WIW: To go to Ikea

I think I must be one of the last people in the Western Hemisphere who hasn't been to Ikea - so MIL and I headed out this afternoon on a cloudy afternoon to see what all the fuss was about. I think I spent about $10,000 in under 20 minutes in my head!

I wore these distressed denim crops with my Gap grey mesh sleeve sweater faux tucked with my snakeskin belt. For footwear, I chose my bone laser cut oxfords. And I'm debuting my oversized animal print clutch that I thrifted yesterday - no time to waste!

So what do you think? does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Sweater: Gap
Denim crops: Vigoss (thrifted)
Clutch: XOXO (thrifted)
Shoes: Dolce Vita

totally works!  You look terrific and ready to take on IKEA!

  • Glory replied 10 years ago

Shannon you crack me up! No time to waste! I must put that on a sticky in my room - maybe that is the mantra of Team Wear.
Love your selection for your first time to Ikea - lots of fun home decor to look at. Perhaps something lovely came home with you. :)

Shannon, you look better than most of the people in my IKEA. Hope you didn't break the bank! By the way, I love the clutch! YLF :)

That is one fabulous clutch, Shannon. Your thrift store is a treasure trove for sure! Love it that you guys went on a little adventure today. Ikea is extremely tempting, I can never get out of there without spending more than I had originally planned... This is the perfect Ikea outfit, great touch with the distressed jeans, it shows that you mean business;-) I also love this sweater silhouette on you, and the bone laser cut oxfords finish off the look perfectly (so Summery and fun).

Ikea should match your awesomeness! You look perfect for the outing. We have a huge Ikea near the MOA, haven't been there yet, but remember my Mom (years ago) staying up *all night* looking at their catalog! I offered to take her there, but she wasn't feeling well enough to go :(

Shannon, you asked yesterday whether the clutch was too big. Well, it certainly is not. In fact, the effect of it is just to make you look even more fit and slender than before! How the heck does that work? It's just your thrifting magic taken to extremes, I guess.

Ah, Ikea. It is an adventure all its own and one not to be missed.

Perfect outfit. I love the shoes. I have seen oxfords in the stores but didn't know how I would .wear them

Lovely.  Casual chic.  In honour of IKEA you should name your outfit: how about "Elkeborgen".

#1 is a nice outfit but #2 is spectacular with the clutch!

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

great outfit Shannon. I dont think we have an Ikea near me so I havent been to one but I'd love to go.

You KNOW I love me a gray sweatshirt!  I think you look fab!

Glory - I used to be a member of "Bought It Today But Will Wait Months to Wear It Team" and now I'm a bonafide member of Team Wear. That's the power of YLF!

Inge - I don't normally wear anything distressed but somehow it seemed appropriate in these casual summer crops, you know? So "distressed" equals "business" does it???

Cindy - I would have sworn 8 months ago I would never wear oxfords but I have completely fallen in love with their look and versatility. Now I wear them with various bottoms, skirts and dresses. Never say never!

    Nicole - love it!

MaryK - oh I DO in fact know!

I had a clerk in Ikea and the young lady at Starbuck's both tell me they loved my clutch handbag. I must say, I felt rather fashionable today running around and that used to be very unusual when I was dressed casually. Just adding the more fashionable handbag and footwear made a huge difference in how I felt in my outfit. Then adding the snakeskin belt and a faux tuck and BAM...I felt good. And yet I was still basically just wearing jeans and a sweatshirt. It really is all in the details and the fit, isn't it?

Thank you for your lovely feedback :)

    KILLER

I say IKEA never had anyone enter their store looking so fab :) xo

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 10 years ago

It is perfect except for one tiny thing...how can you carry a clutch to Ikea??  I need both hands to touch things.  :)

I was at Ikea today too.  I think around noon so may have just missed you.  Don't you just love the kitchens and closets?

  • Aida replied 10 years ago

How cute are you! Great little casual outfit, and I do quite like the oversized-ness of that clutch. Gives the casual outfit an extra punch up!

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Well I cannot count how many times I have been to Ikea and I only wish I ever saw someone there looking so fab. How did you find it carrying the clutch while shopping? I am sure I would leave it somewhere if I tried.

  • ManidipaM replied 10 years ago

You make casual look thoughtfully designed. Your DIY looks so much more fun than theirs!

I too am curious about the logistics of shopping with a clutch. I've wanted to ask Angie about that too. Do you just tuck it under your arm? I'm such a tactile shopper that I find I need to keep my bags tucked away from my hands.

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

I love this oversized clutch for you - it looks so very edgy!

I love Ikea. Their frozen yogurts and hot dogs and meat balls and little potato and broccoli patties, their salmon and ... oh yeah, the furniture is good too. :) I totally go to Ikea to eat. And eat. And eat. And $1 breakfast!

My house is mainly Ikea furnishings! I also love Ikea HK! :) Their hot dogs and frozen yogurts are only 0.75 HKD (which is about 1/8 of the price here). They are a bit smaller though, but so GOOD. (and I can have 8).

Perfect IKEA outfit!  I can only wish and hope we get one here someday - I love IKEA.

  • Aida replied 10 years ago

(Shopping with a clutch isn't hard, I just tuck mine under my arm. If I really need to, I'll set it on the ground or on a rack :) )

  • abc replied 10 years ago

YLF (adore that sweater) and guess what, I went to Ikea for the first time in 3+ years today!

I am with you, I think I spent the same amount as you (in my head, of course).

It's funny, Ikea is kind of exciting in that you can dress your home and apply some of the design principles learned on YLF - mixing colors, patterns, textures, etc.

    Such fun!

Perfect casual outfit and perfect for Ikea! I love Ikea, almost too much. Most stuff in my appartement is Ikea, it's just the cheapest way to furnish a flat with style. Berlin has four Ikea stores!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

For those who have asked, no problems at all shopping with a clutch. As Aida mentioned, I just tuck it under my arm and go. Both hands are still free to touch things. In fact, I almost find a clutch easier because over the shoulder bags slip off the shoulder when bending down to look at something and cross body bags I find I'm constantly pushing to the side when bending down and reaching up.

And I didn't buy a single thing at Ikea!!! But I got some great ideas for next home.
