Uh oh...look what's on it's way

I love the colour and print of the VC blouse and based on the houndstooth one I got through NAS, know that it will fit well once I have Wonder Woman shorten the sleeves. I can see it with black pencil skirt, black slim trousers (here's hoping the Gap ones fit when they arrive), jeans, etc.

And I can't believe after all my angst over the Gap Sexy BF jeans, I've ordered yet another pair (stop laughing at me Una!). The slimmer legs of the Catherines interest me because I do find the Gap legs borderline too big. I also know other YLFers have the Catherines and if I remember correctly, Angie had recommended them at one point. At the discounted price they are worth trying and if they don't work out, I can always sell them on consignment.

Oooohhhh...just thought of an outfit. The gold VC blouse WITH the Catherine BF jeans topped WITH the Gap furry vest and then the Doc Marcies on my feet...that could be over the top for me and might put my hubby into some sort of apoplexy - lol! Of course, I'm assuming that everything will fit and we all know what happens when you assume...

How did you hear me laughing?

I wanted that blouse in green. Am still eying the Equipment version - in case it goes on sale.

Oooh, I missed those jeans before. I might even take on another BF if they came in my size. I've avoided them up until now because, since losing weight, I just can't do saggy butt. I bet they'll look great on you, Shannon! I love the blouse, too! *plotting to see if it can fit a wardrobe hole* Can't wait to the outfit you planned plus the others I'm sure you'll come up with.

Are you kidding? Your hubby will be crowing. "It's the sexy 70s look!" (Yeah...because in addition to all those flares, I wore Levis 501s in the 70s. Just like my BF.)

This is AWESOME!! I had my eye on that gorgeous blouse, too. It is the wrong colour for me, but I think it is very cool.

Shannon, how do you find duty fees work out with these shipments? Or do you get them sent to the border and go pick up?

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Una - your laughter just carried across that wind right to my ears! I actually prefer the green colour but it wasn't availble in the petite sizing and the shoulders are almost too wide in the petite - would be huge in the regular sizing. But I do love the gold too so it's ok.

Suz - I'll be honest. The duty fees and shipping are expensive. No two ways about it. I do not go across the border - I have everything delivered to my house. I figure my time and gas in my car is worth something too! Before I press the "buy" button, I have to factor the duty and shipping into the overall budget. It becomes part of the cost of the item. But I have to be pretty darned sure it's going to fit because returning is out of the question - once you pay the return shipping, you would only get approximately 25% of the total cost refunded. However one of my consignment shop owners recently said that if I buy from Nordstrom and it doesn't work, I can take it to her to sell. I wouldn't get all of the cost obviously but at least something back.

    Thanks Beth - here's hoping!

Those jeans look great but I don't get what is boyfriend about them? The legs and butt look fitted so is it just the rolled legs?

Oh and I love that blouse!

That VC blouse is so pretty - I remember really loving the green color version when I saw it online (too bad I already have a green blouse).

That's smart of you to figure duty/shipping into the cost of your purchases. However, I can't imagine not being able to return - the major reason I shop at Nordstrom is the free shipping + returns + excellent inventory tracking. I probably keep about 10-20% of what I buy from them now - but they get more of my business because of it.

I think the BF jeans the model is wearing Susie are actually her size, but I've ordered mine up two sizes to get the baggy/slouchy fit but hopefully with slightly slimmer legs and ankles.

Sylvie - here's an example of an order from Nordie's. And please, don't get me wrong anyone - I LOVE Nordstrom and have given them much business in the past year and wil continue to do so. I merely wish the international shipping were more reasonable. I bought one of the Halogen seamed pencil skirts in what I thought was my right size. The skirt on the website was $42 but with dollar conversion, shipping and duty, my cost was $75. The skirt unfortunately did not fit and when I made arrangements for international return via Nordstrom's shipping partner, the total refund I would have received was $19. Not worth it at all. I ended up keeping it and donating it to Salvation Army.

Oh Shannon - I think we have to thank you! Am sure that a good part of the business case analysis for Nordies coming to Canada was based on the very successful mail order business! Love the VC blouse!

Correction: I said that the Kut from the Kloth Catherine BF jeans were recommended by Angie - in fact, it is the Kut from the Kloth Bardot BF jeans that were recommended by Angie.

TS: totally coincidentally I just ordered the same vc blouse in the same color yesterday! And saw it featured in the new issue of instyle mag today!!

Those jeans are going to be the perfect happy medium in BF jeans for you, I just know it. The tapered leg is so flattering. :) And how great that you could order the blouse knowing that it will fit. Yay!

  • Sylvie replied 11 years ago

Shannon, at those prices, you should make an appointment with a personal shopper and come down here during the Anniversary sale - at least until the stores open up in Canada. It will come out of the vacation budget.

I would have offered to sherpa some stuff to YLF members during my last trip but I was already sherpa-ing up a half suitcase of Amazon.com orders for a relative.

Niiiice! I am excited to see you style the vest with these! I'm yearning for another BF, too. Super distressed, with lots of rips. But I'm trying to be good...
