WIW: Another chunky knit and red booties

I really enjoyed wearing my pencil skirt/chunky knit combo the first time (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....-snakeskin) so wanted to wear that same formula again but with different pieces.

Today I started with my taupe ponte knit skirt (waving to skirt twin Suz!) and paired it with a burgundy chunky, slightly drapey knit. I have had this sweater for YEARS but only wore it with jeans or around the house on a chilly day. I never thought to pair it with a skirt until that clever Angie told us it could work. I hope the sweater doesn't look too dated.

I then added my red booties for some more fun colour, my snakeskin handbag for a bit of pattern (plus the taupe shades in the handbag work great with this skirt). Overtop of everything is my grey boucle knit jacket and red leather gloves. Although difficult to see, I'm wearing a vintage pewter and pink jewelled brooch - it adds just a wee bit of something to the sweater IMO.

What do you think? Does this work? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Sweater: ?
Skirt: Cleo Petite
Microfishnets: Hue
Booties: Sam Edelman
Handbag: Elliott Lucca
Coat: Calvin Klein (thrifted)
Brooch: thrifted

Taupe and red is not something I would have thought of, but I really like the combo...for some reason it's very soothing to me.....pair it with the bag and it pops but in a very subtle, sophisticated way (if that makes sense). And the coat adds the great finishing touch. Love it! This is something I would wear in a heartbeat.

Ahhh I LOVE the combination of the sweater and skirt - it's soothing but warm at the same time, and looks great on you! I'm not loving the red of the booties with the red of the sweater quite as much (different red undertones?) but it still looks good.

I really like the outfit on you, you look great, I love those booties they are very nice. Every piece is great but....the coat doesn't work for me with the rest.

I like the sweater and booties with the skirt, but find the glove color a bit jarring with them. Apart from that I think this is a fantastic look!

This is terrific! I love the combo of that sweater and skirt!

Agree that the glove colour is the wrong red - I ended up leaving them at home. It was warm enough without gloves anyway. The coat is a necessary piece in our neck of the woods but maybe isn't the best with this outfit...oh well...it's only worn from the house to the garage anyway.

The non matching reds of the sweater and booties however doesn't bother me in the least - guess it's just a personal preference thing.

    Thanks for chiming in ladies!

Shannon, I've wanted to steal your snake bag for ages and now covet those red booties. What brand are they? The red and taupe are a great combo and I like the broach as an alternative to a necklace or scarf.

Joy - the booties are the Sam Edelman Lisle ones that Angie has in her store. These are definitely one of my best footwear purchases. They are extremely comfortable, great heel height and the colour is perfect - I didn't want anything too bright, you know? Laura also has these booties and is pleased with them.

This is beautiful, oh skirt twin! I love the texture of the sweater with the skirt. And as I'm coming to understand, taupe looks great with a surprising number of colours. I would like to copy but will have to go shopping for red booties first!

What a lovely sweater Shannon! It looks great with taupe :-)

I love the bag!!!! I wish I had a close up of the patten no the sweater. Your accessories are so spot on and fun-- a brooch indeed! Very cute.

I love these colors together too! It's very close to the olive/burgundy combo I also love. The only thing I would have left off is the gloves (and I realize you *did* leave them off). The marled sweater is lovely with the skirt--not dated--and I love a broach on a sweater. The booties, of course, are TDF and your proportions are excellent, as usual. You look SO good today. On the coat, I beg to differ with you. I think it's the perfect choice. Yummy textures all together.

Fun outfit! I'm kindof liking the grey-ish coat with the taupe skirt and definitely with the red. I like that combination and agree it was a good choice to leave the gloves at home. Maybe you need some purple gloves? :-)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Suz - I'm firmly convinced that taupe is just about the perfect neutral colour. It really goes with almost everything.

Thanks Kirti , Day Vies, Claire and Jem!

You are so cute, I can't stand it. You take a new trend by the horns and bingo! You're wearing it with panache. So. Much. Flair. :)

This is a lovely outfit, good for you!

I kind of dig the gloves but it must be because I bought some loud, ridiculously red ones myself, which I plan to mismatch with anything and everything under the sun. Get yourself a patterned scarf with a bit of that color on it and you will form a little grouping that can stand alone, with every outfit and every coat.

... and a tweed coat goes with everything in my book, as well.

SUCH a delicious color combo (I am also wearing taupe and burgundy today, /highfive). Sweater looks great, booties look great. You can still go hoseless though?? Color me jealous! Bright gloves could certainly work here, I vote any other color than red. Turquoise? Mustard? ORANGE??

Yes, taupe and anything usually works. I wore a taupe dress that I am not crazy about on it's own, with a midnight blue V-neck sweater and brown tights and blue grey mary janes with brown piping and , dang, I thought I looked cute.

What a great work outfit formula! It is work appropriate but not stuffy and the sweater, tweed, and booties are super on-trend. It's not easy to combine trends with work wear but you do it with ease.

So fab it almost makes me wish it was winter down under.......... hmm on second thoughts roll on summer .....

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Shannon I really like the colour combination. The broach is nice touch too. This sweater reminds me of one I saw a blogger wearing recently, so I would suggest you on are right on trend :) I am drooling over those red booties.
