I pre-hated my outfit

I just realized that the outfit I'm wearing today (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....-snakeskin) I would have absolutely hated a few short years ago.

In my pre YLF days, I equated fashion or style with a completely different set of parameters. Style meant items were not necessarily comfortable, were more form fitting, were higher heeled, were more what were on the "10 things you should wear" kind of lists, etc.

But today I'm wearing slouchy trousers (should never wear on a 5 foot tall curvy lady); voluminous horizontal striped sweater (should never wear on a 5 foot tall curvy lady); light coloured low heeled booties (short ladies should wear high heels to look taller and brunettes should not wear light coloured footwear). Nothing is uncomfortable, overly hot or fussy.

YLF - look what you've done to me? You have opened my eyes to all sorts of style possibilities and the joy of breaking style "rules"! Talk about a complete mind shift.

YLF has been good to you. That is a great observation, Shannon!
    Makes my own mind think...

That's a great realization, Shannon! My 'rules' also were drastically changed by YLF. I played it much safer before with color, pattern, and cut. But I'm also paying way much more attention to details and fit now, I think that's why it works.

You are lucky you're in Canada, Shannon, or I'd steal everything you're wearing today!

Did you used to wear only high heels and so forth? Interesting observations (!)

Yep Rachy - always high heels with pantyhose and pumps, pencil skirts, very fitted tops with an equally fitted blazer on top. I was also very matchy-matchy, but not in a modern way.

I still like heels (I do have my green Poetic License pumps after all) but a much funkier version and wear them less and less. I also still like pencil skirts but enjoy volume over top. And blazers will always have a significant part of my wardrobe love but again, now a much more modern interpretation.

Shannon, I cannot even imagine !!

And pumps only in black! Seriously Rachy - I never owned any shoes other than in black - how boring is that???

What a cool realization during your style journey! I love your outfit today and am seeing you really enjoy exploring the possibilities :)

I love your outfit today and just had to chime in that I always thought you were taller than 5'. Seriously, like at least taller than myself (5'2"). Maybe it's because you're standing next to the floor lamp and you're taller than it?

Anyway, cheers to looking tall in your pics! ;-)

This post makes me smile, Shannon, and I LOVE your outfit (which I missed, of course, since I'm so MIA around here).

Can't imagine you in the clothes you describe Shannon - the colours & styles you wear now seem to match your relaxed, warm personality. Do you think the changes to your clothing have changed the way you express or feel about yourself? Do you feel more "you" inside & out? Just musing as always:)

Shannon, you've come such a long way... you are an inspiration to me.

Shannon, your outfits are the high point of the style day for me, every day. I just love your style and I'll bet everybody who works with you can't wait to see what you're going to wear.

Wow!! Your outfits are always a high point of my morning, too, and I can't imagine what a change you have been through!! Your co-workers and husband must be reeling with the difference. I know your hubs appreciates it. I know sometimes the co-workers have not...but this does put some of the comments into perspective.

My change has been almost as dramatic in the sense that I just didn't shop or wear anything other than a pair of yoga pants and one ill fitting pair of jeans, with t shirts and half-buttoned cardigans on top.

Shannon late to this but catching up on posts:) i did smile when I read about you only having black shoes! That was me pre YLF lol. Love your posts and really admire your commitment to capture your outfits daily.

Shannon, just to echo what Krishnidoux said.. you are inspiring and I too often check out your wiw's. I had encouraging and insiteful replies to a YLF post yesterday and I hope that I can succesfully shake up my own style as well as you have whilst still being true to one's personality. Thanks Shannon.
