WIW: Attitude with Leather

This Attitude by Jay Manuel dress has been a workhorse for me for the past three years. I swear the CPW is so low now that the dress actually OWES me money!

Today's wearing of the dress includes dark purple tights to pull out the dark purple tones in the dress and my black leather blazer. I'm also wearing a wide purple belt to accentuate my waist and provide a mini-bookending to the tights. I'm wearing my knee high Blondo boots as I have a fair bit of running around to do today at the hospital and these are incredibly comfortable for me. For my handbag, I'm using my black croc patent one from yesterday.

What do you think? Sick of this dress yet? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Blazer: Danier Leather
Dress: Attitude by Jay Manuel
Tights: Hue
Boots: Blondo
Handbag: Danier Leather (thrifted)
Belt: thrifted

Oh, that's my favorite dress of yours, I love the tulip hem. This is a masterful styling. I love the pairing with all the 'tuff elements here. Awesome.

The blazer transforms it! Love it with the tall boots.

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

The blazer looks amazing with the dress Shannon! :-)

  • Sona replied 11 years ago

love the dress+blazer+boots. I'm not totally sure about the tights in the sense that I wish there was more of it showing but again that might just be the pics. The belt+tights for a mini bookend was a star move.

See, now, if that dress was hanging in my closet, I *may* --- and do note that I said 'may' --- get sick of it, eventually, after a few years. (I have closet boredom issues: apparently seeing it is as good as wearing it...)

On you? NEVER! You'll have worn it into the ground long before I'm sick of strong, simple, patterned perfection! (And I love it with that jacket and those boots for extra helpings of texture!)

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

    LOVE!!

Still haven't gone shopping for that Danier jacket and now it is going to have to wait untll after London. But how I enjoy seeing it on you!!

  • replied 11 years ago

I love that dress on you! Not sick of it at all. Seriously you have a large selection and I can hardly keep track of everything. (Like Manidipa thought, looking at something hanging in my closet is as good as wearing it and I sometimes get sick of my own things!)

I love the way the print hints at a floral in an abstract way. Love the way you brought out the purple with the tights. Gorgeous, woman!

Wonderful! I'll be posting an outfit today with a recently thrifted Gap leather blazer and now need to try it with a dress. Wardrobe hole! I've no sleeved dresses that aren't sweater dresses.
Like Sona, I'm not sure about the purple tights but they don't look bright and probably add just a hint of color with the belt.

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 11 years ago

I am another fan of the dress. I think the colors, fit, cut and pattern are lovely on you. I also really love the boots. My only suggestion would be to switch out the tights to black and mimic the purple with the bag. I like the tights but find with such a narrow piece showing, it seems just a touch out of place. A very minor tweek to a very lovely outfit.

I think this is the first time I've seen this dress on you - is it the sleeveless faux wrap with studded epaulets? If so, I almost bought the same one and now wish I had. Love it with the slivers of dark purple. The flat boots look great. You definitely look like a stylish lady with attitude. :)

I've said it before and I'll say it again - this leather blazer seems to take everything I pair it with up to another level. That's why it's my best buy of 2012!

Sona, Joy & Dianthus - I hear what you're saying about the purple tights but black just seemed too predictable for me this morning. Sadly, I don't have a purple handbag Dianthus - uh oh....would this be a wardrobe hole???

Claire - it's interesting you mention that I have a "large selection" because I don't consider my wardrobe large at all. Hmmm....I need to think about this...

Emily - yes, it is the sleeveless dress with the epaulets. I wear it as is or with a denim jacket and bare legs in the warm months and then with heavier toppers and tights in the cold months. It's one of my most versatile pieces.

  • Tricia replied 11 years ago

Really nice! I like it with the blazer.

  • Sara L. replied 11 years ago

I like the bit of muted purple tights showing. I usually wear my colored tights the same way. It adds an unexpected pop without being too loud or in your face. I'm wearing purple tights today but I think my outfit would probably qualify as a fail. My tights are much too bright. I need to get rid of them and look for a more muted shade.

