pulled the trigger on white patent Birks. Too bad I couldn't find the polka dots; I wouldn't have minded being your twin.

We're back from the consult (which went well - surgery on May 29th) and did some shopping in a funky little store right downtown. I found it interesting that  a mere year or two ago, there is no way DS would be caught with me in the same store, let alone both buy something from the same store. Heaven forbid! But now at 18 he's coming around to the fact that parents are human beings after all - lol! - and we had a blast in this little store showing each other stuff. Most of it is geared towards the younger generation but I did buy a beautiful soft blue/blush/white drape tank that will work beautifully for casual and work wear under a blazer (pic #1), as well as a pair of "cinnamon pink" Vans for summer casual (pic #2). DS bought two fabulous tee's from a brand he really likes and until now, had to order online. When I asked the young male SA if I could try on the tank, he kind of looked at me and so I said "I take it you don't get a lot of the 50 plus crowd trying on your stuff?" and he oh so politely said "not so much, but it's kinda cool you're going to".

My Birkies were amazing for walking downtown since we weren't parked anywhere near where we had to go. Oh please….let the Birks trend continue for a while :)  :)  :)

Thanks for your kind comments on the outfit - I felt like a stylish casual MOTG.

  • Elizabeth P replied 3 years ago

Sounds like a fun day Shannon, and great purchases too!  Can't wait to see the tank, styled.

  • jackiec replied 3 years ago

Did you just walk straight out of a Zara ad? Uber cool.

  • Neel replied 3 years ago

Your wee little boy is a fine stylish young man! I love his shoes and Jeans and I think I want them. Lol!

And that top is lovely! The vans look uber comfy and sleek. I am eyeing some myself! Great finds and a lovely story behind it :). You go stylish mum!

  • cciele replied 3 years ago

Heehee, you're too cool for school, Shannon! That tank is going to look so awesome on you, can't wait to see you style it with those Vans. Oh, I love your Birki outfit too! Hope you wear the heck out of those shoes.

  • Karina replied 3 years ago

Great outfit, fun and functional! And completely fab. :) How fun to see your son...I have three younger boys and this have my heart a little lurch to think of them being taller than me someday. I hope his surgery goes well.

  • rachylou replied 3 years ago

Oh, you are such the cool girl (!)

  • Parsley replied 3 years ago

Shannon, you are so cute in that outfit I could just squeal!
I love your new Birks, and I'm glad your feet are feeling happy again.
DS is a doll- I hope his surgery goes well!

  • Suz replied 3 years ago

DS looks like his mama!!! (Well, except in the height department...)

  • Karie replied 3 years ago

You are a super stylish MOTG! (Good thing I just re-read that, I originally typed MOTH, not MOTG! HA!) Now back to the serious stuff…Birks with little dots on them! How fabulous - I love that. And that mixed media jacket is gorgeous. Here it comes…wait for it…THIS IS ANOTHER FAVORITE OUTFIT!

  • Aida replied 3 years ago

Great outfit, and I love the shopping story ^^

  • Lyn D. replied 3 years ago

I did not know that you could get them with spots- YLF :)

  • Deborah replied 3 years ago

Totally rocking this casual look.  You look fab, stylish and relaxed.  Love the Birks.  And your DS looks like a real sweetie.  I suspect mine will one day be towering over me too.  Have a lovley day.

  • Sveta replied 3 years ago

You do rock the Birkies, Shannon...but I am amazed it is warm enough for them! I was wearing trench and booties today! :-(
I hope DS surgery goes well. It is amazing how closer they become to us after they finish high school! :-)

  • shevia replied 3 years ago

You look fantastic and sounds like a great day with DS! Love your jacket and shoes!

  • MsLuna replied 3 years ago

Shannon, I did not expect your son to be so tall! For some reason I thought you had little kids! :)

Outfit looks so relaxing yet stylish. Love the Birks! And since you're my new comfy shoe sister, how did the Birks feel?

  • Caro in Oz replied 3 years ago

You both look fab - sounds like a fun day. Love the Birks :)

  • BethL replied 3 years ago

Your DS is a cutie. He looks pretty fab in his outfit, too! Love all the pics. Nice purchases all around.

  • goldenpig replied 3 years ago

Polka dot Birks? I die! You are the coolest, Shannon!
And your DS looks like you! Hope his surgery goes well. Cute shopping story!

  • catgirl replied 3 years ago

Were those Birks custom made for you?  Amazing.  And hooray for a mother-son day.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 3 years ago

Thanks all :) Both for the outfit love and the well wishes for DS.

Katie - the Birks feel AMAZING! Truly. But not the soft foot bed version. They have both a 2 degree soft bed and a 4 degree hard bed. The soft one felt "off" but the hard version is incredible. The metatarsal support in it is higher and harder, which works unbelievably well with my high arch foot. And the metatarsal support is actually recommended for anyone with bunions as it forces the toes apart a bit which relieves the bunion pressure. Brilliant!

Sveta - it wasn't super warm today (I think we reached +15) but my feet have a high tolerance for the cold so it was all good.

  • pil replied 3 years ago

You look super, Shannon! I love that mixed media jacket. Hope Iain's surgery goes smoothly.
