WIW: An Old Favourite

Hey - remember this leather jacket? This is the one hubby got me for my birthday a few years ago. I haven't worn it in ages as it started to feel too fussy for my style. But this morning I grabbed it and fell in love again!

Today's outfit started out with my simple black pencil skirt from my skirt suit. I added texture with my houndstooth tone-on-tone tights. For a top, I went with my grey-black silk tie-dye look long tank and then topped it all with my plum leather jacket. This jacket is quite whimsical with all different buttons on the front and sleeve cuffs and a shorter back with a tie. It's kind of "Medieval-meets-modern".

For footwear, I went with my chunky Doc Martens and I grabbed my black leather handbag and silver wedding band for accessories.

I'm happy with everything in this outfit except for the skirt. It's a little too A-line shape for me. I'm much happier with a tapered hem.

What are your thoughts on the outfit? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Isn't it funny how one year something looks off and then it is back on. I think you did I great job of styling an old and new favorite.

It's fun to see that jacket again. I agree about the skirt. In the photo where you can't see the bottom of it, the outfit looks best. It would probably be an easty job for Wonder Woman to taper it for you. I have skirts like that and feel the same way about them.

So nice to see that jacket again. And yes, with a simple support act, why the heck not? It works beautifully on you. And that is the thing --- if we loved something once, chances are we will come round to it again.

I hear you on the skirt. The taper makes such a difference, to me, too. Interesting fact, that. I wonder who looks best in an untapered pencil? Somebody must....but who?

I have that jacket in black!  Haven't worn in in ages for the same reasons you haven't worn yours.  And I so agree with you on tapering skirts. I like Suz's question about who exactly looks good with them untapped??  I have a small little pile- ok,2 - waiting for me to get the sewing machine out.

Looks great Shannon!  And how awesome to be able to resurrect something leather.

Do you think it's working now because your "support acts" have become more simple and streamlined, allowing for some "fussiness" (for lack of a better word) not to be overwhelming when confined to one piece?

I think it looks great balanced with the sleeker skirt and top. Not too fussy at all.

WOW that is fantastic. I love all the different elements of pattern and details, and how you pulled them all together. The tights wit the boots are my favorite part :)

The jacket looks terrific. Do you always hold onto things like that, or did you just hold onto it because it came from DH? I am ruthless when I fall out of love -- out it goes to consignment. But I wonder how many things might come back around if I were more patient.

It's fun to fall in love with older pieces all over again, isn't it. I bet hubs loved seeing you in that jacket. Gorgeous with your eyewear.

LOVE this on you, Shannon. Great tough gal vibe with the boots. xo

I had wondered about the jacket since I hadn't seen it for a while. It's still lovely and I really like it with your outfit here. You look fab, Shannon!

Not fussy at all. But the boots - you must be considered uber-cool at work!

It's Marsala!  So what is old is new again -- and not only that -- it's the color of the year!

I hear you on straight skirts, vs. tapered.  Funny how a few years ago, I just thought tapered skirts made my hips look bigger.

Love it with the Docs.  I get it with the textured tights, but I think I'd like it with a simpler pattern -- maybe pinstriped, maybe tweedy grey?  Now, I'm being nitpicky, so don't take that as a criticism, but more of a "what if?"

Love the jacket! Great with the boots. I like the texture from the tights too.

Great styling and working an old fave back into rotation. I share your wee dissatisfaction with the skirt's flare. I think that the flare on the jacket, and a bit on the blouse, just accentuates the skirt's flip. Someone asked who doesn't want a tapered pencil skirt? Me! I much prefer my skirts to be straight up and down or a very slight taper, but not flip or tulip. Too much taper feels constricting as I walk, and also gives me ice cream cone silhouette.

Very busy day today - sorry I'm so late popping back in.

All day this skirt has been bugging me. I basically want a winter, non-clingy version of the VC tube skirt in black. I adore the taper on those skirts. Other than that, I'm really happy with the outfit and have soooooo enjoyed wearing this jacket again (and yes Angie - hubby was quite chuffed to see it come out of hiding :) ).

Viva - I'm usually a brutal purger - not wearing it? Out it goes. But there are a few items I hold on to because I know at some point I will want to wear it again or it has significant sentimental value to me. This jacket had both reasons.

Thanks all for your feedback and comments :)

Looks great! I love the docs paired with the jacket. It takes down any potential fussy factor. I'm glad you held onto this :)

Great outfit!  Who doesn't love a taper?  Me, on myself.  My upper thighs are greater around than my hips, and I have muscular calves.  Tapered skirts make my thighs and legs in general look heavier IMHO; I had to size up on the VC tube skirt because my legs took up all the room and I had to hobble walk in my regular size.  To my eye, your skirt shape is the best one FOR ME -- maybe because we have rather opposite shapes!  Tapered skirts definitely look the best on my DD whose shape and fit challenges are the opposite of mine.

Fortunately, you have Wonder Woman who can taper the skirt for you if you really feel the need.  Wouldn't work if the skirt made you hobble and you wanted it wider!

Aw, I am so glad this jacket has come back out to play. I adore how you styled it here, not fussy in the least!