    Blazer/dress/boots = TDF!

  • texstyle replied 11 years ago

Perfection again! This blazer is amazing on you and the outfit is really so fab - makes me want to wear a dress (and I never wear a dress).

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Fab! The dress reminds me of Anna's fireworks moto. Purple is your color, Shannon.

  • Tina.b replied 11 years ago

Shannon, this is my favourite outfit of yours to date! That jacket of course, that gorgeous dress. You just know exactly what looks great on you. I think you have a little bit of rocker chic in your style personna. Love it!

  • pil replied 11 years ago

So nice, Shannon, and that is one gorgeous blazer! I think the belt is what really pulls everything together for me.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Great dress, and I love all the different textures of the black items!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    Fab!

I like the deep purple tights too :)

How much money does your frock owe you?

  • Susie replied 11 years ago

Shannon, you look so great in the dress and blazer combo. And I love those boots- I think I've said that before!

I have a purple purse that I use a lot. It works really well with all my blacks and grays but it is such a deep shade that it adds a pop without being garish.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Thanks Tricia, Sara, MTB, Textstyle, and Pil!

Una - I always get compliments on my hair when I wear purple. I think it works with the salt-n-pepper. Note to self: buy more purple!

Tina - thank you very much! And yes, I do think I have a wee bit of rocker chick peeking out from time to time.

Rae - thanks for mentioning the textures of the black items. Texture is something I'm really into these days and I find I'm becoming much more tactile in my wardrobe choices - always touching everything.

Susie - are you trying to enable me to purchase a purple handbag? 'cause if you are, it doesn't take much to get me to buy a new purse - lol!

Angie - I'm thinking at a minimum, the dress now owes me enough for two large Starbucks!

  • Susie replied 11 years ago

I say skip the Starbucks, wear the dress a couple of more times, and use the savings to buy a new purse in a fun color!

How's that for girl math? :)

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 11 years ago

Shannon, please give Susie a wisdom point for that one. I love the logic.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

There you go. And a slice of pumpkin loaf.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

OMG Angie!!! Are you a pumpkin lover too? I love ALL things pumpkin flavoured and my favourite treat when the cool fall days arrive is to stop at the Starbuck's drive-through on the way to work and get a pumpkin spice latte and a pumpkin scone and have it when I get to work. Mmmmmmm....pumpkiny goodness....

Susie - now that's a math class I could get an A+ in! And Dianthus is so right - a major wisdom point for you!

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

Shannon: Late to the thread again. Sometimes, I don't know, WORK gets in the way!

Love this. You've managed a lot of leather without seeming like "a lot of leather." There is a good balance of richness and softness here, along with the bit of "rock 'n roll." This is not just pretty good, it's excellent.

P.S. Eggo is making a seasonal "Pumpkin Spice" Waffle. Toast it. Top it with whipped cream. But not for breakfast --- make it dessert!

  • shedev replied 11 years ago

Love this dress on you, not tired of it at all.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Beth Ann - you just totally made my day! Pumpkin spice waffle? Heavenly!

    Thanks shedev!

  • Thistle replied 11 years ago

Love this dress on you and purple is definitely your color. That jacket totally amps up the outfit, and this boots look very comfy.

Yup, purple bag is absolutely a wardrobe hole!

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

I can see why that jacket is a best buy. It looks fantastic & works with so many things. Purple is a signature colour for you imo - it works so well with your hair & skin.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

How did I miss this? I like the purple tights and everything else to (and including the) boot.

  • MNsara replied 11 years ago

Dont have time to read all the comments :-( but I must say how totally fabulous and sophisticated you look in this :-)

Love that leather and always love the combination of black with whites/greys.

    Nicely done, Shannon!!!

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

This is so sleek and stunning and sophisticated! I LOVE LOVE LOVE all the different textures of black you have going here with the boots and belt and bag and jacket.

Dress is a MVP for sure!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

This would have to be one of my favourite dresses of yours Shannon. I can't see myself getting tired of it any time soon. This is a fab combination. Great colours and textures. You look so stylish and modern.
