My latest EF obsessions

Been browsing at my favorite EF eBay seller's site and have a few things on my wish list in my size (all new with tags):

Pics 1 and 2: a silvery silk blazer. Wouldn't this be a nice change from black? And it could be dressed up for holiday and dressy affairs, and then paired with simple black trousers or pencil skirt for work. Could even look funky with a simple white tee and BF jeans.

Pics 3 and 4: a waxed cotton moto jacket. This would be a much lighter indoor jacket then a leather moto and is machine washable. I had originally considered adding a black leather moto to my jacket collection but I really like this option instead.

Pic 5: suede leather cut out booties. Although overall the heel is 3 inches, there is a 1 inch platform inside so only a 2 inch pitch for my foot, which is doable. These would be a nice change from my Docs and Chelsea boots.

Anyway...not sure I'm actually gonna go for anything although hubby mentioned he still hasn't bought my Christmas present...anything here look good to you for me and my closet???

I fell for the silvery jacket straight away... so versatile and pretty!

I really like that moto jacket, out of the three. I think having a lightweight option to wear inside would be great. And machine washable? Sounds awesome.

Fainting over that moto! I have several EF pieces on my wishlist. Here's hoping they reach an affordable level after Christmas when I still have 4 months of winter ;)

I saw that moto jacket in the store and wish I had gone back for it. Light weight jackets are hard to find. I like the silvery one too. It would look great with jeans. Is it linen? If so, that might be a seasonally confused fabric for holiday time but be wonderful with white next summer.

I love the booties and the moto jacket. The silver jacket I would find less versatile than the other two pieces.

I adore both jackets.  You will get a lot of wear out of both.  I would be weary of the shoes.  An option that is "doable" may not be the best choice for you right now.

I am going to be the spanner this time.  I find the silvery jacket looks "crumpled" and I am not sure that fits with your ladylike esthetic.  You have an amazing collection of beautifully fitting leather jackets so I have to wonder if the black waxed cotton will add dimension to your wardrobe or duplicate a piece you already have.  The booties are nice (all of the pieces are nice) but as with the moto, are they sufficiently different from the booties you have to add a new element to your choices?

And last, are you more into jackets these days or softer third pieces?  I know you are loving the EF cardigans (and they love you back), so I wonder if you are moving a bit away from jackets.

So, having said all of that, if you love any of them, then of course you should have them.  But if you want "something" because you have been a very good girl, then perhaps think about your pared down wardrobe and see if there are any pieces that would add versatility and fun to what you have now.

well I like each if these very much. The crinkle jacket his very cool but I suggest it might be one of those things that you couldn't be sure off until you try on. Some items like this can be a little stiff and not flattering of ones shape, however I wouldn't expect that of an EF garment.

The moto is also gorgeous. I have a light abstract patterned moto that is a fab third piece. It works over pants, skirts and dresses and is a wonderful indoor / office jacket. This is definitely worth considering.

I like the boots. They look a bit chunky but that could work well and they are a nice change to your docs and chelseas:).

Hmmm I am no help. I like to see to see you try all of these lol.

I really like all these pieces.

I like all three pieces too.  I'm wondering about the length of the silver jacket on you though.....

I will say too that the black moto, albeit a nice piece, isn't really anything new or different from any other black jacket you might have, is it?  Pardon me if I'm off base - I'm having a severe case of no-more black jackets and pants syndrome.

I really like the lightweight moto and the booties but am less sure about the blazer after studying Pic #2.  The button and pocket are in an odd high location which I don't find particularly flattering.  I'm just not sure that this jacket will work for you, much less be a *10*.

Shannon - I have the moto. Runs big. Very nice and perfect light topper. A couple of reviewers said the wax dis colored their tops, so I've only worn it with black underneath but I have not noticed any rub off. Also like denim washing may take off the finish. I like mine a lot. I think it's a great piece. You can see http://www.unefemme.net for a review and pics!

I think the silvery one looks much more taupey on my monitor and is too crinkly at that length for you.
The moto could be fun if you don't have enough cotton toppers, but might dupe jackets you have. I had it in my cart at one point because I don't get as  much wears from leather, but talked myself down from black, and from moto style, which I can mostly only wear with the right dress, not pants.
So you might want to think whether to save your EF $$ for those unstructured comfortable but well-designed items she does so well in good fabrics. More strategic that toppers, I think.

Hmmm. These look like summer weight jackets. Not a bad thing in itself.

Have you ever had a coated cotton jacket? I had one (admittedly from H&M) and I did not enjoy the texture on myself -- it was "hard" and not pleasant to touch to me. I ended up giving it to my stepdaughter. It was especially unpleasant to me in colder weather. I liked it fine in early autumn.

Just a note in case. I do like the look of all of these items, and it's always so much fun to dream and plan.

Back to say that I forgot the booties.  Love the booties.

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 9 years ago

I had a silver crumpled effect EF jacket about two years ago, with a related gunmetal silk crumpled effect skirt. My jacket was linen with metal threads so this might not be the same piece. I loved the idea of it, but was never as thrilled with it on me. The fit was very boxy, and somehow the crumpled look really called for a more tailored fit. So I had it tailored, and the sleeves shortened. It was better but still not fabulous. I eventually gave up and took it to consignment.

I like the boots and jacket. I picked up a black coated cloth moto jacket for indoor wear this fall (not EF) and have gotten a lot of use out of it.

Thank you so much for all of your valuable feedback. Although I think the silver-taupe jacket is lovely, not practical and probably not a great fit on my body type. Out of the cart.

The waxed cotton jacket I'm still mulling over. I don't mind the texture waxed fabric and what actually appeals to me is the lighter weight than leather. Although it may be considered a warmer weather jacket and not winter friendly, I'm looking at it to be worn as an indoor jacket much like a blazer. In that sense, the weight is spot on.

The booties I'm crazy in love with. Chunky yes, but I can carry off chunky...hmmmm...that doesn't sound flattering but you know what I mean - lol! And although the word "doable" sounds iffy, I really should have said that the two inch height would not be a problem.

    Still pondering...

I love the silver jacket and the boots! Oooh, those boots... haha. I may have to try and figure out which seller you follow. :)

I have a jacket in the same waxed cotton, and it is very lightweight. To Suz's point, not a bad thing in itself. If I remember that jacket from Nordies days, it is also pretty boxy.
