Thrifting Finds (pic heavy)

Had a wonderful time with hubby thrifting and going for coffee today. Here's my finds - please excuse the rather limp looking hair (cursed heat and humidity!). These aren't particularly styled well but hopefully you'll get the idea.

#1 - 4: Zara wool blend jacket in a blush/taupe shade. Asymmetrical buttoning with elastic back detail which makes it fit sort of like a peplum. For fall/winter. Can also see it with several of my bottoms including black trousers, white full length jeans and even my new Cameron BF jeans.

#5 - 6: RW & Co short sleeved black blazer. For spring/summer. Not exciting but a very useful staple for me.

#7-10/#13: Miss Style (yes...that's the name of the brand) black/grey/white glen plaid open jacket - doesn't fasten closed. It has wide bracelet length sleeves and shoulder pads. I suspect you're either gonna love this or hate this. It is not what I would call conventionally flattering but I adore the vintage vibe of this jacket and the oversized look. Also pictured with this is a black eel skin purse I thrifted today. It must have had a strap at one point but it is missing - great as a clutch.

#11: Laura Petite short sleeved animal print cardi and Fylo linen cropped trousers, rolled to be long baggy shorts (inspired by Shevia's baggy shorts). Cardigan can be worn with jeans, white jeans, citron skirt (going to be my first work pairing with it), denim skirt, black pencil skirt, etc.

#14-15: More pics of Fylo linen crops with my  Gap mesh sleeve sweater and a thrifted XOXO over sized clutch. These crops will be fab for the heat - I absolutely adore linen in the summer.

So what do you think of my finds? Anything in particular speak to you in a good way or anything you are questioning my sanity on???

Oh Shannon, I am in love with all of this!
ESPECIALLY the open jacket. I can see this working with a wide belt on top too?
AND the wool-blend jacket in #1 is so lovely.
I love the blush colour on you as I do on Sveta, and the shape of this jacket is gorgeous on you. Great Work :)

That blush jacket is my favorite by a mile.  I likee!!!!  It is wonderful how it frames your lovely face and flatters your figure.

I am wondering how the plaid coat's sleeves look at bracelet length and 3/4 length.  The sleeve width make me wonder if that's where they are supposed to hit.  I'm also wondering what it would look like if the length were an inch or two shorter so that it is more 7/8 length rather than full length.  Or would making those changes make it look too '80s?  Hmmmm.  I am generally fond of the coat's lines, but assume it was probably cut for tall types!

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

I love it all!  You are indeed the Thrifting Queen!!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

I LOVE the oversized clutch! That's my best!

The blush/tan jacket is also stellar! A little avant-garde :)

Great little basic blazer and classic animal print cardi too.

I like the plaid coat in #8 a lot! It needs shorter sleeves - to bj1111's point. I much prefer it over the frock, Shannon. The proportions do seem a little long over trousers. Does that make sense?

  • NancyT replied 10 years ago

I also love that blush jacket!  Great find.

Can I come thrifting with you next time? ;)

  • columbine(erin) replied 10 years ago

My favorite is the blush jacket. Its a flattering color and shape. I'm not sure about 7, I'd like it better with a belt maybe.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

You know, you really named your blog well. You ARE the Thrifting Queen.

I am so jealous of that Zara jacket that I don't know which way to look. When you get sick of it, please send it my way, okay?   Good. Glad we got that out of the way.

I also ADORE the oversized clutch.

I think the plaid coat will be brilliant with a few tweaks. And the other stuff will all work very well into your closet.

Great finds for a good news day!

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

I am loving that blush jacket on you. So fab! The oversize clutch is also a fab find.

You truly are the thrifting queen. I also like how all of these pieces fit you, your style, and your body. I don't feel like you compromise just because it is a thrift find.

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

Great finds - love the blush jacket.  I prefer the coat over your dress too.

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

I love the blush jacket and the linen crops!  I also look forward to seeing you style the black blazer as I'm sure you'll come up with some great outfits with it. I'm not sure about the plaid coat but it looks like fun and thrifting is the perfect way to experiment with different looks without spending too much.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Well I must admit, I'm a wee bit surprised that there's no hate for the plaid jacket. It was the one piece my hubby was "meh" about but I felt I could do something with it, you know?I will take it to Wonder Woman and have the sleeves shortened for sure.

Angie - do you think I should have a little taken off the length of the jacket too as per Donna's comment, or leave that alone? And I totally understand what you mean about it being better over the dress.

Suz - you know I would send you the Zara jacket if I thought you'd fit it but sweetie, you would SWIM in it!

I'm glad you think the oversized clutch is ok too - I was wondering if it might be a bit TOO oversized for my short frame.

And is now when I tell you I paid a total of $31.05 for ALL of this?!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

I'm not sure you should tamper with the length, Shannon. It's so perfect over that frock!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Totally trust your eye on this so will not touch the length. I'm thinking about two inches off the length of the arms.

This is where I count my lucky stars to have found Wonder Woman. Having an expert seamstress/tailor can really give a person so many more options since you know things can be tweaked.

Do you think it can also work as an early fall outdoor jacket to just throw on with jeans (as long as I'm wearing heels) or should stay with the dress only version?

  • shedev replied 10 years ago

Shannon, I'm in awe of your thrifting skills. Especially like the Zara jacket and the clutch.

  • Sona replied 10 years ago

ok ok ok can I just say how excited I am. I looked at the first jacket, fell in love and thought "avant garde, timeless" and then later read the posts and Angie also calle dit avant-garde. I'm learning!!

The plaid is ' so in' oversized, zipperless, vintage but new again.

