Outfit for Kristin's Wedding - which version?

My friend Kristin's wedding is Friday afternoon. It's a relatively small wedding (under 100 guests) being held in a garden setting, with the reception to follow in a fairly casual reception hall. I had already decided to wear my blue lace dress to the wedding and am just ironing out the accessories detail. For sure I will be wearing my diamond stud earrings and a cocktail ring. I cannot wear a necklace with the lace dress because of the necklace catching on the lace. I have decided however to wear one of my vintage brooches instead.

So here are my two versions - one includes my green Poetic Licence pumps, a newly purchased clutch with blues and greens in it, and a blue/green vintage flower brooch. The other version includes my newly thrifted red patent pumps and my red clutch, with a vintage silver and faux diamond brooch.

You may not care for either of these version as they are not very "blingy" but they suit my style at this point and I'm comfortable in either one.

Which one do you prefer?

Yay = green shoe version
Nay = red shoe version

I like the green shoes version as its a bit more unique and unexpected. Both look very nice on you, however:)

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

I honestly love them both but the Red combo speaks to me so I voted for it. The dress is beyond gorgeous and you look amazing either way. Great touches.

Green shoes - much more unexpected and fun!

  • replied 11 years ago

I am torn -- the green shoes are fun, but the red and shiny just speaks to me more!

  • replied 11 years ago

Red shoe and clutch version by a thousand percent, IMO.

  • Echo replied 11 years ago

It's interesting that I like all the elements in the green version better separately, but together in an outfit, I prefer the red. Either way, you can't go wrong, though; it is a beautiful dress and you look fantastic.

  • Mellllls replied 11 years ago

red and shiny for a wedding!

  • DonnaF replied 11 years ago

The red photographs better, but I would ALWAYS be seeking excuses to wear those green shoes and carry that bag since they are so unique! What is the impact IRL? Of course, you understand that as a wedding guest, you're not supposed to be the star, LOL!

The green shoes read a little wintry to me when combined with the lace. The effect is very heavy brocade to my eye.

The shiny red feels much lighter, more summery, and cheerful. Plus, the brooch on that one sort of looks like a bouquet!

  • Glory replied 11 years ago

I am on team green - the blues and greens remind me of Monet which seems so perfect for a garden wedding.

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

I like them both: I would be tossing a coin for sure!
The only thing I would do is to remove the brooch: I feel the dress itself is so elegant it does not need any embellishment - but I am on a minimal accessory streak lately...:-)
If you wear earrings you can wear some sparkly of dangly ones to bring attention to the beautiful neckline and your lovely face. A cuff wold look great with this dress as well
    Have fun!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

DIttoing every word that Sveta said!

OR...if you want the brooch...how about a small cluster of brooches? Somehow this feels like both too much or not enough, know what I mean? But two or three grouped together might give a different vibe.

You look so beautiful in this dress, and either way, you win.

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Suz, what a clever idea about a cluster of brooches - and move them closer to the shoulder!

  • celia replied 11 years ago

I cannot resist the matchyness of the red outfit but either one would be lovely and that lace dress is amazing on you.
I would also keep the brooch off .The dress speaks for itself and you can always wear a cuff, I like the idea of studed earrings though, the clean lines apeal more to me than some longer blingier ones.
But that's just me.Have fun and congratulations to Kristin.

I love the green shoes for an afternoon garden wedding! The dress is gorgeous.

  • fern replied 11 years ago

The first combo wins my heart!
You look amazing in that dress, either version.

  • Freckles replied 11 years ago

Which shoes would be better on the grass? Both Suz and I had problems last summer with our shoes at a garden party (separate events). Never again! You have to stand on such an angle that it is awfully uncomfortable.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Oh dear...I was hoping I would know exactly which way to go by now, but I'm still really torn. I do like the idea of either a cluster of brooches or none at all. If no brooches, then a cuff instead. I will definitely be wearing my diamond stud earrings. I find dangly ones just compete with my glasses. Need to think some more.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Good question about grass but guess what? The "garden" is actually an indoor conservatory in a park so no grass under my feet.

