Orange, taupe & shades of white

Thanks to Angie and YLF, I'm really enjoying mixing shades of white, bone and cream this season. Funny how something that used to be considered a bit of a fashion faux pas is now not only acceptable, but stylish.

Today's outfit started with my white sized up skinnies rolled as BF's to which I added my bright orange slouchy light weight knit sweater. I chose my snakeskin belt in shades of taupe to add some visual interest with pattern - wasn't feeling the white belt this morning for some reason. Then to further pick up the taupe in the belt, I chose my taupe peep toe laceless oxfords for footwear. For my handbag, I went with my cream satchel. Jewelry is my gold oversized watch and gold wedding ring.

What do you think? Does the snakeskin belt work here? Are the proportions ok? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Sweater: Cleo Petite
Jeans: Jessica Simpson
Belt: Olsen Europe
Shoes: Boutique 9
Handbag: Danier Leather

P.S. I'm taking some things to a consignment shop today for the first time. I tried on my green Poetic Licence pumps and cobalt patent Kate Spade pumps last night and my knee and bunion will just NOT accommodate those pretty shoes anymore. So sad :( I also have a BCBGMaxAzria wrap dress I've never worn (still has the price tags on it) so it's going too, as well as a few other good items. I'm hoping to make enough to buy the Chelsea boots I was eyeing which would round out my booties wardrobe assuming the Ara ones on order fit as my dressy version.

Wow....love it.....I really like neutrals but this pop of orange is fresh and summery and zingy :)

Looks really nice Shannon! I really like your decision to add taupe to the mix.

Shannon- you wear the bright of the sweater beautifully. I like the cream and taupe supporting roles also. The semi-tuck adds some zing!

    Polished look!

Ooh - one of my favorite combos!  I like it on me too :)

    Looks terrific, Shannon!

That is such a shame about the shoes. But onwards!

And I had wondered about that dress. You got it with your MIL, right? Out shopping last summer, close to the end of season? I thought it looked pretty fab on you at the time...but perhaps the fit is not good now.

Oh thank you ladies :) I'm feeling pretty snappy in this ensemble. I could see orange becoming a favorite pop of color for me.

Wow Suz - impressive memory! Yep - that's the dress. Shades of blue, beautiful dress really. The fit isn't good now as I had put on some weight and bulk since buying it. But I'll be honest - I'm now thinking of keeping it to fit in a bit. What do you think?

I am not a proponent generally of keeping motivational clothing, but if you have the room and love the dress and aren't going to feel stressed out by having it in your closet, what is the harm in keeping it?

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

I agree with you Ceit - I have learned not to keep stuff that doesn't fit. And now that I've thought about it a bit more, nope - it's going to consignment. It's a lovely dress but I remember having a few nagging doubts even when I bought it - it's a little too slinky and body con for work and just isn't "me".

Like Suz said about the shoes...onward... :)

This looks great on you, Shannon. I like the way the taupe adds a more sophisticated, less sporty touch. The orange top is your color. Do you have a winter sweater or sweat shirt this color?

Orange and white look great together. Love that bag, Shannon!

So fab Shannon! You glow in that sweater. My eye has adjusted to creams and whites too, funny isn't it? You have mixed them to perfection.

A fresh and beautiful Summer combination. Crisp, simple elegance. And you definitely bat for Team Polished.

Sorry to hear about your pumps that no longer work for you, Shannon. On that note, I passed on the shoes you are wearing here about 18 months ago because they no loner work for me. That's the way it goes.

Great outfit, I like the happy color from the orange here.  The patterns and colors work fine for me.

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

I really like the taupe accents with the orange.  Looks perfect to me.

Beautiful colors here.  Love the subtle mix of snakeskin, too.  I've got my white jeans and bermudas on the clothesline now --- they've seen a lot of service this Summer, as have yours!

I can still wear a good 3 inch heel, as long as I'm not doing too much walking, but I've retired anything much higher than that myself.  Healthy feet are something to protect!  We still have lots of places to go and lots of wonderful things to do!

Another winner from you, Shannon! I love the neutrals against the bright sweater.

Too bad about the shoes! I think you could keep the dress a little longer, no harm in that. If it makes you just a little sad to part with it, then don't. It will fit you before you know it!

One of my favorite color combinations for summer. It works so well for your coloring! I love this on you.

  • texstyle replied 10 years ago

This looks really great - that bright orange with the neutrals is a wonderful combination - esp. on you. I think I'm going to try and copy this look!

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

Love this on you!  fresh and crisp with a bright happy pop of color. So pretty!

Sorry about the shoes and dress. But, I am glad you are doing what is best for your knee.  And, as with all things, clothes come and clothes go. Part of the journey!

Love! Did not read just looked. Gorgeous!

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Love it, Shannon! I am with you, finally mixing whites and loving it. I cannot believe I spent so many years blowing steam out my ears whenever my whites did not match. SO fab with your orange.

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

Really chic and flattering Shannon!  The jeans and open toe heeled oxfords can do no wrong in my book.

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

Beautiful TS, really beautiful :) I love that you are really concentrating on what works for you - it really shows :)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

My apologies for not getting back to this thread last night - don't you wish we all had more time for YLF??? :)

Angie - I'm sad about the pumps but at the same time, kind of liberated by realizing they won't work anymore and just moving forward. I noticed I hadn't seen the Boutique 9's on you for quite some time. There's no room in our lives or our closets for things that don't work, is there?

Thanks for the outfit love all - I'm quite enjoying playing in my closet these days.