I see so many trends from the NAS catalog in your picks. fabulous Ms. great eye for thrifting!!

  • Cindy replied 10 years ago

Great finds! I *LOVE* the first jacket and the glen plaid topper!

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Shannon I cannot believe the success you have thrifting:) You are consistently more successful than moi:)

Love the blush jacket. It's a little alternate and avant garde, I like it and I think it's a peice, like your EF cardigan, that will add that little bit of difference I think you are craving.

Black jacket.. super. Great fit and necessary item.

Plaid jacket... Im drooling lol. It is stunning. I too think the proportions work best over the skirt/dress. Over pants, the length of it shortens your legs and the proportions are a bit off BUT I would be interested to see it open over a skinny leg pant/jean with heels (which I realise youa re not really wearing anymore).

All purchases are fab but I can't move on from the plaid jacket :)

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

You Shannon are a thrifter after my own heart. I love the Zara jacket and the clutches, but everything else is a well chosen winner too. When are we going to have a global thrifting meet up?

  • rae replied 10 years ago

So... you need to find the woman donating all these things and become BFFs forever. That way you can skip the shopping and raid her closet! I especially love the first jacket.

  • pil replied 10 years ago

Talk about separating the wheat from the chaff, you really have some treasures here. The Zara jacket is glorious on you in #2.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

I have simply GOT to come visit you and go thrifting! Great finds!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

    Global. Thrifting. Meetup.

Three words that bring happiness to my heart and only some very minor confusion to my pocketbook. Surely that is what airline points are for?

Who is in? Shevia, Suz, Shannon, for sure. We need Claire and Rae and Amiable, too. Who else? :-)

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

    I'm in!

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

The long dramatic plaid jacket is my favorite, followed by the oversized clutch (it's so "Angie"). The long coat reminds me of what Kate Middleton had be sporting lately - not a good look on me, but definitely looks flattering on you :)

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Yes!  Wonderful finds!  I'm drooling over the Zara jacket and the big clutch.  Everything else is terrific too - you have a knack for seeing potential in things - I haven't figured that one out yet :)

I am SO IN for the global thrifting meetup!

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Amazing finds! Love Zara jacket, so elegant and it is a new color for , isn't it?
Like Angie I much prefer the long plaid jacket over the dress...but I think it can look good with skinnies and heels as well. Worth a try anyway.
Sooo... we sorted it out that Suz would swim in Zara jacket...but I won't so you can send it to me when you are tired of it! :-)
I am really in awe of your thrifting. Either you are a genius or you have amazing thrifting haunts in your city...very likely both!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Maybe more than two inches off the sleeves!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

    *clapping hands*

Oh, I'm so pleased you like my finds :)

Sona - I'm excited to hear that I have some of the NAS trends. Who knew?

Deborah - if I tire of the plaid jacket, I'll send it your way, ok?

Shevia - a global thrifting meetup - BRILLIANT idea!

Sveta - the blush jacket is indeed a different colour for me and at first I worried it might wash me out a little, but I think it's ok. And if I decide at some point to pass it on, I know where to send it.

I do like the idea of trying the plaid jacket over skinnies and heels too - once the heat of summer is gone of course.

Angie - where do you think the sleeve length should end on the plaid jacket? I'm guessing about two inches below the elbow?

Thanks everyone for indulging me in showing you my new "treasures".

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Lol, we are here to indulge and enable :)  Thinking about your EF cardigan purchase and this coat in particular, I am wondering if I am seeing a little more "drama'" starting to come into your outfits?

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 10 years ago

Wonderful finds, love that tan/blush jacket! Great score and you've gotta love that price!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Thrifting can be so much fun. I'm envious that your hubby enjoys it too. Did he find anything for himself?
Of course I like your blush jacket. You may find that it will be your new favorite light neutral. Using the bag as an oversized clutch is fab. I also like your Shevia inspired baggy linens. You are going to have lots of fun styling all your new pieces.

  • rute replied 10 years ago

Amazing finds! Love everything except the Fylo linen crops, I'm not loving.. the rolled part is too bulky.. not a 10!

  • donnat replied 10 years ago

Great finds, I am positively green over the clutch and the Zara jacket. I think you are going to enjoy the plaid as well, it will look great with skinnies in the fall.

  • Debora replied 10 years ago

Great finds, Shannon! LOVE the blush jacket and the oversize clutch. I could see the plaid jacket with 3/4 length sleeves, and the short sleeved black jacket will be a workhorse for you. Great linen crops, too. Well done, Thrifting Queen!

  • chewyspaghetti replied 10 years ago

Nice finds- I especially like the beige jacket

  • texstyle replied 10 years ago

Great shopping Shannon - so jealous some of you have such wonderful thrifting skills and stores. The only thing that made me pause was the plaid coat jacket, but I don't hate it - just wondered about the drama as Deborah mentioned. if you love it, then I think it will be a fun vintage style piece. I do much prefer it over a dress rather than pants due to the long length. That blush jacket is fantastic on you and the clutch is also so perfect.

  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago

Wow, the blush jacket is  really really gorgeous. Cut, color, collar, fit ,and all! The plaid one is looking good on dresses, but sorry, I don't really feel it over pants, it's adding too much bulk, or so...:-(. Other are also very good finds! And just  have to love the biggest animal clutch I've ever seen in my life!:-)

  • replied 10 years ago

I can't believe I missed this! I love the jackets Shannon. That plaid one would be so much fun with gumball pearls, a fur collar or a big scarf! Love the bags and the rest of the loot as well. Please include me in the Global Thrifting Meetup I will travel and update my passport if necessary! PS, the printed clutch needs a name. ;)
