WIW: Fluidity & Structure

Today's outfit is all about combining fluidity and structure which for me, is the perfect outfit combination. I don't like too much of either in an outfit.

I started off with my EF faux wrap front drapey trousers. I wish black photographed better so you could see the wrap front. I combined the trousers with my black/white ballerina drapey tee, which sadly is on its last legs. I have worn the heck out of this $20 tee! Ok…so there we have a lot of fluidity.

Then I brought in the structure which my white leather jacket. The structure of the jacket keeps me from feeling sloppy in all the fluid garments and gives me back a bit of a waist. Ahhhhh….the magic of a jacket…

I finished off the outfit with my Doc boots and my black/cream very structured handbag. Red specs and lipstick and I'm ready to go.

What do you think? Does it all work together? Does it look current? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

    Shannon, it absolutely works!!

I love how in this new streamlined version of your wardrobe you are combining your old loves (structure, jackets, plus boots) with your new loves (trousers, fluidity, drape, softness.) It's a winning combination for both comfort and flattery.

That's a fab outfit and it looks comfortable, too.

The drapey trousers are excellent and the white jacket looks great here. The graphic t-shirt fits the idea perfectly but so would any of the black and white slogan tees from Angie's post today!

I always find black and white to be appealing in its simplicity.  I also really like the combination of the tougher boots with the ladylike bag.  Nice outfit.

Gorgeous Shannon!  Plus what Suz said.  A winning combo.

Suz - I think I'm morphing into a hybrid of "old" Shannon and "new" Shannon!

Shevia - I'm thinking I might need an upscale black and white slogan tee, don't you?

Dianthus - black and white will ALWAYS be my favorite color combination.

    Thanks Joyce and Elizabeth :)

Fabulous. You rock black and white. What a fun graphic tee. Jackets are magical structural pieces, aren't they. xo

Love that graphic tee and jacket combo! Let the morphing unfold! Loving it!

Too many exclamation marks maybe? :)

Seriously coveting your white leather jacket, fantastic with the black pants.  Yes, you definitely need a black tee with a white slogan. Or a white tee with a black slogan. What's it going to say?

Hi Shannon.  I just wanted to chime in again to say that I just read your recent couple of posts, and rather than bump them, figured I'd just add to this one.  Huge cyber hugs from the other side of the country.  Like many, your style is something I look forward to seeing each and every day, and miss you very much when you're busy and not posting.  It's hard to hear you're not seeing the beautiful stylish woman we are.  But I understand completely... I'm also in a place of increased weight.  And totally brought on myself, which is so stupid.  And I hate it.  But I'm too tired and busy to even think about making any changes in my newly developed bad habits...  Hopefully Christmas will give me the rest and recharge _I_ need.  And maybe it will for you too.

Anyway, I have much admiration for you for taking the bull by the horns and doing a huge closet reshuffle.  It was a great suggestion.  And honestly, I look forward to seeing lots of repeats from you, because you have a wonderful wardrobe, I know you'll mix things up and present yourself in a way that we'll really have to LOOK for the repeats!

    Take care...

Oh this outfit is so fab! You encouraged me to get this jacket too andyou inspire me again to mix it is so successfully this time with the drapey! Another gold star outfit.

Love the combination of fabrics and structure here. The jacket in particular looks stunning on you.

Fantastic outfit, Shannon. I like the structure of the jacket over the drapier tee and pants. Your Docs add a little funky touch, and the purse seems a subtle reference to your old love of retro looks. Everything works together for a unique look that is totally you.
I hate to see the ballet tee go. A slogan tee would give a different feel to the outfit; I'm picturing it as being more edgy looking that way. (The design on this tee is so feminine and fluid looking, in comparison to the sharper look of a graphic slogans that I've seen.)

You have an expert hand at gorgeous black and white looks!  This one is no exception.  White leather is such a luxurious choice -- ladylike and rocker all in one!

Gorgeous outfit. Does it get better than black and white. I really like that Tshirt and sorry to hear it's on it's last legs.

  • lyn67 replied 9 years ago

That tee is a lovely statement piece and  we always love a stylish black and white outfit like yours here on the YLF! Great pop of color with the specs and lipstick:-)

Of course it works.  And you look like you've LOST weight to me.  I think you're a master of what suits you and deploy it to great effect.  :)