  • Krista replied 11 years ago

**trying to get up from the floor after first view of the green shoes**

...... my vote is the green/blue option but I've made it quite public over the last few weeks that I cannot resist that color combination.

    **still on the floor, btw**

  • Freckles replied 11 years ago

The red all the way and not because I'm a fan of red. I agree that the red look more fun summer wedding. I also agree with Suz and Sveta about the broach.

    YAH for no grass :)

  • Jem replied 11 years ago

I LOVE the blue/green combination, but also think the shiny red shoes might be a bit more wedding-y, if that makes sense.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

I voted for the green and do like the brooch. I love the clutch and the brooch picks up one of the colors. But even if you go with the red you will look fab!

  • jen replied 11 years ago

    Team green :)

  • Debora replied 11 years ago

My gosh, what a gorgeous dress! I Love both shoes - the green are so fun - but I think I am leaning towards the more conservative red and letting the dress be the star piece. How about the first bag with the red shoes?

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

I am surprising myself by preferring the red! Normally I would be all over the quirky accessories in the green version, but something about the particular red and blue shades in the red version is just amazing.

ETA: they are both fab though so you can't go wrong either way.

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Shannon, I have an idea: you can wear your green shoes to the ceremony and swap them for red ones for the reception! :-)

  • replied 11 years ago

I thought at the beginning that I would be voting for green with the blue for sure, but I much prefer the materials/fabrication of the smooth patent red pieces with the lace dress, which actually reads a bit blue-grey to me. Gorgeous! Do you have a pearl strand? They are usually smooth and wouldn't be a problem with the lace.

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

Green for me! But I do like both!

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

    #2

  • MNsara replied 11 years ago

What fun! You can't go wrong with either one, and others have great ideas for brooch cluster, cuff, etc.

I just want to say that the red slightly edges out the green for me! I love the peep toe, shiny patent of both clutch and shoes, and the cheery summery feel they give.

    You'll be one fab-dressed lady :-)

  • velvetychocolate replied 11 years ago

I *love* those green shoes, and initially thought I'd vote for green ...

I looked, looked again and re-looked.

I vote red. The green is just fab, but somehow the red is just little bit better for this particular dress, this particular occasion etc.

    Tough call!

Still though, after looking and re-looking, as much as I love that shade of green (especially with midnight blue), the red accessories are "wow" in a way that the green can't quite compete with. Just a teensy bit better, and only by a hair. Go for the red, imo.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Shannon both are stellar! But as I was one to suggest your green shoes for this ensemble I am sticking with them:). The red shoes and clutch are stunning and similar to what I wore to a wedding in January, with a black satin sheath dress, so of course I really like it, but it is the unexpectedness of #1 that really grabs me. It is more interesting, with a hint of fun about it and I think it reflects your personality more. I also feel it is suitable for the venue and time of the wedding. I would remove the broach. Seriously though, you will look absolutely fab in either outfit...but green would be my choice :)

  • Marley replied 11 years ago

Shannon - first of all you look gorgeous! I mean just stunning! Second - I'm not going to be any help at all because I like both versions. I think that the green is a little more unexpected - and that purse is gorgeous so I'd probably lean toward that one a little bit more than the red. However I like the shininess of the red - and the contrast in textures between your dress and your shoes . . . so . . .

  • RoseandJoan replied 11 years ago

    Oh Shannon you look stunning!

I LOVE the green shoes with the ink blue dress but the blue clutch reads as too pastel to stand up to the intensity of the other colours.

I actually think the blue dress + green shoes + red clutch would be a fabulous combination and would require no jewellery for pizazz.

  • ramya replied 11 years ago

REd looks amazing that said I like the green shoes...

I vote for red shoes, no brooch and a cuff...

  • Ornella replied 11 years ago

You can't go wrong with either. I'm not of much help, am I :-)

  • rute replied 11 years ago

I vote 2! More chic for a wedding!

  • texstyle replied 11 years ago

I know I'm late but I looked and looked again and I still prefer the green. As others have said the green is more unique and I think more current, and that purse - wow, love that!

The new wrap dress is also very pretty, more casual but very pretty. In the end, I'd say go with what you feel best wearing. Any of the options you are considering would be great. You should be comfortable and confident so you have fun.
