Fur vest - what's your opinion?

I had originally no intention of jumping on the fur vest bandwagon that started last year....but never say never...I have looked at this fur vest on the Gap website numerous times and honestly, it's the only one I've seen that appeals to me. It's on huge discount right now and I'm getting an itchy trigger finger. So I have two questions for you:

1) what do you think of this vest
2) could this work with my style

I think it's cool and could work with your style. The fit seems key (I have noticed that lots of these furry vests seem cut for a woman with a small-to-nonexistent bosom).

I love that vest. I need that vest. It could work great for you, I think.

What I like about it is that the shoulder are cut in. A lot of fur vests are cut square all around; you end up with this big-shouldered caveman look.

Ooh! I like it! It's the first furry vest I've actually liked!

As a fun trendy piece for one season, it's worth a try, Shannon. If you need to save your pennies for something more practical, probably not.

That's what I like about it too Rachylou - I have very narrow shoulders and I had tried a few on when they were first all the rage but they were just too wide in the shoulders and boxy on me. This almost has more of a feminine shape.

Jonesy - I agree about the fit. Luckily a huge bosom isn't one of my problems!

Suz - me too! I am still looking for the right black slim trousers (have the Gap real skinny black ones on their way to me as we speak) but other than that, no practical needs left. I can't believe I've got a pretty well rounded fall wardrobe!

I love the idea of this vest over my white or purple button down shirt with black slim trousers; with jeans and a long sleeved tee; over one of my frocks with boots. I think I can see it working....

I like that one, particularly the shape and length. You sold me with your styling ideas so I think you should give it a try!

UPDATE: I did it - pulled the trigger. Ordered two sizes as returns to our local Gap are easy peasy. If I don't like it or it doesn't fit right, no problem to return.

Won't my kitty cats love it???

    Thanks ladies!

Awesome! Plus it's real shearling, so it won't look as ratty as fast.

I am not sold on this particular fashion trend...

I look forward to your photos changing my mind!

Post some photos when you get it!

I like it and I like that it's real. The US gap doesn't carry this item btw

    LOVE IT!

I think it looks fabulous! I've been collecting ideas on how to wear mine, so I can't wait to see how you wear yours!

  • cciele replied 11 years ago

That is an awesome fur vest! So glad you went for it and hope it works out.

Very cute, great price, with skinny jeans, high boots and a long shirt underneath, perfect

I have a grey fur vest very similar to this that I bought a few years ago, and have been wearing it again all week! (Today: white skinnies, blue chambray shirt, faux fur vest, cream snakeskin booties and neon clutch).

These pics might refresh your memory.

Glad that you are going for it, Shannon :)

Angie - why do you torment me so with descriptions of your gorgeous outfits with no picture??? (lol)

Both of your outfits here illustrate to me the versatility of a fur vest - thank you!

  • pil replied 11 years ago

That vest is spiffy, I'm looking forward to seeing pics of you wearing it.

  • Freckles replied 11 years ago

Can't wait to see how you rock it Shannon. What a great price and nice cut.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Shannon looking forward to seeing this on you. I still love my fur vest:) What I like about this one is the shape and the back part not being furry to I think it will eliminate bulk. Hope it arrives quickly.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

I am interested to see how you style this! I would have been the naysayer - I just can't picture it on ladylike and retro you. But take that with a grain of salt, because this look screams 70s bohemian Kate Moss psychedelia to me. One trend I never fully understood.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

I hear you Rae - I'll be interested to see if I can pull it off!

  • Carole replied 11 years ago

That's one of the more flattering versions I've seen...I was wondering if they were still trending but obviously they are. Go for it!

  • Kari replied 11 years ago

I thought of Angie's vest right away when I saw the shape of this one too. I like it, Shannon - I hope that it works out for you!

Conservative me has not been able to wrap her head around fur vests. On anybody, any style. They still look like a costume to me, not real clothing.

Which says more about my conservatism than the clothing. I won't judge anyone for wearing them (there is a legitimate place for judging in life, but style issues is not that place) but I can't imagine me ever getting one.

But please do have fun with yours.

I think you will love it! I wore mine all the time last year and can't wait to bring it out again this year!
